Cycling Caen to Saint Malo on the eurovelo 4 route on a folding bike

This is what is already done. So, after a pretty horrible ferry sailing, well, it wasn’t too bad to be honest. It was really uh bad in terms of sleeping. I’m here in France. [Music] So, day two and day one was pretty good. 25 miles with 500 ft of climbing. We’re doing it. for you. Are you good? So, it’s day three back on the road. Last night, uh, last night’s sleep was pretty horrible to be fair. I just couldn’t get comfortable. I got too hot and too humid in there. So, I thought today’s hotel day. Let’s just crack on. Get to St. Low. Just having a quick rest. Um, I’ve pretty much pushed on to St. Low. There wasn’t really many places to stop along the way. Um, like for coffee and breakfast and stuff. So, I thought if I push, I can get there probably for just after 11:00 and I’ve got an hour to kind of just wander around before heading into the hotel, get myself ready, checked in the hotel, rest, and then go out and have a proper explore and get some food. Um, so I have pushed a little bit, but we’ll see how my legs feel tomorrow. They feel right now, but [Music] [Music] So that’s the end of day three. Gone into St. Law. Had a walk about, got some food. Food was amazing. 39% of the way done, which after 3 days is mega. Then we got a short ride tomorrow, roughly 18 miles, so I’ll be around about halfway. Just woken up and really good sleep compared to the other night. So, it’s day four. Um, and today had a look at the weather. It’s not looking too good in terms of um, in the area there’s a local thunderstorm warning, the yellow warning. I’ve decided to extend the hotel update for tonight. Tomorrow it’s raining, but there’s no thunderstorm for when I came in last. I went to the front desk cuz my card wasn’t working out. I was like, “Oh, can I quickly check on my bike. First thing I noticed was the rear light was gone. I had a really good search cuz I remember looking at the rear light before I went in and how dirty it was from the dust. I’m going to leave that on cuz no one’s going to take it. Um not upset by it. I’m not Oh my god. I’m just a bit confused. Why would you take my rear light? So, it’s day five on the tour. again. We’ve got another one today. So, go get another hotel, which we’ve already booked this morning. Was meant to be cheap camping, but here we are. Um, but the weather after today looks pretty good for the rest of the week. So, hopefully we’ll get back to a little bit of camping. It’s pretty cool cuz along the trail there just like bits of art dotted about. Um yeah. Just had my first mechanical issue. My chain randomly came off. So, we got the first bit of rain on the trip. And yeah, I wasn’t very prepared. I didn’t really bring a proper raincoat. Uh, but I did bring this hat. So, I arrived at my hotel on the fifth day. So, we did 30 30 and a half miles. Bit glad I didn’t do the full 50k, but it was pretty good. Yeah, little tiny room. So, yeah, all good. Happy to be here. So, it’s day six and we’re doing 26.66 Six six miles today and camping in a place called Mortine. So, I’ve got my I’d say second problem, but probably a bit of a bigger problem, is incredibly stiff. And what’s happening is when I’m cycling, it’s almost rolling forward on my under my foot, whereas this one spins. It’s not too much of a problem. which is a bit weird. Uh far so good in terms of issues. Um just a bit of a minor one, but luckily I got spare pedals at home. Doesn’t help this situation, but if you want to get back. So, we’re 22 miles in. Uh feeling pretty good. Pretty close to the finish for today. Um been a really good cycle. It’s literally just been along a path the whole entire day. So, I’ve barely been on a road. Just working on cleaning some of my bike. The chin. It’s pretty dirty. I’m just going to give a bit of a clean. same. So, I’ve literally started off today. Uh I’ve done about 400 m and it was meant to be a uh non-hilly day and it’s already a big hill right in front of me. flight, of course. So, today I’ve got to take it a little bit slow just because check-in’s at 4:00 and then it’s only 20 mi and it’s going to be pretty much easy riding. So, I’ve made a proper nice room. Um, and I asked if I could turn my bike in, and they said that’s absolutely fine. Um, it literally takes up no space. So, don’t have to worry about that. Time to shower, rest, get a coffee, and then head out for dinner later. But it was a good ride today. So, I’m back out on the road. Um, bit nervous on this one because I don’t actually have anywhere to stay. I’ve messaged someone on warm shower to see if they’ll reply for tonight. go try uh a hotel was a failing that. So today could be my second to last day or the other option I cycle into St. Maroon and finish it today. Uh you probably can’t see it but that is where I’m heading. So it was last year I walked from Winchester to Portsmouth and this is actually the finish line of the French leg. So I’ve kind of completed that. So, I’ve had a pretty brutal day. Essentially, I’ve cycled like 55 miles. the the heat in the tent. I was like, “Oh my god, I feel sick.” Like, I can’t do this for the rest of the evening. So, I thought if I push the final few miles, I think I was only like six miles out of St. Marlo. Um, I do it. So, I pushed out a hotel. I’ve done the 255 miles or 225. I’ve cycled from KHN to St. Mar. It’s done. I can rest. But I’ve done it. Yes. Guys, [Music] [Music] 2
