Right, I’m at the Iron Man World Championships in Nice. And being the World Championships, we’ve got a ton of new tech, athlete innovation, brand innovation, you name it, it’s super exciting. I’m off to find it all. Come with me. [Music] Okay, there’s been a lot of noise this past week about Christian and Gustaf suits for the Iron Man World Championships. They’re surpass suits and I have got them right here. There actually two suits. They’ve been given two options. I’m going to start with this one on the table. This one is has got a lot of the technology from the Insane 3 suit. You can see that on the sleeves here. The main difference is the body. So, we’ve got this really lightweight mesh fabric which is really breathable. This is actually something that Gustav was pushing partly for thermorreulation, but also you see it’s got this closed zipper and this material is super stretchy. So it would give a lot more give sort of around the stomach area which is something that he was pushing for particularly when he’s on the bike. Really likes to sort of use his or breathe into his stomach. So there was that option. But the one you heard a lot of noise about is this one here. Now at first glance it looks like your normal suit. But actually if you look closer it’s got lots of little tiny pinhole prick 4,000 holes in fact which apparently a machine has done one by one. Now, as I say, first off, this was actually done for thermorr regulation, but actually an added bonus of this was aerodynamic properties. So, for Christian, they found a 9 watt aerodynamic saving with this suit on Gustav. Annoyingly, a 14 watt saving, but actually this is the suit that he was pushing for obviously for that sort of expandability through the stomach area. So, we’ll just have to wait and see which one Gustav wears on race day, but it sounds like Christian is going to be wearing this one. Now, these suits, obviously, they’re in development with the athletes, working closely with them. These are hopefully going to be coming later next year. So, watch this space. [Music] Right, I’m here now with Christian Hoganh’s race bike. This is the Quintanaroo VPRI. Uh, this was actually, well, released I guess a couple of years ago. Matt Hansen rode on it in 2023 here as well in Nice for the Iron Man World Championship. So whilst not a new bike, the finish on this bike really is and it’s quite interesting. It’s called a speed coat finish. Now Cortana wanted to shave as much weight as possible for this course given the profile of it for Matt and for Christian. But rather than leaving it raw um and unfinished or uncotated or unpainted, they decided to apply this quite special finish to it. So, actually, I’ve had a little bit of a lesson here. Apparently, if you do leave the carbon fiber completely exposed, it can degrade in the UV. Now, ways around this are maybe to get a special UV resin, uh, which will add weight. There’s complications around that. What they’ve done is very interesting electrostatic coating with a very, very fine coat of black paint. And that is just filling all those microscopic holes within the carbon fiber, giving it that bit of protection. And then after that, they’re then using a diamond polish and literally by hand buffing the surface of the frame to get it extra smooth and shaving another 150 g. So in total, apparently it’s around 350 g saved from your traditional paint to this finish, the speed coat paint, which I mean is pretty sizable for a course like this. Now don’t know if this is going to be commercially viable. Obviously at the moment they’re testing this with their pros and this is a really exciting opportunity with the athletes racing here. But of course the added benefit of this coating rather than leaving it raw is that they’ve said they found it actually to be a little bit more slick and aerodynamic at sort of slightly lower speeds. So yeah, pretty cool. I’m excited to see these guys race on it this weekend and I got to say it’s a really really nice finish. We got a brand new shoe from Hoka here. is the Mac X3. Now, this sits below the top of the range Rocket X3, which is their full carbon fiber plated shoe. This is, I guess, more of your fast training shoe. Maybe if you’re heading out to do tempo runs, or maybe you don’t want a full carbon fiber race shoe. So, what we got going on here? We’ve got two layers of payback foam. It’s very, very well cushioned. We’ve got a fiber plate running through it. It’s not carbon fiber. It’s made from paybacks. Uh, so it’s still going to give you a bit of spring, but it’s going to be a little bit more forgiving. Um, other notable updates, the midsole is also a little bit cuffed around the forefoot, so it’s going to make it a little bit more stable. Um, and then also the upper is kind of like a knit design, so it’s going to again hug that foot, but a little bit more breathable. And one final update, um, they apparently actually made the heel cup a little bit stiffer. Uh, apparently the X3 was quite supple. So if you’re doing a triathlon trying to get on transition, it made it quite difficult. So this actually cups the heel a little bit better and then we got this little kind of flared out bit so you can grip it as you’re pulling it on. This has actually got a 5 mil heel totoe drop. Uh, as I say, launched just this last week and it’s available for $190. Now for those that aren’t aware, Zoot is the brand behind the original triesuit. And when I say original, literally the first ever triuit. And this is actually it. It was made by Crystal Nyl back in the day. Um, I mean, it’s super cool, isn’t it? Uh, quite basic, I guess, in terms of technology. Um, but I guess innovative at the time. It was, as I say, the first triuit, so people didn’t have to start changing between clothes between each leg. Uh, the shammy though, um, it kind of just looks like a teacloth from your kitchen. Hate to know how that feels. But we’ve gone forwards quite a lot over the years. Um, and this is their brand new P1X triuit. I actually spotted Holly Lawrence and Sam Long racing in this recently. I wondered what is this suit? It looks super cool. Here it is. It’s just been released. Uh, we’ve got an ultra lightweight 3D weave through the body, which is obviously going to be super cool cuz it’s very lightweight. Uh, we got these aero sleeves like we’ve seen on many other brands. Sort of ribbed effect and precision cut sleeves. Um, in fact, the seams throughout all of this suit have been really refined and minimized uh for aerodynamics, but also for comfort obviously. Uh, also in terms of comfort, the shammy has been improved. Uh, they’ve made it very lightweight and also so it just dissipates the water nice and easy to reduce shafing, improve that comfort. But yeah, I mean, this suit is so light. And yeah, they’ve also in addition got their new Aero car sleeves to go with it. Right ahead of race day, we’re also getting a quick glimpse at some of the pro bikes. So, here I’ve got Sam Laidlo’s super lightweight Speed Max. Uh, now this is Canyon’s first triathlon raw paint job. I mean, when I say paint job, there is no paint job. There’s no paint on it, no lacquer. These are actually stickers on there. They’ve also got titanium bolts and various other weight saving methods throughout the bike. And in fact, saved around 1 and a half kilos throughout this entire bike. That comes down to things like these lightweight cranks. We’ve got this lightweight riser, titanium going up through and then this cover over it. All sorts of innovation. Um, and yeah, just a super slick setup, isn’t it? But I’ve actually done a deep dive on this bike, so stay tuned. It’ll be coming very soon. [Music] I popped by the Wo stand. This actually a relatively new brand. They’ve been shipping for the last few years. I’ve found their designs really interesting. I first spotted it on Rudy Vonberg’s bike, I believe, and a number of pros have actually been helping and testing behind the scenes since about 2018. And they got these really innovative saddles. So, they’ve got this almost like fairing like design coming off the back. And whilst there may be some arrow gains from that with a sort of laminina flow, actually the real purpose of this is around hydration and nutrition integration. So, how you store and carry stuff. Um, so you’ll see on the back of here we’ve got a couple of bolt holes. So obviously you’ll be able to attach some bottles or bottle brackets to that. They’ve actually gone a step further and they’ve got some very neat little designs and actually really simple but really well designed at the same time. So you got this bar that comes off the back that you can bolt straight down onto. Um and then two fossil cages. They’ve also developed these little elastics. But these are really simple. They’re designed really well. Um, I mean, first off, you can buy them like this, uh, with a little kind of attachment on the end, so you can literally bolt them straight down onto, uh, your setup. They’ve here actually on this bracket got them integrated in. Now, this bracket you can pick up for $70. They’ve actually also developed this new bottle cage for $35 with actually kind of like an oval like shape. So, if you’re picking up any slightly smaller bottles on raceourse, which I often are handing out, they’ll stay in this really well. Um, so yeah, really neat. I love this little setup. But we also need to talk about this brand new saddle. This is their V8 saddle. Uh, they’ve updated their previous saddle ever so slightly. So, they’ve added a little bit more support or bone support through the back here. So, they brought that cushioning in a little bit tighter. And as we go forwards towards the front, they’ve added a little bit more cushioning. So, it’s raised a tiny bit more here. And then it starts to drop off a little bit more towards the front. And I’ve also heard there’s another one, the MA in development at the moment. Unfortunately, we haven’t got it here, but watch this space. Right, pop by the Ruby stands who have basically every Iron Man and challenge course that you could dream of on their system. So, you can practice and wrecky their course ahead of race day, even if you haven’t actually been out to that destination beforehand. But, they’ve actually also got a little bit of a competition going on. So, they got the Iron Man World Championship course here and they’ve got a competition over the first 500 meters. Uh, so naturally, I’m going to give it a crack. Um, the the saddle height is a bit too low. I’m not really used to the gear setup and I’ve had quite a long day on my feet. Um, so I’m not really expecting that much. Just get all the excuses out now. Right. Should I do it? [Music] Right. I’m in second by apparently half a second. So, uh, might go and take a caffeine gel and we’ll come back in a bit. Okay, I’ve come by the Moana stand. They’ve got a brand new suit. It’s the V21 and it’s got that name because it took 21 iterations of the suit to get to this final product. Uh they actually recently went to the Winile Silverstone to test it and well the owners say it’s faster than the competitors. But the cool standout thing with this suit and a lot of their suits and designs is that you can customize these as a one-off, which is pretty cool. So you could go to a race, you have your name on it, you can do whatever design, go wild. And it takes around 40 to 45 days tops from design to your doorstep with that process. I mean, that’s pretty cool for a performance suit like this. All right, we’ve featured the new Ecoy PW8 pedal system on GTA quite a few times because it’s pretty revolutionary. I mean, we’re quite used to the standard sort of pedal systems. The PWA really has kind of ripped up the rule book a little bit. Uh, so first off, it’s quite a big pedal system. I don’t actually have it here. It essentially goes to sort of a figure eight system. Creates quite a big platform between your shoe and the pedal. Um, but I actually have the shoe that is specifically designed for those. It’s the C12 Pro Light here, and it’s actually got two cleat systems on this. So, you’ve got one up here, one down there. Uh, around seven grams for each of those. So, super lightweight, but they’re just tiny. And the pedal literally sits flush up against the shoe. Now, this is actually Rudy Vonberg’s shoe, so might catch him coming to pick this up soon. Uh the shoe itself has got this really ultra light sort of breathable mesh on the front here. Also, what I found quite cool is the grip on the back, and it is super grippy. Uh couple of B dials, but yeah, I can’t wait to see this more. Maybe even try out this PW8 system. This has actually just caught my eye. Uh it’s a watch crank arm setup. Uh they’re not actually here at the expo. This is just on someone’s actual bike. Um and I had heard about these. I just hadn’t seen them in person. It is a set of kind of performance crank arms. They’re nice and lightweight carbon fiber, but you can actually also adjust the crank length. So you can see down here just subtly there is like an insert like a little shim that you can change the length of this crank. And this one currently you can change from 160 to 175 in length. So it’s got a few different inserts. You can also flip them round and literally change that. So, a lot of the options out there where you can sort of change crank lengths are quite heavy alloy setups, whereas this is actually quite a lightweight carbon setup. Um, it’s slightly different in the fact that this then actually bolts onto a chain ring. So, we got the pyramid chain ring actually here that’s just sort of bolted onto nice cleanly. You got this carbon arrow cover. They do also apparently offer a 140 to 160 option as well. So, that would be a whole different setup. Um, but yeah, super cool. These are actually ridden by Dan Bigum himself. Uh, I actually just checked on their website cuz I’m quite interested myself. They’re currently sold out, but do a restock soon. £890 for the crank setup, which I know is quite a lot, but you can actually race on these as well. Okay, come by the Omus stand. Uh, many of you will be familiar with this brand already. We’ve seen on a lot of the pros with things like these visors with these interesting cubes. Uh now essentially these cubes are increasing the surface area of the skin by around five times. So when you throw water onto these the cooling effect is really quite significant and why we see in cone or any hot events so many of the pros wearing these. But you probably notice this interesting new product around the mannequin’s neck. Uh now this is their new neck cooling device. Yeah, it it looks interesting, but apparently a number of pros have actually come and picked this up already and have been testing it this week. We may see it on race day on a number of the pros. Now, what’s interesting here is that apparently 60% of the blood flow up to the brain passes through this area here and obviously the heat through that. Uh so by cooling that blood before it gets up here in combination with them could be really quite huge in terms of that cooling and thermore regulation effect. So yeah very very interesting. You saw it here first. We might see it on race day too. Okay. We’ve also got a couple of really exciting new releases from Roker. Now this is something you may have spotted already. The white swimskin. Uh Magnus Ditlev actually wore it last year. It was actually his idea. So based off of their X3 swim skin, which was a new and improved swim skin, uh more flexibility in it through the fabric, but also super fast, hydrophobic. And in testing, they say it’s saving at least a few seconds per 100 with many swimmers. They developed this white swim skin with him because he said he wanted something just to improve thermmorreulation whilst racing. Whether it really does anything or not, maybe it’s more psychological. We’re not sure. But they’ve actually taken it one step further. They’ve changed the fabric in this, too. So, it’s actually a slightly more densely woven uh material, but through that gives a little bit more structure um and support to the swimmer. So, it’s going to feel a tiny bit tighter when you wear it compared to this standard X3. It’s probably more better suited to your slightly more experienced swimmers or faster swimmers who looking for those finer margins. Um, but even just the materials they’ve used in certain parts will stretch better one way than the other. I mean, I thought swims were quite a simple design, but Roker have really kind of thrown the rule book out of the window. U, so yeah, we will see more pros racing this on race day. Plus, now obviously available to you guys, we’ve also got something else very exciting. It’s just landed. We also have a brand new suit from Roka. Actually, it’s not released just yet. is due in the next few weeks. It is the Pro Max and well, it’s a super cool looking suit. Now, the idea of this suit is it’s integrating a lot of top- end features from the X3 and also the Ordinary Pro, but with the Pro Max, we have added buoyancy to really lift you up in the water. So, these panels are a lot thicker than ordinary ones. And well, that’s quite an art to be honest to try and get that flexibility and all those top end features with these thicker panels. But yeah, taken quite a bit of development with them. We’ve also got a women’s one just here, which got to say looks super cool. Uh you might actually recognize this color. It’s very similar to one that Lucy’s been wearing recently. I’m afraid to say it’s not the same suit, but it’s part of the same sort of development. So there may be another suit coming soon. We just have to wait and see. But yeah, super cool. Coming in the next few weeks. Well, that’s it for the tech tour this year. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much tech has been out. I wasn’t sure there was going to be that much this year, but it’s been amazing. Let me know which is your favorite bit of tech in the comments section down below. Hope you enjoyed this year’s tech tour. I am buzzing for Sunday’s race. Also, let me know your predictions in the comment section down below. If you enjoyed today’s video, give a thumbs up. See you next time.

If you could try one piece of pro-level gear from the Ironman World Championships, what would it be?
Why don't they put the Glacier hat technology into one of these suits?!
MORE!!!
I would like to try out the cockpit on Sam Laidlow’s Speedmax.
Any word whether Canyon ever intends on releasing the angle/extension spacer and these cockpits? i imagine it would be a pretty penny, but they look amazing!
@gtn the neck cooler is interesting. I got issued them in Iraq, so I looked at it as part of my sport science degree afterwards. At the time (20 years ago mind) the evidence was that it actually just lowered the perception of heat, and was thus actually dangerous as the body would lower sweating thinking it was cool, but the core temp was actually still high.
Tunis
Wow. 4000 holes in the Surpas suit. Must be Beatles Fans! "I read the news today, oh boy / 4,000 holes in Blackburn Lancashire And though the holes were rather small They had to count them all Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall" Must be awesome!
wish the suits had the same rules as shoes, prototypes not used for racing? whats the deal eh
Y’all know those tri suits are probably 1k 😂😂
There is a race on Rouvy tomorrow morning – 9am uk covering the full ironman nice route and then a 2nd visit / race in the afternoon (forget if it is 14.00 or 16.00)
according to Rouvy the full bike route is 169.20 Km with 2495m of climbing . Max gradient of 20% but overall average of 0% . Final 50Km of so appears to be downhill and the steepest section starts at around 54Km in to the route.
Imagine finishing a race in the sun and having to explain the Omius tan lines around your neck 😂 There’s going to be so many questions, and you could have some real fun with the answers!
seeing this made me realize how expensive this sport is😭
Those custom Mauna kits 🎉
