Welcome to the first episode of Journey to Cyclist! 🚴‍♂️
In this ride, I take on a 75km training session through the Netherlands, facing one of the biggest challenges here — the Dutch wind 🌬️.

As a dad and full-time software engineer, I’m documenting my journey to becoming a better cyclist while balancing family, work, and training. If you’re just starting out, or simply enjoy watching cycling adventures through the Netherlands’ beautiful landscapes, you’re in the right place!

[Music] [Applause] 75 kilometers for today. Pretty excited for this training session. It’s uh 6:40 in the morning now. I’ll be preparing my breakfast, get ready and plan to leave home around 9:00 a.m. So, I’m really looking forward to this this little ride because I was planning to do that on Friday. Had to change plans because of the weather. It was very windy, rainy, and I really don’t like changing plans, but it’s part of life. is dead or doing it indoors which is also fine but I rather exploring the nice landscapes and also this course goes a part of this course at least goes close to the beach so it’s a very nice landscape it’s going to be sunny in the yeah at the start of the the ride at least so I’m pretty looking forward to that I think it’s going to be nice to take my 360 camera’s wall with me and film some nice landscapes to share. I hope you enjoy. [Music] looking good. [Music] Hello everybody. My name is Philippe. I’m a father, a husband, a full-time software engineer trying to becoming better on cycling. It’s Sunday 9:00 a.m. I managed to leave the apartment before my son and wife wake up, which is good. I’ve always been active since I was 14. Started doing some sports and recently more doing CrossFit and weightlifting. And two months ago, I decided to start on this journey to becoming a cyclist. And I found on this channel a very good motivation to keep myself accountable, share a little bit of my experience and some insights on how I keep myself active while balancing a very busy life. I headed to the start of the course now. It’s going to be close to the beach and we are going to pass a very nice park called Hugs Boss. It’s a green area, very beautiful. You can see some of the stats of the ride. Uh they are not impressive numbers, but I know you like numbers, so I added for the full course. You can see the speed, the RPM, and the power. Also, my heart rate. It’s going to go up very quickly, but at this moment, I’m still feeling fresh. It’s quite windy. As you can hear, there’s a lot of wind noise. That adds an extra challenge to the ride, but also makes it more interesting. I’m not used to such a long distance. 75 kilometers is still the longest ride I have ever done outdoors. The longest distance I have done indoors was 80 kilometers. It was already miserable. I had this little encounter at the beginning of the ride. Next day will be a holiday here in the Netherlands called Princess D. And the police was doing some training I guess for the next day. We just found it cool to share it here. That’s the point where the ride really starts. I’ll get humble in the first seconds of the ride by this guy that’s going to pass by. I have never seen him again, but it’s okay. He’s too fast. I’ll get there eventually. The landscape’s going to get nice now. I hope you enjoy the view. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] I still get amazed by how good the roads are, how good the cycleways are as well. Here in the Netherlands, most of the cars will be on cycle way, away from cars, away from danger. So for us cyclists is quite nice. You can just cycle without worry about being hit by a car. That’s already great. We are 17 km in still feeling fresh. You can see keeping 30 km per hour quite good as well. Cadence 84. This part of the road is quite nice. On the right side, there’s the ocean. The day is great. I’m feeling good. I’m feeling grateful for being here, for being able to push myself on this kind of workout. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Short balls. is here for me being humbled again at 35 km per hour by another guy and yet another time I have never seen him again but that’s Okay. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. N. [Music] Hey, [Music] hey, hey. [Music] Almost halfway there. 32 kilometers. The legs still feel fresh. Although the wind is hitting hard. The heart rate is steady. 153. So, feeling good. This place is quite nice. It’s a green area. One of my favorite spots of this course. I have done this course before once only and I fell two times. At this ride, I didn’t fall, which is already very good. And yeah, the last time was really traumatizing because a guy on the cycle didn’t see me passing and he came to the left and I fell. that hurt more for the bike than for the scratches I got on my legs. The bike was pretty new. Was one of my first rides with the bike and I already got the first scratches on the frame. And I know that everybody goes through this moment, the first scratch. It took me a few days to recover from it, but now I’m fine finally. But I’m happy I didn’t fall this time. At this point, I got around 5 kilometers like that perfect road and I enjoyed this time to sprint a little bit. Although the headwind was holding me back, I could put some power as you can see. 335. Yeah, some cars. This road is shared by bikes and cars. At this moment, I’m fighting the headwind and trying to sprint. As you can see, the power goes high and also my heart rate is already 161. We finally got to my favorite place. Sun is shining, the sky is blue, the green is very vivid around me. I’m just feeling great. Enjoy this moment with me. Long time long. Ooh. Ooh. Just [Music] long time long. [Music] Ooh. [Music] Ooh. [Music] Ooh. Long P long rock long. Final stretch here. Last kilometers to go. Id like to thank you for watching.
