As Albania moves towards EU membership, this report delves into their vicious tradition of blood feuds, a system of honour enshrined in blood that has claimed 10,000 lives since the fall of communism.

“Ten years ago my father killed a man in a fight at work”, says 18-year-old Ahmet. “Since then, I haven’t left the house because my life would be in danger.” Ahmet is one of 800 youth in Albania forced into a life of isolation after becoming the target of a violent reprisal in ‘Kanun’, the ancient honour system. Trapped in his grandparents’ house for his own safety he lives in constant fear. But as Albania is in the process of EU accession, many like mediator Pashk Lleshi hope truces can pave the way for the prevention of blood feuds.

  1. Women's blood feuds are much more violent.

Have celebrities recently had a striking similarity to you. Do you find strangers staring at you intently or being rude to you at the market seemingly with not cause? Do you feel as if you have been blackballed everywhere you go?

You could be the victim of the women's blood feud. It can effect men and women. they look for female features in men. Particularly the female features of the female the woman has had a conflict with.

She will exercise this feud with her friends (male and female) and allies on any male or female that possesses these features of thewoman has had a quarrel with. Sometimes they will broadcast the features and mannerisms of the target through paparazzi shoots or other celebrity public appearances if the woman has connections with the celebrity world. Then the populace will act accordingly.

The maternal instinct in women primarily is able to recognize physical features and movements and they are often attached to a emotional response.

In effect this can look like when all the chickens attack one hen. This revenge based blood feud can effect men and women.

A scorned woman may even employ this revenge against her own child or a stranger on the street as the emotional response they get is extremely violent.

Some matriarchal Native American tribes even have a chicken pecking dance that seems to symbolise the employment of this type of blood feud that inevitably leads to genocide.

Today often the stereotype is that men are responsible for violence and wars. Well if you know history (even the story of Adam and Even) you will know that women are capable of extreme aggression. Usually much more subtle but much more brutal and unethical. Classic male agression is usually a blown vent or fuse that starts and ends quickly women's rage lasts an eternity ……..as the saying goes ……"hell has no fury lika a………

Women are also more prone to experience relationship agression (similar to food agression) the response to this emotion can be wildly brutal and competitive.

  2. 6:28 This sickens me. Their government prefers to sacrifice them so they can join the EU. Don't they realise sweeping this under the carpet makes them look way more backward than admitting there is a problem and tackling it head on?

  3. blood fued exists among many families, cultures and religions and depends from person to person. Even in asia, europe, usa, africa you can find this. Just depends on the people.

  4. Yes, a lot of places used or actually use that old as time "eye for an eye" but family members? Children and even partners shouldn't be never involved in that. That's not a law of respect for life, it's a bloody revenge and just gives people reason to hurt others justifying it. That's not a honor or reason to have those laws in a first place. They have to remain peace not to start a family to family violence! People are people, great in communication, you CAN always solve those with words without any or really little blood. Killing someone as a revenge for a killed won't make an end point, it's only create a circle of violence in there only innocent suffer. Life can't be repaid with another life, you just kill another person and now word losed two.
(And church saying the same! Every time to killing other and trying to justify it you spit at all love of God, his son and their love to you all all other beings. You creating a killer and loss. Nothing is more sacred than human life, killing other is just killing other, God may forgive it but trying to justify it while being believer and doing all against his forgiveness and love for humans ? Hell have a reason, for people who are blind to see the wrongful and harmful ways they went, who while having eyes and ears chose to be blind and deah to his teaching. People who do kill for revenge is in perfect definition for that. Hope they would see what wrongful way they go.)

  6. what a dysfunctional country you can't even trust the law everywhere else if you kill someone you will be arrested and shouldn't absolutely not be part of eu

  7. Communism collapse, it appears the anti-state. Usually in the hands of men that belong to criminal organizations. Another example is the sicilian Cosa Nostra or the calabrese Ndrangheta.

  8. This wouldn't be an issue if they had a justice system worth a damn. But i guess i can see how a life for a life, makes sense for the bereaved families. Who can quantify the loss for the ppl who loved the deceased most!?

  9. 1:48 Beside this sad story about blood revenge, example of Albanians stealing Serbian history beside Ðurađ Kastriot Skenderbeg is on this page at 1:48 stays Lenka Dukađin.

I can't stop wondering how big forces, Italy and Austro-ungary back than in 1912 give all to make Albania so Serbia doesn't have access to the Jadran sea…

  10. 90 years later they are still feuding 😂 that's ridiculous .what a waste of living your life . And I bet you don't feel much better once a completely innocent person 3 generations down is killed . pathetic they need to grow up and concentratepre on education and getting out of poverty

  11. This is what makes them and sicilians and men from sardinia and elsewhere the best organization for criminals. They place their own special form of honor above anything to the point where everyone knows what the outcome is for betrayal and its guaranteed. Nobody wants to open up that can of worms.
