I really enjoyed this one – just under 50 miles of rolling hills and beautiful villages. My journey took me to places such as Cuddington, Long Crendon, Wheatley, Cuddesdon, Great Milton, Great and Little Haseley, Sydenham and Haddenham.
Hello everyone. Today I’m going for a fairly long ride, 45 milesish. And uh I’ll be going from Elsbury to Wheatley and back. I’m starting at uh Ellbury Railway Station and that’s the uh Borgwalk Bridge that I’ll be going over and on my way through um uh Stone Cington and then out to Wheatley. So let’s get going. Before we get started, let’s have a quick look at the map. I’ll be using the cycle way to stone and the rest of the route will be mainly on minor roads, which means cycling through some truly beautiful places. So, grab yourself a cuper and let’s get started. So, any of you who watch my HS2 videos will recognize this bit. This is the A41 Oxford Road uh just out of Alsbury and I’ll be coming back this way later on there’s a lot of these around this morning. should be all right. These roads aren’t that narrow. So, here we are. Second village of the ride. Already been through stone. Not much to report there. But, uh, this is Cington. Heat. Heat. So, yes, Cuddington often the winner of Bucks best kept village for obvious reasons. It’s uh really nice here and the the pub behind me. Uh the Crown um run by a friend of mine from school. Uh we got Denise Hair and Beauty over there and uh Caddington stores which is open. There’s another one of these um big blooming tractor things. There’s a lot of these around this morning. Yeah, all Robert Tuckwell. I must have seen three or four of these this morning already. So, I better look out for them, eh? Right. Onwards to uh Cheersley, I think. So, as you can see from the sign, we are at Cheersley. as I come out of Cheersley. Struggling up the hillies. Just take the lane. over the railway bridge. So, as I leave Cheersley, come to a hidden dip before uh I go to Long Crenon. It’s been a while since I’ve been to Long Crenon. Last time I was there was on that uh 69 milei bike ride where I uh I took a wrong turning, ended up going almost to Oakley, adding so many miles to my journey and by the end of it I was absolutely knackered. I really took it out of me that one. I think mentally I was prepared for I don’t know between 50 and 60 miles, but uh all those wrong turnings and other things that happened on that ride were god just so tiring. Anyway, we just passed the uh village sign for longren. So, we’ll have a look at the village in a moment. Yeah. So, this was the point of my last ride down here where I uh went off down that road there for miles. Must have been about four or five miles before I realized I had to come all the way back to Long Crenon just to turn off and go in the direction I wanted to. But hopefully I’m not going to make that mistake today. Um the thing was on my Outdoor Active app, it showed um a previous uh map by someone else overlaid on it and I was following that. So uh at the moment we’ve got to go left down there past thatch cottage and throw a right down Frogmore Lane I think. So, let’s carry on. Go on. Look at these houses. This is where um the old manor is down here. Um, there’s a gate house. It’s just so pretty. So, this is Frogmore Lane, as I said, and uh through here is Long Crenon Mana. Absolutely beautiful, isn’t it? Apparently, you can stay there and uh they do weddings and things. Such beautiful places, aren’t they? Frogmore Lane. Look at all these. And all the buildings now are starting to turn into stone uh as we get closer to the Cotsworlds. So, where am I going next? Where’s the next stop? The next stop is Chappington. So, I’ll see you there. So, here we are at Shappington. Make my way through here. It’s an Uber as I enter Worming. Weekly three. Well, there’s nothing much to see at or uh Worming. Um I’m just passing Water Perry now and soon I’ll be uh going over the M40 and uh Wheatly is not far away. So when I get there, I’ll be effectively uh on my way home. My mileage is 16 and a half. And here is the M40. There we go. Wave everyone. I hear war weed. It’s only about 2 miles away now. blind me. Where now? Just a guess. [Music] And I think must be down here. King’s Arms. Do you know this all looks familiar? Cuz this is on the bus route. Um, the Elsbury Toxford bus comes through here, I’m sure. What was the 280? I remember going past that pub. Ooh. I have no idea where I am. I’m following my map. So, that was Wheatly. So, now I’m on my way to uh Great Milton and Great Hazley. Uh should be some really pretty places between Wheatley and there. So, it’s about to get uh very Cotsworld all of a sudden. I’m looking forward to it. Look at that view. I’m just about to get to uh Cudston where there’s a lovely mill and see right across to the Chilton Hills over there. Beautiful. Oh, look at this. What’s going on here? Wow. It’s a place, isn’t it? Ripen College, Cudston. Surprised to see it’s such a small village. Uh where am I going now? Uh yeah, we’re going down here. Well, I probably could have gone through there. Great Milton. Little Milton. Yeah, I could have gone through there, but that car’s gone through. There we go. Lovely. Very careful. There we are. Look, see for miles, miles and miles. It’s a long windy road this one. And he did thank me. Let him on his way. Right. All right. So, this leads to Cudston Mill. So, we’re about to see something rather beautiful. What do you think of this? Oh, why isn’t the sun out? Yeah, Kudston Mill. What a beautiful place. So peaceful as well. Why hasn’t the sun come out? I was looking forward to seeing that in the bright sunshine. So, it’s got the date on the the side of the building there. 1852 or something, I think. Looks a lot older, doesn’t it? Because of the um the stone. Right. Where to next? Uh Great Milton, I think, and Great Hazley. Uh then on my way back from there. Well, this is Great Milton. Look at these lovely cottages. Eh, aren’t they beautiful? On my way to Great Hazley next, so uh we’ll see what that’s like. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. These are all very nice, aren’t they? Great. Hazley. Heat. So tame’s only 5 milesi away. Beautiful. But better in the sunshine. Where’s the sunshine? So, that was Great Milton and Great Hazley. Very nice, weren’t they? Pretty places. So, now I’m on my way to uh Little Hazley. This uh narrow country road, not far now. been quite a easy ride really. Um, not many uh steep hills. There have been some hills, but they’re not uh really punishing ones, you know what I mean? Where’s the sun? Sort of ruined my ride there as I thought it was going to be. Beautiful. There we go. You get what you get, don’t you? Right. Little Hazley. Look at this place. Little Hazley chocolate box. What a place to live, eh? Damn. All right, bride away time. Always a bit of an unknown with bridal ways like this. Well, I’ve gone off road now. Um, just out of uh Little Hazley. Those cottages were beautiful, weren’t they? Damn, these these places are so amazing. So, yeah, I’m in the middle of a field following a bridal way. It’s a sort of a shortcut along the countryside. So, uh I think I’ve probably got about a mile to go. and I’ll come out onto a road. So, let’s uh let’s get on with it. I knew it was an unknown, but blime me. Look at this. Well, at least I can say I haven’t been this way before and I won’t be coming here again. This is crazy. Oh, thank God for that. A road. A road. Hello, Sidnham. What time is it? 11:42. Not bad. Got about 10 miles to go. Just over. Yeah, that’s about right. 35 done. I said it was a 45, didn’t I? 45 46. Very nice. Church reminds me of Ilma. Ah, pub. What a lovely setting. Sidnham Church. So, where am I going now? I don’t know. I’m just following my map. Um, Towersy. Okay. past time Kingsy then Hadenham. Yeah, very nice. Might have me lunch in Hadenham. Going to sit by the uh the pond if I can find it. Yeah, that’d be nice. So, here I am in Hadenham. I’ve just had my lunch sitting here by the village pond. Perfect weather. very tranquil. Just what you need Saturday afternoon. I mean, look at this. This this scenery. Look at it. You know, absolutely beautiful. No wonder it’s been used so many times in film and TV. Midsummer Murders, I think, as well, was it? Sort of a few years ago. So, I think the next time you’ll see me, I’ll uh I’ll be back at Alsbury. Padnham’s only about five miles away. So yeah, got to brave that Portway Road now. I hope the traffic’s kind to me. So uh let’s get on with it, eh? Well, here I am again at uh A48 Road as I was this morning. Oh dear, that wind’s really picked up. So, what’s my mileage? About 47 and a half, but uh I did go into Aden. So, I did add a little bit, but yeah. A couple of miles to go before I get actually home. So, I shall sign off here. Hope you’ve enjoyed this uh ride today. I certainly have. It’s been beautiful in places. So, thanks for watching. I’ll see you in the next one. Bye for now.

Comment for the YouTube algorithm god
Tractors are enormous compared to how they were in the 1970s.
I sometimes rode to work in Thame on part of your reverse journey – brings back some nice memories of the scenery – not so much of the bugs that were sometimes swallowed 😊
