Hello, I’m councelor Gareth Dowling, deputy leader at West Lanasher Burough Council. I’m here in Parbold at the canal tow path where community infrastructure levy funding from the Burough Council of up to half a million pounds has been invested to improve the tow path here for around 3 and a half kilometers at this stretch. This is part of the wider ambition from the council to ensure the entire stretch of the leads Liverpool canal through West Lancaster has canal tow path upgrades. We’ve been investing over the past 10 years, a couple hundred thousand here and there, and hopefully we’ll get the whole stretch done over the next couple of years. It’s been great to work with the Canal and River Trust to make sure that this comes through. Uh, and we hope residents right across West Lancasher will make use of this facility for walking, hiking, bringing the dogs for a walk, cycling, and so on and, uh, visiting all the lovely hostelies along the way. So we’ve been really lucky to receive a large grant from the uh West Lanc Council to do a major toe path improvement project along 3.5 km stretch of toe path. It’s got a really lovely surface dressing that’s suitable for everybody to come and use. So that’s walkers, cyclist, dog walkers, people in wheelchairs, push chairs. Um we’ve widened it so it’s going to be a lot easier for people to have passing places. And it was bo uh boggy and muddy before. It’s now usable throughout the year and we’re really keen to encourage more people to come down and use our toe paths because they’re fantastic places that benefit benefit both your mental and your physical well-being.
