Cycling, Tadej Pogacar, Harry Sweeny, Wout Van Aert, Ef Pro Cycling, Quebec Cycling, UCi Canada race, UCI Quebec races

Welcome a uh Beyonce to Quebec City and I’m here for a race this weekend, but it’s not like the typical type of race that I do. It’s a bicycle race this weekend. I am shooting a bicycle race. Uh but not for anyone. I don’t even have accreditation or credentials for this race. I’m just here as a fan because I love road cycling and I want to try shooting road cycling. Like most people in the motorsports paddic, I am really into road cycling. Over the past few years, I got really into it. Bought a couple of bikes. I have a carbon road bike now and I wear my Tour to France Garb and I go riding and I love it and it’s amazing. And I’ve been consuming a lot of cycling content on YouTube and whatnot. And I really wanted to get involved and try shooting cycling. My dream event to shoot is the tour to France. So, I figured why don’t I just do what I tell everyone that wants to get involved in motorsports to do. I’m just going to go to a race as a fan and bring my camera. So, I’m here in Quebec City this weekend for the UCI Grand Prix decl. I couldn’t really pass up an opportunity. There’s a professional UCI road race with all of the pro teams, all kinds of heavy hitters in the field around this course. And the best thing about this race is for me, first time shooting cycle racing. It’s multiple laps. It is 18 laps of a 12 km circuit. So, I’ll have lots of opportunities to shoot. We’re just hanging out in the fan zone now. There’s lots of free giveaways and activations going on. I’m going to try not to spend any money on cycling stuff, but that never goes the way that I want it to. I already bought stuff. I just want to have a good time today and show you that, yeah, just go to a race, take your camera, and hey, try going to cycle racing. It’s completely free. I didn’t have to pay anything to get in. You can just go watch. It’s awesome. [Music] We wandered the fan zone for a bit and now we’ve made our way over to the rider introductions. We start in about 5 minutes. This is like uh kind of something traditional thing they do before like every every race they’ll bring all the riders up by team onto the stage, introduce them to everyone. And I have to say it’s pretty packed here. There’s a lot of people here. The fan zone down the further down the hill is packed with people. Really impressed. Like cycling as a whole is on the rise right now. A lot of people are giving a lot of credit to the Netflix series they did like Tour to France Unchained for really making people want to get involved in cycling similar to like Drive to Survive with Formula 1. So yeah, they’re going to bring the riders out, do a whole introduction, and I’m going to try and get a few shots of that hopefully. Again, everything I get today is just kind of like gravy. It’s just for fun and just for me to enjoy myself. Nicole’s here, and I don’t want to like work all day. I’m supposed to be spending time with her because cuz I’m on vacation with her, but I’m, you know, still making videos quietly on the side. Simmons, the helicopter’s overhead, so hopefully you can hear me. Um, but yeah, we just did the driver driver again. God damn it. Rider introductions. It’s not a car race. It’s a cycle race, okay? Rider introductions. And then we walked over to watch them all ride up to the start line. And it’s actually crazy how accessible it is. Like I was standing right there and they all come right by. They were stopping to sign autographs for kids and stuff. They’re already throwing bottles out or bidons as they call them. We also we, you know, you have to start saying chapo and al because you know, cycle racing. Yeah, it was really cool. Did you see how close you could get? Did some panning with the Leica, which like everyone’s like, “The Leica is so slow. You can’t pan with the Leica.” Yeah, look at that. Yeah, you can pan with the Leica. This is awesome. I’m really excited. It’s just fun to be at like an event that I’m not working and like super stressed out about. We’re just going to head towards uh the Chateau Frontac now and cuz I scouted out where I want to shoot over in that area on this bridge. I’m really hoping I can get there. It’s going to be popular, so hopefully I can get over there and get a few shots. It seems like a really cool location. I want to make sure that I nail it. Let’s go ahead, sir. Sorry. There’s a line up for the toilets now. I just let that guy go ahead of me cuz I’m a nice person. So, we’re walking the course in the opposite direction towards the chatau front neck, but I’m going to stop here. They should be at this point. This is like the second or third last corner, so I should be here in about 7 or 8 minutes. I’m going to get a nice shot as I come through the shadows in the tree down there and just see how that looks. I got my 100 to 400. I should say I’m just on vacation, so I’m using the A7S3. I didn’t bring my FX6 rig with me or anything, but I’m going to get a nice shot here and hopefully feel that Propelon just fly past me. So, [Music] okay, not a bad first lap, but the 100 to 400 was a little bit long. Um, the Pelaton came through and it was cool, but they’re barely moving right now. They’re not gassing it very hard because it’s a long race. They were they were having conversations when they came by. So, they’re still probably going like 35k an hour, but they were not um they were not flying at full speed. So, that’ll come later in the race, I think. All right. So, we’ve done three laps now and we’ve made it down to uh the chef front up there. So, this is the most popular part of the course. This is basically what they’re calling like the mountain climb portion where it’s like very steep grade uphill. There’s actually not a lot of elevation on each lap. It adds up to around like I think 2200 through the whole course after after 18 laps. But the breakaway just came through. They have like a 5 1/2 minute gap. There’s two team Canada guys in the breakaway and then someone from Rebel War Hands Grow and then someone from Alison Dernik. I want to commend u people that are still watching this that have come to me for my motorsport content because this might not be very interesting to you. But hey, cycling’s dope. Catch the fever. Buy a road bike. Burn through your bank account. It’s awesome. [Music] [Applause] We hung out over in that sort of like mountainous type session. Went up on the bridge. I got some video. got some cool photos as well. Now, we’re kind of down on the entrance into that section where they’re still going super fast before they hit the uphill. So, they come around this bend here. The breakaway just came through and they’re flying and I think I put the long lens on and I think it might be too long, but we’ll just try and get some super closeups. So, we’re flying through the course walking it backwards and it’s been awesome. It’s been so much fun. Like, it’s like a celebration of cycling. There’s so many people out with their bikes hanging out, people wearing their cycling kits, chatting about bikes. Just a fun vibe. Completely free to watch. just come out and chill. It’s been an absolute blast. I’m really looking forward to Montreal on Sunday now as well. So, when as the teams work together, you see guys will all have the same jersey. They’re on the same team, right? So, their theory will be like they want they have one guy that they want to win and they’re all trying to help him win. The guys in the breakaway, their job is to try and put pressure on the rest of the big group to go faster. [Applause] Yeah, poutine. Let’s get a poutine. We’ll just grab a poutine. I think they’re like there’s maybe nine laps left, 10 laps left. I’ve kind of lost count of the laps. We just stopped to have a quick uh poutine and then we’re going to continue on around the course. So, I’d like to get back to the park with maybe five laps to go and try and get a spot for the finish, but I think it’s going to be really busy. [Music] They just keep going. Do you see all those stairs there? We have to go up all of these now to get back to the park. I will say though, I just put the camera on a tripod, my little tiny seru photo tripod, and got I think one of my favorite shots I’ve ever gotten. That was insane. And then the Palaton blew past us and Pagota was like right next to me. It was so cool. That was actually like insane how fast they go. Like it’s actually scary cuz if a guy wipes out there, he’s coming right into you. I was probably more sketchy than I’ve ever felt like in car racing. Like in car racing, I don’t know. There’s times when it’s sketchy, but like I don’t know. It just feels different. That was really weird. Like that was just wild. It’s infectious. [Music] Oh my god. All right. So, after a bit of a jog across the uh park, I’m back kind of where we were this morning and I’m set up with the tripod just to get the riders over these uh there’s two uh ladies sitting there on this bench. I’m just going to shoot over their shoulders and get this like static shot. It’s a trend that’s really popular on Instagram right now and I’ve been trying it out where um I think the first people I saw how to do it was uh the content crew for the band Oasis on the reunion tour. They did these things like postcards where it’s almost like a moving photo, just like static shots and I’ve really fallen in love with it. I’ve seen a lot of people do it. So, I’m going to try a set from this weekend. I’ll actually go ahead and put them at the end of the video if you want to check those out. That’ll be the outro of the video. It’s just like a 4×3 frame uh color graded to look kind of vintage and uh I really like it. Again, it’s like a moving photo. It looks really cool. So, those ladies ended up moving, so it didn’t look that cool. So, I’ve now moved down here to get this shot. And this one, I swear, is going to look cool. As long as these people don’t move. We’re on the final lap now. We’ve made it down to our finishing spot. Um, I tried to get a spot to shoot the finish, but it’s not going to happen. It was way People have been camping out for seven or eight laps, so I’m just going to chill here. This is after the finish lines, but we’ll be hopefully in the cool down spot to get some really cool uh images of guys like super tired. Those are always great. Those sort of like battle hardened shots of guys. I’m a big fan of that. So hopefully we can get some of those. Not saying that I’m like wishing for guys to be like keeling over and stuff, but it does make for really good images. So Let’s go. [Music] [Applause] [Music] We didn’t get to see the finish from where we were, but Julian Alfipe won, which was incredible. He takes the win. We did get some really cool shots at the end of guys just like super just zonked out. It was amazing to see guys getting handed her bow by the swan just giving them straight candy right after him. But he was like, “All right, you take a couple and one for me and which was amazing.” Well, Van Art was there. He looked absolutely destroyed. Got to see Tana Pagotch right at the end as well as he rode by. So that was really cool, man. Get to see the world champion and arguably the best cyclist in the world. So I had a fun day out. Hopefully you enjoyed this. Again, I commend you if you’ve come here for my motorsports content and still watch this cycling vlog. But I just wanted to do this to show you that you just go to an event as a fan, take a camera with you, and you can make amazing content. Like, I got some awesome shots that I’m really proud of and really happy with. And I think that’s how you get your start in this. Like, I would love to shoot professional cycling, but I have no leeway to get into this. I don’t know anyone really that’s involved in it. I don’t know anyone that media for pro cycling. So, I just came to a race and did some shooting. And there’s something nice for me to do on a weekend off where, you know, I love shooting car racing, but sometimes it’s nice to have something away and do something different. And I would love to get into this space. So, very cool. The podium is about to kick off as the music’s getting up. So, I’ll leave you there. Thanks so much for watching. Thanks so much to the channel members right here. Really appreciate it. All the music in this vlog is from audio.com. If you want to sign up, get cool music for your videos. So see you in the next one, folks. Take care. Oh, [Music] [Applause] [Music]

  1. I love the fact you are into bicycle racing, would love to see this mature into more content. These guy's are some of the most fit athletes in the world. I would think someone from the U Tube world would see this and invite you to film some event. For the average person with interest in video or photos, skills in how to compose shots and angles is so helpful.
I hope you will pursue this content 😀

  2. Seriously great content. Great shots as well. And yes, cycling is really one very accessible sport. What you did works best on a race like Québec or Montreal.p, Where they run laps of the same circuit. Less fun, less easy to do on most races of the calendar. But stil very enjoyable. Anyway looking forward to the next one. Indy imsa ?

  3. Go to race ✅
    Take camera ✅
    Create EPIC footage ✅

Legitimately have never had a huge interest in cycling (watch maybe 1 or 2 stages of the tour when it’s convenient on tv). But, this was awesome to see, and proves that just going to something with a camera can yield you a fun day with some cool content at the end 👏
