THE ROUTE : https://ridewithgps.com/trips/314376478

Final day of the cruise, and I got… a city bike. Heavy, clunky, complete with a basket and a stand — basically a tank on two wheels. 😬

Despite the ridiculous ride, I managed 80 km (around 50 miles) including some hills, stopping in the hills of Alaró for a quick refreshment before heading back.

Another day, another gamble at a bike shop: will it ride or will it fight back? Either way, it was hilarious chaos.

[Music] Well, folks, you might guess from the palm trees, I’m in somewhere nice and warm. And that somewhere nice and warm is Maka. I’ve just arrived from my final day of the Norwegian cruise. I’m here in Palmer for a few hours. Different kind of a bike today. Do you want to see it? [Music] Yeah. Didn’t organize anything super early on this one. Just turned up. found across his bike shop and went with this. [Music] It’s my first time to Moroka, don’t lie. Second time I came when I was like 17 or something like that, maybe a little bit older. Unloaded route. It’s 66 km. I don’t think there’s that much climbing it. But whether that’s still alive at the end of uh at the end of the ride on this bike of all things, I will, you know, I’ll tell you’ll see me at the end. What can I tell you about it? It’s got seven gears, got a basket on the front. It’s got a bell. There’s not to like. So, it looks like I’m heading towards the airport at the moment. Oh, and the path just suddenly stops. It’s been all cycle path so far. It’s been fantastic. Tell you, the weather is stunning, isn’t it? That cloud in the sky. I bet you expecting a Sakalabra stroke lighthouse video when you saw the thumbnail on this one. It could be further from the truth. So, let’s take a look at this beauty together. Oh, and a beauty it most certainly is. See what I can distinguish from here. So, it says Ergote Tech 2 on the center on the dropper post. Oh, drop post seat post even. Can’t see any distinguishing markings apart from it’s a bicycle tours. Palmo tours. Uh tires. I also got some double fighter 2.0 from Continental. did buy some of these when I first got into cycling maybe well 10 years ago now. It’s got one on the rear. Front is something completely different. Nimbus 650B 2.3. Probably completely bombroof. On the back we’ve got Let’s have a look. One, two, three, four, five, six. Well, seven gears, which makes sense really. There’s seven up here. A nice bell basket. I got a deer today. Just water bowl. Couple of snacks. I’ve got my coast drawer as well just to back up with me phone. Come on. What’s about? Flat pedals of course. What a beast. And I think we’re going to be taking up into some hills. If we grab my phone, take a look at the route. So, I say I’ve just downloaded this off ride with GPS. So, if we get to the elevation button, we can see we’re going as to the DC heights of 200 m. So, there’s nothing ordinary on a road bike, you won’t be able to uh handle. But yeah, can I show the gradients on this? I’m not sure I can show the gradients on this app, but yeah, we’ll get going anyway. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, cycle lanes are absolutely amazing. It’s a travesty to be riding this bike on them. Look at those tires. 2.3 in gigantic. Absolutely huge. Not the most scenic bike path I’m following at the moment, but alas, I’m riding my bike. I tell you what, this bike’s great on the flat, but soon as Subaru starts to go up a little bit, it’s like riding a beeping tank. I tell you, wasn’t pleasant at all. I mean, now mountain climbs today. Apart from that, it’s been really pleasant. Some beautiful mountains up ahead, but not on this trusty bike. In fact, I don’t know why I called it trusty. I should have gone for the ebike option. I don’t ask how much it costs. It’s always seems to be double. This was £14 for the day. £1414. Bargain. Anything for a bargain. Tell you, I’ve been riding around this. I’ve been jealous of people. All the road bikes and things. Plenty of people on road bikes. Suitable bikes. Suitable bikes. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] So, I’ve done 40k up to this point. So, 38 to go. Ride with GPS estimates about 2 hours and 40 minutes left to ride. It sounds about right for riding a brick. Very pretty ahead, but very mountainous. I don’t know. It’s just a bit of a slow crawl up towards it. I say I’m only going to go about 300 m. So, it can’t be that high up anyway. These mountains head well mountains that hundreds and hundreds of meters. Not going anywhere near the tops at all. Well, first climb of day, 1.8 km, 5.7 average. And I can barely ride it if I’m filming at the same time. Gosh, bit. It’s like riding a tank. I’m glad it literally is, you know, one of two tank climbs, I think, and it fell back downhill towards coast. But it is absolutely stunning up here. Beautiful. [Music] It’s going to be well fought. Well fought indeed. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] You got [Music] me [Music] shoo. [Music] Oh yeah, the slightest bit of a climb. I’m out the saddle. It’s a stop to the last little village whose name I should pop on the screen. There was a spa there. So, it’s time to grab a juice and a sugary donut. So, I think that’s pretty much all the climbing done. Heading back towards Palmer now and the coast. So, not masses of uh distance or elevation today. Just getting out on the bike. Just me and the basket and a pack of Ruffles crisps. Heat [Music] up here. Oh my god. [Music] [Music] These roads to ride are absolutely perfect. Not seen many potholes to be honest, just on the uh more quieter roads. And even then, not that bad. So, we’re heading back towards coast now to a bit of a headwind. Another ride is coming to a close. Another holiday is coming to close. So, tomorrow early tomorrow morning, catching the plane back to the UK. Back to the UK weather, back to bike packing adventures in the UK for a few weeks before returning to southern Spain at the end of August. All right, battling down. Let’s get to the coast. Let’s get to that sea. Let’s get some sea air in the lungs. Making my way through the city of Palmer. Not easy when you uh every juncture you just growing for your phone cuz oh no mounts for a garment or phone. You think it’s just been reaching your back pocket the entire time. Such a pain in the backside that is. Anyway, I’m just now following this uh river on my left all the way to the sea. And from there should be the spot the bike shop. There’s sightseeing on the way back. There was a couple films, wasn’t there? Was this castle and then there was a cathedral I passed earlier. So, let’s go and see that. That’s cathedral building. It’s just a little bit further around to the left, I think. So, I’m just going to trot around to the left. [Music] Where is it? It’s just just here somewhere. Car. Ah, yeah. There we go. Those red bikes are too many people giving bikes back and things. So, I’ve uh just given mine back and uh do recommend it if you want a city bike. You’re the probably person watching this channel thinking don’t want to see a bike. What are you doing on a city bike? Well, you know it it serves a purpose. It’s very short visit. Managed to see Morca. However, of course, on a different visit, if I go to Sakal Arbor Lighthouse, is that same place? I don’t know. I’d of course use a road bike, that’s for sure. And uh who knows, maybe return to Morca in a year or two, plans for next year, who knows? Right, I’m going to leave the video right here. I’ve got a favorite to catch. Comments, questions, stick them down below. And I’ll see you in the next bike packing adventure. See you. You got to shoo. [Music]
