What’s going on guys? Puppy Cycles here. Welcome back to the channel. Thank you guys for joining me today. We’re in Geneva, Switzerland. Going to be taking a ride over on the Europe side. Very excited to get my first ride in. Behind me is Lake Lamar. Looks really nice. Going to get a little bit of view and also it’s kind of cool cuz as you ride around the lake, you can actually go into France as well. So, we’ll see if we can do that and then come back around and see what else we can see. See you guys in a little bit. [Music] Today’s ride is the first of our European tour. Located in the most western part of Switzerland, Geneva is famous for finance and of course diplomacy. Swiss neutrality made it a fitting location for treaties and humanitarian organizations like the Red Cross. The first Geneva Convention was signed here in 1864, establishing the foundation of modern international humanitarian law, followed by others in the last 100 years. [Music] Switzerland is made up of 26 canton towns which are similar to states or provinces each with its own constitution and government. The lake is surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges including the Jura Mountains to the north and the Alps to the south. The first portion of this ride starts in the southern end of Lake Geneva. This lake is one of the largest in Europe with 60% of it in Switzerland and 40% in France. [Music] The highlight of this ride is stopping in France just across the border. One of the benefits of traveling Europe is a close proximity over some amazing places and countries. Near the border crossing, you’ll find the quaint town of Hermanance, a historic medieval village known for its prist setting, castle ruins, and great views of Lake Geneva. One thing that drew me back to Europe is the architecture and charm of small towns. It’s truly a feeling you can’t find anywhere else in the world. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Making our way back to the city, there’s one highlight that’s impossible to miss. The Jet Dough or Water Jet is one of the tallest fountains in the world. The original fountain built in 1886 helped to control and release the excess pressure of the local hydraulic plant. Even after the hydraulic network was decommissioned, the fountain remained as a popular symbol of the city. It was eventually relocated to its current location and upgraded to an impressive 140 m or 459 ft. You can certainly understand its popularity just by the enormous crowds in the area. Lake Geneva has so many great features and locations, but one of the most notable are the Lavau Vineyard Terraces. A UNESCO World Heritage site, not only famous for its beauty, but also its functional role in producing wine. Built by monks in the 11th century, the vineyards have been worked for generations by passionate wine makers. Using a phenomenon called the three sun effect, the intricate stone walls not only hold the soil, but also capture the sun’s warmth. This creates a unique microclimate that’s perfect for growing Telus grapes, which produce the region’s renowned white wines. Not only is this area amazing, but it also provides great views of the lake and the local community. [Music] This ride is manageable with no significant climbs or challenging environments. Any type of bicycle will do as you explore the area and enjoy the atmosphere. Like most of the cases in Europe, Geneva is a very bike friendly city with dedicated bike and shared traffic lanes. Local motorists maintain a high level of awareness ensuring the safety of everyone. This ride provides great locations with amazing scenery and local exploration. You’ll find quaint towns, history, and a laid-back community enjoying everything the Lake Geneva region has to offer. Thank you for watching the second video of this European series. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. We definitely have some more amazing rides on the way. See you soon. Be safe. Take care.
