Good morning. This is Send 7 World News in 7 minutes. I’m Nile Moore. Today is Tuesday the 16th of September, 2025. [Music] Today we’re starting in Europe. In Bellarus, large war games involving the Bellarusian and Russian militaries are taking place. Yesterday, the prime minister of Bellarus, Alexander Lucenko, insisted that the drills are defensive, but NATO countries are alert following two incidents of Russian drones entering NATO airspace. first in Poland and then on Saturday in Romania. The Polish foreign minister Radislaw Sikski says that by flying drones into Polish airspace, Russia is quote testing NATO. Meanwhile, NATO countries, including Denmark, France, and Germany, are sending soldiers and fighter jets to Poland to help strengthen its defenses. In the Netherlands, the Dutch public broadcaster Avatross has said it will boycott the next Eurovision Song Contest if Israel is allowed to compete. In Spain, the final stage of the Vela Espa cycling race in Madrid was abandoned when thousands of pro Palestinian protesters broke through security barriers and blocked the streets. The protesters were angry that an Israeli cycling team was competing in the race. The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, who has been very critical of Israel and the war in Gaza, said that the protests quote filled him with pride and called for Israel to be banned from all international sports competitions. In the United Kingdom, the United States President Donald Trump arrives today for a state visit. State visits are a rare honor in the UK and Donald Trump is the first US president ever to be invited twice. During his visit, Donald Trump will spend time with King Charles III and hold talks with Prime Minister K Starmmer. President Trump will not appear in public. A recent poll by Yuggov found that 70% of British people say they dislike President Trump. Asia in Israel, the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel will hunt Hamas leaders quote wherever they are, even in another country. Last week, Israel launched an air strike on a building in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Israel says it was targeting Hamas leaders. The strike killed six people, but whether any of them were Hamas leaders has not been confirmed. Netanyahu’s indication that Israel would strike again was made during a press conference with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Israel’s attack in Qatar is a problem for the United States government as both Qatar and Israel are US allies. Qatar’s prime minister Shik Muhammad bin Aldur Rahman Alani has called for Israel to be punished for its quote crimes. In the Philippines, a fire in a residential neighborhood of the capital city, Manila, has destroyed more than 1,100 homes. Despite the size of the fire, no fatalities were reported. What caused the fire is not yet known. Africa. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the World Health Organization has begun vaccinating people against Ebola. An initial 400 vaccines have been given to health workers and people who have been in contact with someone who has Ebola. A further 45,000 doses of the Avo Ebola vaccine are being sent to the country. Ebola is a deadly virus, killing on average 50% of people who become infected. In South Africa, the king of the country’s Zulu community has challenged a university professor to a stick fight. King Misuzulu Cazwellini is planning to build a new palace, which Professor Muskulu called a waste of public money. The king called this comment quote an insult to the Zulu nation and warned Professor Kulu to be quiet. Professor Kulu said he was not scared by the warning. No, I’m not scared. Uh I stand by saying that we will need to defend media freedom, academic freedom, and freedom of expression no matter the threats that will come with that. Americas. The United States has reached an agreement with China over the purchase of Tik Tok. The deal means that China has to sell the American part of Tik Tok to an American company. The US government is suspicious of Tik Tok because the company that owns it, Bite Dance, works closely with the Chinese government. According to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xiinping will meet on Friday to quote complete the deal. And in Canada, Prime Minister Mark Carney has launched a new government agency dedicated to building affordable homes. At a press conference, Carney said that Canada was quote in a housing crisis and it’s going to take all hands on deck to get us out of it. The new agency is called Build Canada Homes and has an initial budget of 13 billion Canadian dollars, which is 9.4 billion US. That’s your World News in 7 minutes.
