Scarborough surprised us! Yes, it’s got that classic “bit scuzzy” seaside charm, but it’s also genuinely beautiful with wild rugged cliffs, stunning castle views, and a proper fun atmosphere. On a day like this with blazing sunshine, it’s absolutely worth the visit.
From Wetherspoons vibes to wild coastal beauty – this place has got it all!

Welcome to Scarbados. It’s down there in the thick of it, isn’t it? It looks like the epicenter of Weather Spoons. The funny thing is once you’re out of town a little bit, you come down here and you face this way, you can see that’s going to be nature all down there. Big wide rugged cliffs complete and utter, you know, wildness really. Of course, the other big thing about Scarra is Scarra Fair. It’s had a bit of a revival of late I’ve heard. So, it’s got like a surfer culture. It’s got um it has like an art fair. It has a punk festival. Yeah. And it has Scarbor fair of course which is encompasses all sorts of stuff like street fair, art, um culture, all that sort of stuff. And when I was about 9 or 10 years old, I bought my first digital watch, a Casio watch. And one of the tunes they put on my first Casio digital watch was Scarbor Affair by Simon Agaruncle. So I have forever linked to this town somehow. It’s a banging tune. It’s a banging tune. We are going to Scarbor affair. That’s about all I can remember. Yeah, me too. I think it’s about herbs in there. Something about herbs and feathers in your hat probably. Yeah. And it’s not even the sort of herbs that are popular in these parts. Yeah. Mind you, it was Simon and Garuncle type of herbs, so they might have been into it. Yeah, definitely. And we are definitely going to Whippby, aren’t we? We are 100% going to Whitby. Not today, but some point, very soon. We’re going to Whitby. Whoa, look at this. Beach Hut Shalies for higher. What’s that say? £27 a day, £50 a week or January 27 quid August 50 quid per week. This is this will be Oh, I see. Yes, that’s right. All per week. Sorry, I misread that. Yeah, that’s right. So, I think that probably be 275 quid for a week at high season. Different seasons. Yeah. Yeah. High tide at five. And this is what you could see from your beach hut every day for your 27 quid. There’s your hut. There’s your little view. Not bad. You get a VO here. Let’s have a look. Oh, look at this. This is a bit fancy. Got a Victorian feel to it. Oh, 100%. Oh, look. You’ve got nice bit of dining. You got a band stand to play music with the the ocean in the background. The ocean. The ocean. You got the ocean in the background, isn’t it? This was the biggest music venue outside of London. Really? Yes. That’s why they built the railways in and all the vernaculars. Well, I got to say, so far Scarra is pretty much what I expected, but a little bit better. It’s pretty cool in a strange sort of way. I mean, it’s always cool coming somewhere when the sun is screaming hot in the sky and there’s not a cloud to be seen. I mean, that is going to make a difference. I think it would be a very different place in the middle of winter. Locals call this place Scarbados. Scarbados at its best. Go on, son. [Music] Man, on a chopper. A real chopper as well. That was the real deal. You got a hoot. That was a proper chopper. That was a genuine 70s machine. Back to uh our correspondent here. Do you know the name of the architect that designed the Grand Hotel? Right. Come on then. Who was it? Cuffbut Winklton. Good effort. Good effort. You got the cuff right. It was Cuthbut Brick. Brick. Yeah. Do you know what else he did? Come on. I’ve tested you on this. Grand Theater. No. Leads. Town Hall. Oh, town hall. Cuffford Brick designed the grand hotel and he built Leeds Town Hall and he also built I think it was Hull Town Hall. It’s messy, isn’t it? Seagull crap and seagulls. It’s almost like he designed it for them. Kath Brick stick to town halls. Unless he was a an animal activist or he was also an activist. Also a member of the RSPB. Got to watch out for these pesky seagulls. He literally took one out that kid’s hand. Oh, and now she’s crying. No thanks. That’s great. Thank you. One hot donut, one cold ice cream, and we are good to go. I might well go on the ferris wheel. Let’s see how good the pirate ship goes down. We still got to get through ambin It’s Bronte for God’s sake. You’ve done it again. Still want to get on it. Going for a bit of jolly Roger action here. Half a pirate ship. That is listing as well to the side. Yeah. He’s getting the handbrake on. There he goes whacking it around. Bigger than that. It’s a converted fishing boat in it. Let’s be honest. What a driver. It’s done that before. That would be the dream job, wouldn’t it? Just retiring and driving a pirate ship around Whitby Scar Bro even. It’s the perfect ending to life, isn’t it? I want to die at sea. I’m done with it. Chances are we’re going to sometime in the next 10 minutes. He wanted to be buried at you. See, well, this is different. Where are we going to sit in the middle? It seems sit here. Right. I have been persuaded to come out on a pirate boat ride. Here we are in the harbor about to hit the high seas and do a bit of hijacking. So, here we go. Let’s get out there. If we’re lucky, we’ll see some poor poises, maybe even some dolphins. These are the rest of Miatis. Let’s have a look at them. Shipmates. Yeah, mates. Oh, he’s putting his foot down. It’s time to raid some boats out in Scarra Harbor. Oh my gosh. Look, there’s the bumper. It’s full on. We’ll have to get down there next. Those people, they’re getting seriously swung about. It’s a perfect day for a bit of raiding out on the sea here as we get past the lighthouse. Oh, look. It’s got a it’s got a mermaid thing or whatever that is. Looks like a Damian Hurst up there. There’s Scarra in the distance. Possibly one of the most ridiculous things we’ve done on Scazzy London yet. Cheers. That was great. Should I be in for the first one today? You can do it. Bye. Thank you. And that was our pirate boat ride. That was phenomenal. What’s next? Let’s go on the big wheel and do all the other stuff. Yeah, we’re going on the big wheel. We got to do the slot machines. Slot machines. Candy floss. Big wheel. What else? Should we get some candy floss? Scazzy Town. Oh, that would be good. Actually, get that right in your mush. I was never allowed it as a kid. Oh, well, you’re allowed it today. That’ll proper rot your nashes. Oh, wow. There we go. That was so fast. I don’t think I got it. I’m going to play left-handed now for this one. Oh, how many was that? That was four. Four. Here we go. That was a stroke of genius. Yeah. Yes. [Music] Oh, you just Oh, just skimmed the hole. Done that a few times. You played this before. Yeah, it’s one of my favorite courses. This I love the pirate ship course. We’re on a roll here. She hasn’t got a chance. FAC. Oh my god. You are kidding me. It’s in the hole. I actually beat you. I’ve been humiliated on my own local course and everything on peg leg. Let’s go. Woo! Oh my god. What is going on? What’s going on? Two. Two on the hardest one. Think of that then. I’m very impressed. What did you do? A lot more. Got a choice of two olds here. Going to try and pick the right one. Do you know what I mean? Right. We we’ll cut cut that cut that. It needs to be millimeter perfect for this one. [Music] Well done. That was good. Oh Jesus. That wasn’t safe at all. Let’s clean off the course. Oh, I’m going to have to go and get that. Look at that. It’s down there. You have to stick your arm through the gap. Where the hell’s it gone? Oh no. You’ve totally monged it. Oh, come on, Spider hands. Oh, we’re holding the course up. The punters behind are very upset. Going for my last chance at a hole in one here. Oh, not quite. Two. I think we have a winner. Ah, that was great. I really enjoyed that round. Everything went well. The weather was fantastic. The fans were awesome. Conditions were perfect. Couldn’t have asked for a better day out. I’ll see you next time at the Royal Pirate Golf Course. Here is Scarra. Yep. What have I got? 55. 55. That’s 55 for me. And the Cars Master 82. 82. I won. It doesn’t work that way. You did come second out of two. Well done. Thank you. There must be more fish and chip shops here on Scarra Seafront than anywhere else in the country, I tell you. Look at this. Penny Arcade, the full works. This place has got it all. Look at that. Once again, 1 minute, 1 minute off the seafront. Dead quiet. I think we need to go around here. I guess the pirates have moved on to land these days. Look at this house. That’s all that’s left of his boat. That’s all that’s left of his old mate. Used to live on his shoulder. Ex pirates gaff. It’s a nice house. Well, this is the residential part. It’s actually really quite smart. I think this is quite a nice bit of town, you know. This will be the north end. Yeah. Really steep cobbled steep hill there. Nice houses on the steep bit. And this just feels nice too. This cobbled area. Bit of a decent part of Scarra here. And what have we here? We got some more fantastic cultural historical facts coming up for you. Sit tight, folks. There’s more to come. We’re going to have a guide for this one. Meet Caroline. She’s going to show us all about a dead person dead ahead if we could find her. Look at these graves are old. Richard Wilson. I don’t believe it. Let me know in the comments if you get that one. Shouldn’t laugh at this stuff. No, it’s very serious. Though he did die in 1798. This is Anne Bronte. They all died really young. So you had obviously got Anne, Charlotte, and Emily. They’re the three novelists. But there was also a brother. I think his name was Branwell. Oh. And there were two younger sisters, Maria and Elizabeth. And they both died when they were like in school of TB consumption. I think Anne then died when she it says here she died when she was 28, but she was actually 29 when she died. They all lived in Howeth in West Yorkshire. But Anne also died of tuberculosis. She came to Scarra for like you know when people with TB they’d go and like go to the seaside you know for like restoration and recovery. So that’s what she was doing here and then she uh she died in Scarra and they buried her here but the rest of the family are buried in Howeth. So she would have been here for the spa and the spa water and the health and the good the good air and all that good stuff to try and help her get through. That’s right. Yeah. But she’s one of the she’s probably the lesser known. She wrote The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and Agnes Gray. She wrote two novels and and poems as well, but she was the least known of the sisters really. Um, obviously Charlotte and Emily are like the big gun. So Emily only wrote one, which is Weathering Heights. We all know that. Charlotte, she wrote her big like blockbuster was Janeire. Of course, everyone’s heard that. She also wrote Villette, The Professor, Shirley, and Emma. So she actually died of tuberculosis halfway through writing Emma. Okay. So it was published postimously after she died. Yeah. That’s it. Yeah. Brilliant. So yeah, that’s a bit on the Bronte’s. You know, it just so happens that Anne was up here because she she was trying to recover and never quite made it. Oo, look at that. Oh, it’s a kids play area. Sort of. It was a Viking longboat or something. We’re going to walk around the ramparts of this castle a little bit. It’s pretty impressive as castle walls go. I have to say Oh, look at that. Now that’s a view. Wow. Look down there. There’s a stage set up for the the bands that are playing in a couple of weeks. Super Grass and the Boys Hall there. This is the north side of the peninsula at Scarra. So, a lot less built up. Got all these terrace houses, probably guest houses with incredible views over the bay. And then we’ve got the castle wall behind us. And you keep going round and round and round and round and you come to Robin Hood’s Bay, Whitby, eventually places like that heading north and back around the castle here to the normal Scarra. But this is beautiful on a day like this. It really is. Look at that. What place? Don’t write Scarra off just yet. It’s not as bad as you might think. It’s a bit scuzzy here and there. It’s also pretty beautiful. If you like a good castle, this is a place to come. And it goes all the way around, right out this peninsula. You can’t see it beyond there, but it goes right round. Welcome to the Kippers. Are you a good boy? Are you a good boy? Oh, Dudley. Oh, man. Start crying. Oh, thank you. You’re welcome. I’ll see you later. See you later. See you then. Bye. I want to know. I’m curious. I’ve just visited Scarra for the day and I’m wondering what is your favorite British seaside town. Makes me wonder about things like that. This is not necessarily my favorite, but I am definitely curious as to everybody’s ideas. Where have you been? Obviously, you got Brighton, Blackpool, Scarbor, Whitby, Margate, Ramsgate, you name it. There’s a whole bunch of them. And then you’ve got secret places like I like like the Gower Peninsula and the more wild and rugged beaches of Scotland. What would be your choice? Where are your favorite places? Let me know. I’d love to know. I’d love to know down below. Some secret and some hidden gems somewhere in the UK. Goes in there. Oh, now a proper nerd. Oh my god. One something. No, we’re not. Saves about 2,000 steps. [Music] We’re just by Victoria statue again. I know where we were 3 minutes ago. Yeah, far off. My god, there’s the Scarra Mobility Shop. I bet they make a fly. I bet they do flat out. Don’t know why they’re closed. Multi-billionaires. I mean, that is quite a cool building though in those colors. It’s nice, isn’t it? And this is Scarra Beach with the tide full in. Look at this. What a cracking beach it is when the tide’s in like that. People are even enjoying it. Got the big wheel. We nearly went on that earlier. Of course, you’ve got the penny slops and things there. Grand Hotel, the pirate ship that we went out earlier out onto sea out that way. There’s the big castle around the top looking over protecting it all on this side on the south side. The tacky fun shops you get at seaside resorts here. It’s actually not bad, you know. It’s not a bad spot to come and have a bit of fun. Yeah, it’s worth a look. It’s worth a look, especially on a cracking day like this. I recommend it. [Music] Oh, cool. [Music] Well, that is it from Scuzzi Scarbor from the South Bay around the peninsula and the castle to here in the North Bay where it’s a bit wilder. and I will see you next time from somewhere else in the scuzzy old UK. See you next time.

I’d love you to do a video of the Northumberland coastline, despite living Ooof North, it’s one area I’ve never explored. Extremely funny and informative vid with some superb shots and great editing. Well done 🎉
