Renault has once again proven its ability to blend practicality with style by introducing a new twist on its retro-inspired electric crossover. The Renault 4 E-Tech, already a fan favorite for its nostalgic design and modern EV credentials, is now available in two special work-focused versions for the French market: the Societe Reversible and the Societe Van. What makes these models stand out is their ability to serve as light commercial vehicles while keeping the look and usability of the standard passenger car.

Unlike traditional vans, the new Societe variants retain the rear glass windows of the regular passenger version, avoiding the plain panel design commonly associated with utility vehicles. This approach keeps costs down and maintains the stylish look of the 4 E-Tech, but it also strays from the boxier van-inspired design teased by Renault back in 2021. That earlier concept drew inspiration from the classic Renault 4 Fourgonnette, a legend in its own right. While the current versions don’t adopt that full retro van look, they balance affordability with functionality—ideal for businesses that need capability without sacrificing image.

Step inside, and the cabin tells a different story from the passenger model. Renault has reworked the interior to serve professionals who rely on a practical work vehicle. The rear seats have been replaced by a molded cargo tray lined with an anti-slip mat, complete with tie-down hooks and a solid partition separating the front passengers from the cargo bay. The result is a cargo volume of 1,045 liters , supported by a hidden compartment offering an additional 55 liters under the floor. The usable loading length reaches 1.20 meters , while the payload capacity tops out at 345 kilograms —more than enough for deliveries, tools, or business supplies.

These conversions are carried out at Renault’s Ampere Manufacture in Maubeuge, France, by a company called Qstomize. Depending on the chosen version, classification changes: the Societe Reversible is categorized as a passenger vehicle, while the Societe Van is an official light commercial vehicle. The latter qualifies for tax advantages but is subject to speed restrictions in France. Renault expects interest from tradespeople, delivery services, concierge companies, rental businesses, and professional fleets.

Performance remains identical to the standard passenger 4 E-Tech. A 148-horsepower electric motor drives the car, paired with a 52 kWh battery offering up to 409 kilometers of range on the WLTP cycle. Charging is flexible, with 15 to 80 percent battery replenishment in just over three hours on an 11 kW AC charger, or a rapid 30 minutes when connected to a 100 kW DC fast charger.

In terms of pricing, the Renault 4 E-Tech Societe starts at €29,300 for the Evolution trim and €30,900 for the Techno, excluding VAT. Buyers in France can take advantage of government incentives up to €5,060 depending on the configuration and customer type, making the model even more attractive for small businesses.

Of course, optional extras add flexibility but also raise the price. Renault charges between €167 and €917 for exterior colors, €167 for roof rails, and €333 for all-weather tires with snow and off-road modes. More premium touches, like a hands-free tailgate, driver-assist systems, or a Harman Kardon nine-speaker audio system , make the van feel closer to a luxury EV than a basic workhorse.
