[Music] Bonjour. I’m Alex from Muloko and welcome back to my series when I ride and raid some of the most epic clims in Europe. Today I’m in the Safi Roll in Italy and I’m about to climb one that has been on my bucket list for so long is the Paso de lost. An iconic climb, really famous for its 48pin turns. I am here with a group of friends. This week we are doing a Ricky for what’s going to be a Moco trip next year. And today we have floated a 150 km loop that’s going to obviously go up the Stale View. But we are going to go down on the other side on the throughout the Umbrell Pass just to see like some different routes and I will talk to you about the climb a little bit when we go. I will get going cuz it’s 9:00 a.m. and commute is estimating 8 hours to complete this ride. So better complete it all before sunset. Let’s roll. [Music] We are driving. Woohoo. Okay. So, we made it to the bottom of the Stelvio. We’re about to start climbing now. So, there are three ways to climb Stelvio. There is the climb from Satiroll where we are. There’s also the climb from Lombardia, the another Italian region, and there is the climb from Switzerland. The longest and hardest is the one from Safa and that’s obviously the one we are choosing to do today simply because it’s the prettiest one. I’m super busy about the switchbacks. There’s nothing I love more than a switch back. Um so we about to attack. We are going for 25 km climb with 2,500 m of elevation gain and those iconic 48 switch bike climb. Let’s roll. I’ve got Laura and Jason with me. My Mayora chickens DJI team. Hola. How you feeling? Yeah, I’m feeling ready for Stelvio. I’m very excited for it. Uh, it’s been a bucket list climb since I started cycling. So, I literally cannot wait to go do it. I started my intro exactly like I was thinking. This has been a bucket list climb for so long. How you feeling, Laura? Having a little rest? I’m excited and nervous. I just want to get it started. Why nervous? Nervous. Big climb. Tired already. I’m getting dropped. I’m getting dropped. I think in the first. Why are you being so dramatic? No one drops you ever, you know. Tad sometimes. How you feeling about the stio? Excited. I can’t wait. I’m really excited. It’s actually the first time for all of us today. No one has done it before, which is really cool. Yeah. Here’s my child. How are you? Look what I got. She got the red ball. This means she’s definitely not climbing with me. She’s 100% going to drop me and leave me to dust with like all of this energy. Let’s go. Only. No, not you. Don’t. Okay, we’ve attacked the climb and we all know that Italian drivers have a terrible reputation, right? So to prevent us from the Italian drivers, Safiola has built a cycling path on the side of the stio when we climb. And I’m so here for this. Lush, lush, lush. Scared of what? What are you scared about? The rocket is being a bit dramatic. Views for now are 10 out of 10. You agree? going to get back and holding [Music] complicated. Don’t complicate it. I’m yours. Don’t keep me waiting. Don’t keep me waiting. There was a debate at this table yesterday for short sleeves or long sleeves cuz it’s going to be really cold at the top. We are so glad we opted for short sleeves because we’re roasting. Very hot out here. So, there’s a little bit of traffic, but it’s actually not Yeah, not as crazy as I thought it would be. But fun fact about Stelvio, it’s been rated one of the best driving roads in the whole of Europe by Top Gear. So, I guess that made lots of uh motorists coming here. Also funny. Oh look at this. Yeah. Also, funnily enough, when I was reading about Stellio yesterday, they were saying that um the climb was a big challenge for bikes and cars. And I laughed. I was like, “What about us with our two legs on our little bikes slaying the climb?” There is actually a day which is next Saturday that is called the stale view bike day where they close the road to cars. So it sounds perfect on paper but there actually more than 10,000 cyclists coming every year which I think is a recipe for carnage. What would you prefer? 10,000 bikes with poverty descent or a few bikes and motorbikes? I think today is actually really lush, so I picked that. How you doing? Fantastic. I love our shoes. Your eyes are matching the river. Oh, thanks. What a style. What a lady. [Music] It’s night time. [Music] Love you. This is what girls holiday is all about. Flowers flowers. I mean, we can’t do it without stopping. What’s the point? It’s the first time we all climbing it. You need to enjoy this. This is stunning. Check this bike. Whose bike is this? Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. I don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but that might be one of the best climb I’ve ever climbed. Those views. My god. Well, cuz I’m talking here, but we still have 20 switch back to go. And I think the hardest part of the climb is about to kick in with the switch back. And they still have quite a bit of work to do. All the sweet bags. I’m sorry, but this is just a matched. [Music] We did it. Chopper. [Music] Absolutely amazing trop move that was [Music] yes. And we made it to the top. And I mean I have to rate this, but that was insane. Insane. It’s definitely the most beautiful climb I’ve ever done. I mean, look at the snowy peak behind the winding road, the switchback. It was just I’m definitely 100% rating this climb a 10 out of 10. Okay, maybe I could take one minus point for the traffic cuz there there is a little bit, but to be fair, it’s August now and when we’re going to come back, it’s going to be September, so it’s probably going to be a bit less busy. But wow, the sceneries, the views, like this is unmatched. I’ve never seen anything like this. The climbing was not easy, but it was not the hardest climb ever either. I think we’ve paced it and and it was quite fine. The stair is the highest paved mountain road in the Eastern Alps, and it’s also the highest finish ever featured in the Jiro. It was crossed by the Jiro for the first time in 1953. And the first winner was obviously an Italian. It has to be called Faustoopi. Right, everyone is now waiting at the cafe. Probably gonna have some food, recap, brainstorm on like how everyone found the climb because we didn’t climb together, you know, we just like did it our own pace and I can’t wait for my chips and then we have an outstanding descent coming. I’m super excited. This is one of the best day ever. Genuinely, like I know I’m really with my education and I always say like stunning, amazing, beautiful, best day ever. But wow, I’m so happy to be here and because it’s been years I wanted to do that climb. You know, I was a bit scared of having maybe overhyped it and being a little bit, you know, when you expect something for so long, but it it went above and beyond my expectations. Nothing like the smell of chips and fried onions at the top of the climb. And how are we rating the playlist? 10 out of 10. That is appro. [Music] Wow. [Music] Laura found some like hot and squishy seats. And now we’re not bothered about descending anymore. We’re just hot and chill. We live here now. We live here now. And the music is still giving. Should we ask them for the playlist? Yeah. Yeah, that would be great descendant music actually. Oh, wow. Go on. Tell us about tell you how did you like it? What was the highlight of it? Yeah. Eight out of 10. Eight out of 10. What are the two points missing? Uh I I think the the last two kilometers are too spicy. If they just turn down the spice levels, that would be your wet chicken. Do you know? Yeah, exactly. What a wet chicken. Just chill out. But if did you not find it hard? No, there was nothing hard there. I died. I honestly gassed out. Would you go again? I saw Big Boy lunch. Yes. They got They got Chinese sandwiches. I went to They don’t know what they’re doing, don’t they? [Applause] [Applause] Right, we did it. Completed. It was the first time for both of us. That was a a genuine delight. I mean, we were rewarded with such great weather, beautiful views the whole way up, snowy peaks, and that descent was so smooth. How much do you rate the whole thing? The whole thing I would give it Oh, the it was an 8 out of 10. The descent bought it back up to a 9 out of 10. The reason it doesn’t get 10 out of 10 is cuz there were quite a lot of motorbikes and cars. I did say the same at the top. Like I I think it’s definitely it would be a 10 out of 10 ride if there was like the same amount of traffic that there is in the Alps for example when you feel like you don’t have that many cars. But yeah, the motorbikes were bit wankers when there like some of them were. That’s say it is August. is still school holidays. So, there are lots of Italians, French, Spanish, and when we come back next year, it’s going to be September. So, it’s going to be more quiet. It’s actually going to be interesting to see the difference. I definitely think that uh going down that other path, I forgot the name of it. I said it earlier on screen now. And and Hans Pass, Had anywhere on screen now. So, going down that path instead of Stilio was actually really good call because there was no one. It was empty, empty, empty. So, we had the whole descent in one flow with no cars. And that was epic. As you said, it brought back the score. I was going downhill being like, “Woohoo! This is incredible.” I think the only word I can use to describe that ascent was sublime. It was sublime. Sublime in French. Right. So, Stelvio big fat. Yes. It completely met my expectations. Didn’t disappoint at all. It was an awesome day. As you can see, we all super buzzing about to have some food now. I got me a steak tarta. Excited. And a quick one on where to stay. So, we actually staying in Mirano, which is not far from Bulzano in Italy in a gorgeous hotel that has like seven pools or something like this. All different temperatures. We’ve got a whole spa system. There’s got some yoga and lots of things every day, which is actually a very plus here because the weather can be a bit moody and it can change. in the maintain so we can have the most amazing day today any rain tomorrow. So get yourself that super cozy accommodation because we have rain forecasted in 3 days and all of us we actually can’t wait to have a nice summerstorm cozy day sleeping champagne by the pool in the jacuzzi the sound of the rain. Oh, it’s going to be gorgeous. Anyway, this is not the end of this video. I hope you enjoyed finding out a little bit more about the stale view, seeing the view, seeing what it looks like. Beautiful! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Beautiful climb and views. I have done it on the trainer a few times and it is not nearly as fun. The 46/30 comes in handy if all you've got is a 28 in the back!
J'espère qu'ils vont prolonger les voies cyclables.
Have a fun ride with friends. Be careful while driving. Energy drinks are not healthy while riding. Drink juices instead. My dear🎉😊❤
It was my lifelong dream too! I drove it two times from Prato! But for me the nicer Side is from Umbrail! Much quieter and just as beautiful views!
WOW super Nice ❤
come to india.
beautiful climb and scenery! 😍
I did the car free day on the Stelvio last year. I didn't feel that it was crowded at all because there is no fixed starting point nor starting time and therefore the participants are spread over the whole route.
Do the Gavia. It’s a much prettier climb. Also car free day is awesome!
Thanks for the video!
I climbed Stelvio and go down as You by Umbrail last month – best descent ever!!!
When I first rode the Stelvio in 1979, the decent on the Umbrail was different as the corners high on the pass were gravel.
Moloko have the best summers ❤
What's your average speed in the climb and how long is the climb? Very cool vid again!
👏🇧🇷❤️
Beautiful ride and all of you look like models! Hate the music.
All 3 sides are pritty😉
