Hi,
To make a long story short: I have a vintage Olmo Competition (circa 1980) bike that is mostly period correct, except a previous owner placed modern aero rims on a vintage campagnolo record hub. The modern rims are 622.
I purchased a vintage pair of Mavic G40s that I measured to be 630mm (outer diameter). I would like to switch the modern rims with the period correct Mavic G40s, but use the same same hubs + same freewheel. The attached pic shows the current bike with aero wheels + one of the 2 Mavic G40 rims I’d like to use.
I appreciate that I will need newer spokes and I will have the wheels built by a wheel builder. I also believe that I will not be able to use the existing tires on the Mavic rim.
Q: will there be any problems with the fit in my bike afterwards? I understand that the diameter of the wheel (with tire) will be slightly bigger, but I believe it should fit, and hopefully the gearing on my bike will not be affected.
Thoughts??
