I want to build a new bike from a MTB frame. I’ve done this in the past, but only with steel and just cut and welded the dropouts to horizontal track style ones. This has worked so far (and I like the idea). However the frame I’ve got my eyes on is an Aluminum frame – which I cannot weld.
So far my reasearch is narrowed down to a few options:

  • use some sketchy and shitty looking screw on dropout adaptors (I don’t really want to as I don’t like the look and it also kinda gives me the creeps)
    Like those: https://www.sellutionmtb.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MC%2DDR01

  • use an eccentric BB (kinda hard to find or unreasonably expensive (all my builds are more or less parts bin builds); maybe someone can point me towards something)

  • use this thing called magic gears (if I understand the idea correctly you figure out the perfect length for your chain and play around with different chainrings and cogs and when the chain gets to slack you just take out on link)

Any other ideas? Which option would you suggest?
