After such good weather this year it was looking like our luck had run out. Storm Amy was fast approaching bringing strong winds and heavy rain. With this stage clocking in at 26 miles we decided to split it over 2 days, staying at the village of Dent. After entering Cumbria we are now on the fringes of The Lake District and withing 25 miles of our finish line.
You as well. You going to buy buy a mug? Get that one. So, as you can see, we haven’t got the weather we’ve usually got. It’s been really sunny for quite a few outings and uh you were hoping that this doesn’t last very long. And welcome back to Ribble Head. I’m going to get a much better view of the vibe up this time. Just going to make sure I’ve locked me car. So, we’ve we went in the station and asked if didn’t mind parking parking the car there while we did our walk. And they were very accommodating, weren’t the car? They were indeed. They even forgot to charge us for the tea, which we just had to go back in and pay for. No, we did ask for coffee. We did. Yeah. Well, okay. We did. Yeah. Right. Ask for coffee. We’re just skirting round Wside which is looking bleak as hell at the minute and uh down into Dentale and we’re stopping there tonight. Silly old. This was Yeah. Well, I’ll tell you what, we’ve been so lucky recently. It’s incredible that we’ve actually got rain. We have been so so lucky with the weather. I just can’t believe we’ve got rain. So yeah, you missed out on this this pub last time, mate, cuz it was it was a lovely pond of shandi in there. Oh, it was that guy. Might be. Yeah, we got we don’t die early on. I think we can go through here. Nobody in the beer garden today, mate. No, I’m not surprised. But it’s not cold. There it is then, boys. What do you think, Lee? Yeah, I’ve seen better. I’ve seen better. I have seen better. It’s quite It’s quite a nice one. You don’t get that in an You don’t get Hey, we can see Ingleber deliver. There’s ice creams over there if you want ice cream. Well, they’ve left the gate open. I’ll be honest with you. I wasn’t expecting that. That’s That’s disgrace. Oh, he’s gone through the big gate. You can’t do that. I’m the big boy. Wow. So, yeah, the one we’re the one we’re going on is in Cloud. The other two are in sunshine. You got to stop finishing. Right. So, as we uh our task tonight then is about seven miles from here to Dent. We’re going to spend the night and carry on tomorrow to Kendall, which is about I’m not going to hurt you. I’m not going to hurt you. Karm, which is about 18 mile tomorrow. Yeah. So, yeah, we’re hoping we keep as dry as possible today. And tomorrow, whatever happens happens. So much for it shouldn’t rain. Well, today today was sort of on and off. Yeah, there’s a man in the window. Look. What is he doing? Is he doing his exercises? I think he is. Yes. Is it the blear station man? He’s doing his exercises. Front. Oh, very nicely done. Yes. So the sun’s shining. Alternate route to bridge. Follow way marks permissive path. Um yeah, let’s do that. That looks a bit wet, doesn’t it? Down there. Yeah. So this definitely through the nice clean river was better than the muddy way we came. It cuts straight underneath the Yeah, it’s straight through the mountain then, isn’t it? Yeah. That’s mad. That is like a river going above it. What’s that? An aqueduct. Ducks everywhere. Tear ducks. Are you three peers? On to your swim. Has lot stopped you before. It’s against the law. It’s against the law. You can have a way if you want. Okay. So, we’re almost at the top of the pass on the uh northern shoulder of Great Wide. So, over that way there is Ingleboroough and in the distance just there is Penny Gent. And that up there is Great W side, which we won’t be summiting today. So, we’re going to carry on. Just going to check the map up here. Whether we’re through the gate or just carrying straight on. What madness is this? The sun literally came out. It’s like hammering it down. It’s been so long. since I’ve had proper mountain weather. Forgot what it’s like. Come on, Carl. There you go. Through the bushes. Yeah, it’s a bit better. That looked a bit uh deep just there. Great Wald restricted open access land. Come on, bush man. Oh, the rainbow. [Music] Blow me away like that. That’s bloody lovely. That is. So, this has to be closed. Uh, oh, yeah. I didn’t open it, but Oh, that’s nice. Just to meet the top of the pass almost. I think it looks a bit wider now. Thank [ __ ] that was horrible. So, I’m pretty sure down there we’ve got Dent Station around that area. So, that’s where we got to catch it from Well, that’s No, we’re not going there. Um Oh, no. No. Yeah, we’re going to the town which is down the end of Dentale. Was there uh I think so those hills in the distance are above SBA I believe. That was bleep though. Yeah, that was actually. Yeah, that is not as bad as it Oh, hang on. That’s saying go that way. Oh no, we’re going the wrong way. This one says go this way. He don’t want us to go over there. I’m still curious what that boat off the side. Um I don’t know. So, this has been really pleasant to be fair. And the valley floor isn’t that far below us. We’re just about to join up with an old friend, Penine Journey, and that’s coming in from that way. Oh, and they sort of merge then we’ve been on that a few times over this uh adventure. Well, that’s a view. We just come over the brow of the hill and there’s Dent. It is. Wow. We’re nearly there. Look just beyond it. Let’s hope that’s not like that’s going north. That’s not coming this way. That’s probably one of the best views I’ve ever seen, especially with the clouds. We’ve reached the valley floor. Now, we just got to go and find the uh the church and then our place is next door. Hello, mate. No parking. No, no parking. Our first buildings should get dark. We’re going down the muddy trail. Nice little riverside walk to the church. One mile, I think it says. Oh, very good. So, the final leg of day one of stage 13, I think this is. So it’ll be one stage over two days and we’re almost the end of stage one which is about seven mile and we’re going to do the other 18 tomorrow. We’ve done it in roughly I think just over 2 hours. I’m really pleased with that. Some good pace. It’s bloody lovely, isn’t it? I think we have a good evening here. [Music] Okay, so uh that is the end of day one or the end of the walking for day one. We’ve still got some plans. That is the end of the walking. We’ve come over those mand over there and we’re just coming up on the village of Dent. And this will be our last one. Oh, there’s a heron just casually flying off. It’s pretty cool. Okay, so we’ve checked into our bed and breakfast. What a stunning village this is. Yeah, that’s where we’re staying. It was 110. That’s my room right there. That’s Le’s room. And look what it’s looking at. was 110 each for the night which is obviously but to be fair what you’re getting it’s it’s it’s luxury is it and that shower is amazing. It’s worth it just for the shower. Yeah. So yeah definitely if you’re in this area definitely um you could do it off you could do a lot worse than in here. It’s absolutely beautiful. Yeah. And uh yeah that obviously the yeah 10 includes breakfast as well, doesn’t it? So good selection of breakfast as well. Yeah. So we’re going to have a walk in this village in a minute. I won’t film anything in the village just yet cuz it’s unbelievable. So, I want Carl to be with us. Oh, wow. So, this is uh I’ve never even heard of this place before. I was um mapping out the walk. Is that tractor coming back? Yeah. No, we’re not. We were dive in the pub. Oh, is that what it was? Did you notice it? No. Oh, there you go. I just read the name. I didn’t read the actual So, the first one we got when it was packed, but it was really nice beer. Very, very friendly. But you know, we haven’t seen it. Cause from Jamaica. Kingston cider. There you go. Brekie, what do you reckon, mate? That’s all right, isn’t it? It’s a massive sausage. I was impressed with the size of my sausage, mate. Hey, look at us all taking photos of a dinner. I just skirt on. I think what we’re about to about to head off through the village. Day two. Okay. So, through here in the light. Yeah. Just coming back from the pub last night, it really just did not seem real. Sherlock Holmes camp. So yeah, we’ve uh we have entered Cumbria, but we are still in the Yorkshire Dales if it’s not confusing enough for you. Yeah, campsite. The bed and breakfast is just up there. I think that’s open as well. We are dry. Here we are. So wet. I guess I do the filming now while we are dry and then when it gets pissing down, stop. ups the steps. Oh god, you’re going to get through here after that brekie. Yeah, it’s all right. We went to it before we came out. So did not together. And down we go again. Oh, yes. There you go, Carl. You do like a boine. Oh no, it’s muddy. Uh-oh. Could this be the beginning of the end of our intrepid explorers? Probably. Tune in next week with Inspector Gadget. Well, anyone who’s been to the Lake District will know that that looks more a lot more like the Lake District than the fells that we’ve been going past for about two or three walks now. We’re just about still in the dales. I’m getting first root vibes again. I’m getting the word wat. Swat. That’s the word I’m getting. Feet are still dry. It was a bit deeper than it looked really. They did. Okay, we’re on the final mile or so to Sed now. Got to cross the river. Hopefully, it’s not too bad down here. Yeah, this is a bit drier. A bit stuck in here. Yeah, let’s uh Oh, yes. Well, that was a rather soggy section, wasn’t it? That was a rather soggy section. Just a little bit. My boots have just started to not like feel like I had loads of water in like ah you’ve had too much water, mate. Yeah. How’s it? Well, I’ve got wet feet now. Yeah, it was it was just easier to walk. Yeah, I said by the end of it, I just given up cuz I was getting soaked anyway. At least we’re boots. Yeah. I think we’re uh pretty much at the high point for today of about 300 m the valley. Well, the weather’s fine. It was just a foot path was a river. Yes. On the plus side, we got clean boots. Yeah, they are very clean. Yeah. over the style far away. Chubby chubby is coming out today. Raising style. Your excuse. Okay, then we’re heading off down into Sedba. That’s the first leg of this day done. Nice. Was there last time? I never been here once before. the chapel back. Yeah. All holiday cottages, aren’t they? Got to be. There it is. Yeah, that’s that is that is actual SBA now. Oh, and yeah, we’ve got humans again. Things that come with 1525. Wow. This is old school. This pub is bloody lovely. It is really nice. This is had me first pint in a pub after co this is a bloody. It’s a phone box here. Tell look. It’s locked. It is locked, isn’t it? It’s got the key. It’s actually got a telephone in it. That’s why it’s locked. Piece of history right there. Hello, Boines. You’re waiting for Carl, aren’t you? Yeah. Grandmaster Carl flapping around somewhere. Move. You’re covered in [ __ ] mate. So, I’m not going to pet you. Hello. Heads are massive, aren’t they? Yeah. Yeah. So, there’s the howgill fells up on our right. In front of us is towards the M6. And you can just see it there. Look. Oh, with a lorry on it. Yeah. In a moment, we’ve got to take a left. If there’s somewhere to take a left. Yeah. Oh, yeah. It’s going around the bed to the left. Right. All right. So, we’re going to go back and join the Dale’s Way now over this questionable style. Oh, that’s a bit loose. Good. That’ be a good game, wouldn’t it? You get him to pull that around the around the field while you’re trying to score. Some [ __ ] Anything will do. Hey, there he goes. He’s off. We’re just joining back up. This ain’t the Beck just yet. Cuz Whoa. Pretty cool though. gorge. Okay, then. So, we’re back on the Dale’s Way. We follow this all the way now. Around 10 miles of it. Oh, snake. That was an interesting bit. broke up the walk a bit, didn’t it? So, uh we’re hoping to get as far as we can before Storm Amy makes an appearance. At the moment, it’s really muggy and close. You can just feel that something’s coming. I think we’ve got about 2 and a half hours until that starts. So, we’re hoping to at least make it across the M6 before then. We’re going well. That’s such a heavy backpack which I didn’t believe you need but I’ll be glad of it later when I’ve got a change of clothes. Up there is the the howgill fells. I think that’s car is the big one over there. I’m just heading through endless fields at the moment. There we go. Cheers, mate. That one’s a bit springloaded, isn’t it? And then this way. Bloody hell. This is a This has become more challenging, isn’t it? They do like a challenge. We do. It’s definitely making it go quicker. It’s bit barbed. Oh, we got to go down here. We got to go this way. Jesus, look at that. Oh, there’s a post gone down there. Don’t think it was intentional. He’s not trying to kill kill walkers. Yeah. Yeah. Along the D. Well, that’s going to get someone a Yeah, it’s raising. That is a It’s beautiful. Being alive is awesome, isn’t it? Not that bit in the middle. I would maybe the current would allow you. I think you’d be all right. Just about be all right waiting for him. Okay, then we’re just approaching Beckoot, the vioaduct and the the motorway beyond. This is houses. We not haven’t had a coffee since breakfast, have we? No. Yeah. Some caffeine and a good roll about now. Over the bridge. I think anyway. [Applause] Oh, the children around here aren’t very fast. They don’t. Dead slow. We have a little bit of a hill to go up. Yeah, just a little bit. We can do it. There’s a tuck shop up here. Just think about that. I’m thinking of that porcelain bowl I’m going to ruin when I get there. You ruin everything you do, including your video. There’s the viuct back at V. Yeah, this one’s a bit nicer than it’s not quite as grandiose. So, as you can probably see over there, there’s a sign there for the Yorkshire Dales, which means we’ve now left the national park. And we’re in Bandit Country. Bandit Country. That’s it, mate. We’re no more national park now until we get to until next time. Woo! Oh, post office. It is old. Bloody hell, it’s Yeah, it’s old. It’s not there anymore. Ye oldie post office. Ye oldie. Oh, feel. So, I tell you what, that rest did me did me a lot of good to be fair. Well, there’s officially no coffee at Beckoot, but well, then again, there was houses there. I’m sure somebody had coffee, but we don’t want to be rude. So, we’re making our way up to what will be our final motorway crossing. What are you? Tell you what, that that opened up at the right time, didn’t it? Yeah. Rubicon. What’s that thing there? Uh, oh yeah, I’m having that. What are you having, Carl? Oh, seven. Yeah. Pound each. Ain’t bad, is it? Actually, right. Dale’s way then across the M6. back here. There’s a bridge. Oh, I’m I’m hoping there’s a bridge. If I don’t, we’ll fancy it. Definitely. Yeah, definitely hoping for a bridge. In the distance over there, we can see some of the lower files of the Lake District. Oh, there is a bridge. I was getting a little concerned for a minute. We wanted to dodge traffic. You know what? If it was not day, it was not day. I’d dodge the traffic anyway. Over. Well, isn’t this an ugly bit of architecture? Where does this mean? We’re not supposed to go over it. Yeah. At least it’s not as far to fall as the last bridge. Slow down. 50 mph. Slow down. sludgy was he? Yeah, that’s the hole then it pass stalking me. Oh boy. Ah, we’re on the bloody tarmac. Well, concrete, rather. Either way, it’s solid. Solid ground. Sure you get to them. Oh, well, it’s okay. It’s okay. Yeah. Pallets. Look. Leave them alone, Carl. Yeah. Leave them alone, Carl. You got to that point. No. Red Bull, mates. Leave a [ __ ] It’d be nice to do a walk. We ain’t got to fit, would it? I think we just watch just sort of happens though. Yeah, I think the fact that we’re being chased by the weather probably splurging as well. Okay, we did about six mile then. Let’s see if we can get through it. And still no rain. Still no cafe. Still no rain. Still no cafe either. But but more importantly, the rain has stayed away there. It doesn’t mean we’re not wet, though, does it? Very cool. What’s coming for us? A surprise. Surprise. Oh, there’s doggies. I’m glad you got that. I usually am. Wow, that’s a view. That’s a lovely view. Yeah, it looks like we’re going through that way. Oh, we’re we’re closing in on Patton Bridge, which did not say that was the last place before we get there. I think it is. So, please just just coffee. Even Burnside is not going to be coffee, is it? No, it’s not been our day, has it? It’s not been our day for coffee cuz a lot of it’s Kent Mia. A lot of it to Kent Mir is on road and then we’re on um gates a path I’ve done before and I know it’s gravel. Yeah, if it’s dry you I mean the first bit will be on the last bit of this sort of track. So if it’s dry possibly. Yeah. There’s a [ __ ] chicken there. A wild chicken. It’s not part of bridge. It’s chicken bridge. Showing us the way. It’s the golden chicken of saviors. Which way is it? Chicken. Where are you going? Come on, KFC. Show us the way. Where you going? What’s going on? Going through somebody’s garden again. They don’t mind. No, I don’t think they’ve got a sign in it. I think they have to. It’s a recognized path. They have to maintain it as well. Yeah. That’s been used for a while, does it? Well, you can tell we’re approaching the Lake District. It’s a black moss tarn. This is the top of the hill. I’m sure of it. All downhill after that. How many times you said that now? We have civilization. I think it’s We’re hoping it’s burnside. Please, please be burnside. Right. All right, so we just got to cross the A6 and then it’s a straight shot down into Burnside. But this last bit is really killing us. So I haven’t done too much to the camera, but uh we’re getting on with it and it’s looking good. I think we’re looking to get into Burnside about about half three, I would say. Our last major road before Burnside see a proper road. It is Oh, we can see Burnside. It’s just down there about a mile and a half away. We’re still not getting rained on. That’s a miracle. Right. This that gate’s heavy. Um yeah, this is the last obstacle. Motional. Oh, hang on. There’s one more field. I think it’s only a little one. Yeah, I can see road signs. Hey, we’ve made it. I feel fresh as a daisy now as well. Yeah, I’m not going that way. That looks muddy. Okay, that’s the uh that is the end of stage 12, which was a two-day affair. We’re now looking for the pub, which could be around there. Is it? It’s here somewhere. I’ve seen it on the map. Don’t really know what to say about that. It was tough. That one was, was it? There was sort of villages on the way through, weren’t there? But there just nothing of anything. Nothing there. Paul, he had to replenish his Red Bull suppor lasted two minutes. And I’ve got two for We now only got a three-hour train journey. That is a nice looking. Oh, he likes that one. Same with a bird on top. We’ve only got a three-hour journey now back to To be honest, the journey is not 3 hours, is it? A lot of it’s the waiting time at platforms. So, hopefully we can uh hopefully it all goes well. Right, I’ll see you next time when we’ll be doing from Burnside to Ambleside and then we’ll be within striking distance at the end. Bye bye. Bye-bye, Lee. Bye-bye, Lee. See you.
