Back in the 1970s, when I was learning to drive in a 1965 Triumph Herald 1200, we sometimes used to go around the back lanes of South Northumberland. One place I used to enjoy was crossing a little hump-backed bridge near a place by the name of Make Me Rich. It was a narrow bridge and the top of the hump was scarred by contact with the underside of many vehicles. I always thought you might get a car stuck there if you tried crossing it too slowly. I haven’t been down that way since the early 1990s and have been trying to fit in a little run on that route all summer. I only found out recently that it was called Bellasis Bridge. Today, I hadn’t really planned going that way because my backache is playing up something rotten but it just happened. Look out for a courteous quartet of cyclists.

We enjoyed the sunshine after yesterday’s rain but it was breezy and the temperature was an autumnal 7C. An intermittent “crackling” on sound seems to be a combination of wind noise and the rustling of my jacket very close to the microphone.

My ride was 22 miles but, in an effort to reduce the length and provide a coherent video without too much repetition of the same old places, I’ve abridged (sorry) the video to start and end near Cramlington railway station. The whole thing has been shortened from almost 52 minutes to about 32 minutes.

We pass by Northumberlandia, Blagdon Estate and the Milkhope Centre, before turning onto Green Lane, Bellasis Bridge then on to Stannington (a Visual Reference Point for Newcastle Airport controlled airspace) and Hartford Bridge.

Yeah nice day for it William, surprisingly little traffic going your way, love those old back lanes, we don't have so many over here , That Indian restaurant sounds good also, thats another thing thats rather rare over here, you can get it of course, but its not readily available as it is in England 😅
