📆 August 28, 2025 — Begin Again Video Journal No. 25

Koffiebar Goud, Grootestraat 30a, 7571 EL Oldenzaal, Netherlands https://maps.app.goo.gl/NNmqGkw16gCwKVLK6

A quiet pause in the Netherlands brought me to Koffiebar Goud — a reminder that cafés and rest stops along the way are more than places to refuel. They become markers in the journey, moments of cherished interaction. I highly recommend this little coffee bar and the community of kind people that you’ll encounter there.

Begin Again is a 15,000-mile solo cycling journey from North Cape, Norway to Cape Town, South Africa. More than an expedition, it’s a meditation in motion—exploring awareness, groundedness, and the practice of living with intention.

Well, I just enjoyed a delicious cappuccino in this wonderful shop. Man, I made so many new friends as well. I highly recommend if you’re in this little town and look for the details somewhere else around me or below in the description. I’ll include a link to this spot. It was so friendly. You’ll want to stop for sure. If you haven’t guessed, because I’m smiling so much, I am now in Holland. And it is a pleasure to be here where the cycle paths are enviable. No longer on the cycle paths that were built by the Germans for people to walk on, I think. And they’re also not very nice when you ride your bike on the road. You try to avoid them. They will beep at you, etc. I’m really exhausted after some interactions with folks beeping at me in that country. But we should keep in mind I also met a lot of Germans that I liked quite a bit. And even the ones that were grumpy, they were probably sweet, too. I just needed to meet them under different circumstances. So today and part of tomorrow, I’ll be cycling through Holland and then into Belgium, another country with amazing cycling infrastructure. And I’m heading to Casterly tomorrow. So I don’t usually know where I’m going, but tomorrow I do. I’m meeting my friend Derk there and we’re going to spend a night in a lodging opportunity and I’ll share more about that tomorrow once I get there and probably the next morning take a little more video too. I have managed to burn a fair part of this day sitting in that coffee shop, but I did enjoy the cappuccino as much as any coffee I’ve had on this whole journey.
