Bikepacking France from the Channel to the Med – Day 8 Provence via Pont du Gard and Les Alpilles

Day 8 of 9, covering more than 800 miles of bikepacking from the English Channel at Caen to Toulon on the Mediterranean sea in summer 2025. After dropping off the Causses de Cevennes in the Massif Central on day 7, we cross the departement du Gard to the sometimes deafening noise of the cicadas as the heat of Provence beats down. Leaving the beautiful Uzes past the Haribo factory, we cross the Roman Pont du Gard aqueduct before picking up a flat voie verte all the way to Arles where we cross the mighty Rhone. We then head through Les Alpilles past stunning homes and the vast expanse of olive groves before a lovely descent after Salon-du-Provence and hitting Aix-en-Provence for our final overnight stop ahead of hitting the Med on day 9 at Bandol and on to Toulon.
