Last year I decided to try something new. I got an electric mountain bike the Yamaha Moro-07 and set out to explore Norway in a completely different way.
After more than 20 years of motorcycle riding, riding the same roads again and again had taken away some of the excitement.
This e-MTB opened up new opportunities, letting me revisit breathtaking places and discover trails that motorcycles can’t go.
In this video, I spend a week on the road with my bike and gear, camping, exploring, and learning what it really takes to live off-grid while riding an e-MTB.
If you love motorcycles, camping, or just finding new ways to explore the outdoors, I think you’ll enjoy this one.

[Music] Last year, I decided it was time for something new. An electrical mountain bike. Here in Norway, some of the most breathtaking views are hidden deep in the mountains, often hours of hiking away. Hi. Hi. Norway is full of trails and off-road tracks, but there’s one thing they all have in common. Motorcycles aren’t allowed. This is a trend we see around in many European countries. Gravel roads are getting closed and the options are few with the motorcycles. And it’s easy to sit at home, complain, and look for someone to blame. But the reality is simple. The rules aren’t going to get looser, only tighter. And for someone like me who loves adventure and off-road riding, the choice was clear. Adapt and find new ways to explore the great outdoors. We have a lot [Music] I love life on the road, camping, exploring, and discovering new places. But where I live, there aren’t many options for riding gravel or finding fresh trails. After more than 20 years on a motorcycle, riding the same roads again and again can take away some of the magic. With an electrical mountain bike, I’ve been able to revisit some of Norway’s most breathtaking places and experience them in a completely new way. That’s something I’ve really come to appreciate this past year. Of course, our electrical mountain bike has its limitations. To make the most of it, you need a way to transport the bike and your gear, and you need a reliable source of power to recharge between rides. Luckily, with the technology we have today, it is easier than ever to stay on the road for days fully off-rid without ever needing to plug in. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Everything. [Music] [Music] [Music] Hello. [Music] Hey. Hey. [Music] Oh, wait. [Music] [Music] What? Back with the car. Just some equipment. Hitting the road again. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Damn, it’s cold. Today I’m here at the Nespin. I wanted to ride some uh trails in the mountains here, but it’s snow in a weather forecast and I don’t have snow tires on my car, so I don’t want to risk getting stuck in a mountains today. It’s minus1°, so there’s probably a little bit of icing on the road. That’s all part of the adventure. It’s warm and okay to sleep in the car though. But um yeah, I feel like I have to wait a couple of hours to see if the weather the fog Oh Alarm on my phone. I will make myself some breakfast. I will do some work here in the car before I yeah just try to wait out the weather and see if it will uh become better later because this fog doesn’t seems to go away anytime soon. Yeah, that’s how it is. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Come on. Oh, [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] I just spent way too many hours on um changing the rear tire. Uh the tread pattern on the tire was um almost gone and I didn’t I felt it was spinning a lot. You should think that flipping on a bicycle tire is much more easy than a motorcycle tire, but uh it’s obviously not because uh not only did I struggle to get the tire on the rim itself, I also pinched flat two four places. So, I spent a couple of hours looking for a store that could um sell me a new tube, and thankfully the guys at the store managed to flip it onto the rim for me as well. So, uh I managed to get a couple of hours now out on the trails. There’s another thing that I absolutely um love and it’s easy to forget because I find a lot of the trails online and to navigate some of the trails there are a lot of trails intersection with each other that makes it really hard to navigate the path if you don’t have the trail in front of you. So, I download the tracks from uh the web page and I just open it up in Guru Maps on my mobile phone and I can control with the handlebar controllers and I absolutely love it. It’s much much more um uh how to say it. Oh, I lost the English word. I use it much more than I thought I would. So, yeah, that I can highly recommend as well. To wrap it up, I’m gonna put the bike into the car again and then I’m just going to find somewhere to camp. See if there’s a place I can wild camp or uh yeah, I don’t think it will be too cold tonight. Amazing place. This absolutely love this part of Norway with um forest trails they have. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] This past year has reminded me that adventure doesn’t have to look the same as it used to. It’s not about how far you travel, how fast you go, or even what you ride. It’s about getting out there, exploring, and feeling that sense of freedom. For me, the electric mountain bike has opened up a whole new way to see Norway and a whole new way to experience the outdoors. It has taken me back to places I’d almost forgotten about and showed me completely new ones. And it’s not always easy. There’s planning, packing, finding places to charge, and sometimes just figuring out how to make it all work. But that’s part of the adventure, too. And when you’re sitting by the campfire at the end of the day, completely worn out after hours of riding, you realize it was worth every bit of effort. Because in the end, it’s not just about riding. It’s about keeping that spark for adventure alive, however you choose to chase it.

Love this 👍👍
Perfect change of pace on the MTB, spectacular scenery. Thanks for the relaxing vibe – cheers!
Awesome vid Thomas😃👍👌 Makes me re-think about bringing my moto to Norway. An e-bike could work to explore those hidden gems. I wonder how good/bad is it for the lower back? By the way, the black on the sides of the van looks great. Maybe an idea to install a simple diesel heater in the van or an infrared panel connected to the powerbank. Nice project😊😇
Very nice footage and very true words. I built my eMTB mostly for those steep rough trails, but I try to remind myself that I can use it for exploring and adventures like this as well. Oh, and Nesbyen is a pretty special place for MTB indeed 🙂 Did you try out all the trails?
If you want to do this more often, you need the right shoes with sturdy soles and ankle protection. Just like riding a motorcycle. Have fun! I like it. However, my "tennis elbow" is holding me back right now.
Great video Thomas as always. Really enjoyed watching you explore a new way to adventure. I can definitely recommend tubeless tyres – I have them on both my MTB and gravel bike – punctures are very rare and easy to repair. Just interested to know what made you go for an e-bike rather than just pedal power?
Digger dette! Gode vinkler, flott formidling, vakker natur og masse talent! Du leverer fra øverste hylle! 🤩
In the US, Yamaha abandoned support for these almost instantly. We can't buy any parts especially a new battery for them. So once the battery fails the bike is junked. It's sad cause I really wanted to buy one. Love Yamaha but they dropped the ball on these ebikes bad. I think having to get parts from China that have poor quality control was the cause.
Whao ,great video thomas, just got back from norway a couple of weeks ago. It was beautiful…it was pretty warm 2 weeks ago…now it cold already?whao….
This is my jam 💚 Looking forward to seeing more E-MTB content🔥
It's the same here in Scotland except I just use a regular hard tail mountain bike to explore on the pushbike. I'm still too much of a fat cnt for the e bikes. 😂
Very good vid TS. I love the new electric bikes especially the Yamaha's. They have the edge on batteries as they gave been making them over fifty years. Mainly golf carts and the like. A couple friends have the new bikes. Range is about 60 miles, 100 km. Switch batteries and keep going in some fairly tough conditions. One certainly doesn't have to ho far for adventure. These days I do a lot of shorter trips say 60 to 100 miles away and just do a loop back to home. Different discoveries along the way you won't see at speed. Hopefully my new knee will let me back on a bicycle this coming year. Tough right now even with the stroke fully extended the top action will make me grit my teeth and see stars. I'll keep working on it. Enjoyed the vid very much. You always have to remember where in the world you are. Not far from the Circle. The weather can shift anytime now. And it will. Stay out and enjoy. There are more friendly southern environments this winter. Or a snow machine to camp from. Freezing just isn't as much fun as it used to be at 70. You take care. Be safe in your endeavors. Next time Nomad Mountain Man
The true riches of life are a peace of mind and freedom. Awesome videos, thanks man.
Mountain biking here in Norway is just great! I have never tried it with an electric bike, just the good old fashion human pedal driven type 😅
It's an adventure, but it brings less freedom…
Amazing video (again)! Great to see that you enjoy MTB as well as motorbiking.. Question: What kind of cell phone holder are you using and the remote control is from the same company ?
Hi Thomas, as an E-MTB’r my advice to you is to run a tubeless set up on your bike. It’s literally minutes to plug a puncture and be back on the trail. Even with tubeless, It’s still best to carry a tube, just in case you cut or tear a sidewall but most punctures are from central penetration and an easy fix. Also, tubeless enables you to run lower tyre pressure which offers better traction/grip and comfort
Great video by the way👍
Hi Thomas, I live in the French alps, near Mont Blanc. There are very few trails here open to motorcycles but lots of scope on an ebike. I bought my ebike in 2019 and love the freedoms it gives me. I love my Husky 701 too, but need to ride more than an hour from home to find new trails to explore. Whereas I am still finding new trails on my ebike just riding from home. I’m definitely bringing my ebike to Norway next time we come, maybe next summer. Great video, loved the spark from the campfire into your logo. Very creative.
/munken
Absolutely fabulous Thomas
Your film making has surpassed all normal human possibilities
👏👏👏👏
When you put a new vlog "Its movie time for me" , your episodes are very cinematic and entertaning. On foot, motorbike or Mtb makes no difference Norway stays as beautiful as ever.
the remote navigation buttons are super useful, what is the brand?
It's a fantastic way to experience the restrictive nature of Norway for sure!
Any thoughts on the Bonnell 775 MX?
It looks like a fantastic way to eliminate the worst part about biking ( the uphills with bad traction ), i am heavily considering that one myself, but i still have a ways to go with saving up for it yet.
Also, what fenders are those? They look really neat for MTB style bikes!
Bensinpris på 17-tallet, jøss…!
Travel by the best means possible…whether that be hike, bike, cycle, van or train 👏
I know Norwegians enjoy a bit of winter sun…if thats your thing…consider heading back to Morocco for some eMTB'ing in the Atlas Mountains 👌
As you say, Its all about being out in the great outdoors. Thanks🙏 so much for having inspired me to rethink my future MTB (not Ebike) tours. In my country DK🇩🇰 we have many MTB tracks so I have many new tours ahead of me.. U all, Drive safe on your bikes
Hey. Been on my motorbike many many times in Norway. This summer me and my wife drove in” Bobilen” with our E-MTB on the back. We rode them so many cool places that I have been before solo on the motorbike. The E-MTB is another level exploring nature. We tok the old Road over Røldal to Haukeli, Flåm – Myrdal trainstation, the trails in Nesbyen an many others. What a great trip and what a fantastic country Norway is❤. You make great content, and I do like following your adventures both on the motorbike and the E-MTB😊
Veldig bra Thomas. Du inspirer.
Hey Thomas, lovely to see you exploring the nature on a Ebike. It's funny how life has many ways to lead people to the same destination….. . As myself, it has taken me but oposite direction, 20 years of riding trails on enduro bicycles and now extending my radius at my 50s on Yamaha WR.I know, that for you is mainly about exploring the nature and make a beautyfull shots, to me it is still about finding pure joy of riding …. .
Tjommi, a lot of good feeling in this vid. Catched myself looking with a curious smile 🙂 You got some magic fog there and the sunshine on the trail! EMTB is great for keeping up skills and explore the landscape on trails, nice take on the downhill there Tjommi 🙌
Great video, Thomas. I truly enjoyed watching this one 😃 You are becoming a master of storytelling and keeping us entertained throughout the video.
I have so much to learn from your videos 🤌
Oh I bet your body Ached from this ride.
Takes Strength, Stamina and Courage to ride the rough trails.
I see your Van is the same Colour as the Cabin. I like red too!
I'm enjoying your foray into emtb adventure riding, yes tire changing a mtb so much depends on rim design/tire choice, rim well depth is crucial and I'm sure you understand to remove or install, have as much tire bead in the well as possible while you work on that last portion…and a bonus battery tip, when not in use store your battery at around 60%, even if it means a partial charge👍
Herlig. Mer av dette! Det er en helt ny verden for oss som har kjørt litt MC rundtomkring. Skal kjøpe meg E-mtb ila vinteren,
