I’m taking a fresh look at the Engwe L20 Boost. A new red colour way, different locations, is it just a lumper or is it more than that? Commuter ebike? Shopping ebike? Off-road ebike or all of these things?

Let’s find out.

Right then we’re heading into leads Today [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] So, I’ve already reviewed this bike. Well, this model bike, not this color. And I guess you’re all sick of seeing the same old videos because that’s the route I test the bikes on. So, I thought I’d sort of like put these bikes in different environments where you could see them being ridden around like a town and in the countryside. So, that’s why we’re heading into Leeds today. As you can see, the cycle paths coming into Leads. Cycle paths, they’re brilliant. They really are good. Um, you can’t really knock them. Leadeds has got a really good infrastructure for cycling. Long may it stay that way. [Music] Do you know when before I got one of these L20s ab I really hated them. I really didn’t like them as a bike. I thought they looked a bit I don’t know, a bit like what you expect every ebike to look like. Just a little bit mundane. But I get it now. I get it. I understand why it looks this way, why it looks utilitarian. It just works. It works really well. Well, I don’t know if you saw the video I did about 18 months ago about it before I actually got one as a windup. In fact, I’ll put it in here now. [Music] That’s what I thought about this design. But everybody kept saying it’s a brilliant bike. It’s a brilliant bike. And you really can’t ignore that, can you? People are saying what a brilliant bike it is. There must be something to it. Yeah, I like this bike a lot. But you wait until they see the color of this when we get into Leeds. We’ll do some filming and I’ll show you this new color way, this new red. And it’s absolutely gorgeous. [Music] Yes. Boom. Here we go. Heading into Leeds city center into the into the heart of Leeds. As you can see, all this cycle way stuff we got here is just ideal. And this starts miles out of the center of leads from all directions. It works really, really well. I love it. Look at that. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] [Music] Yeah, riding through leads nowadays is just This is why I can’t understand why these delivery riders can’t get it right. Everything’s here in place for him. So, well done, mate. Let’s get past the peace barriers. And you’ve seen me film me before, you you’ll know that that building at the end of the road there, it says blacks in. I used to work there. Weather or Hollis and Gale. My first ever job. And I enjoyed it. It was uh it was something a little bit different. People keep asking me when I’m riding around London in city centers and stuff, is it dangerous? And no. No. No, it’s not. You know, that’s what these bikes are built for. I’m trying to prove that the R20 Boost is well, it can be used as a commuter bike. It can be used to go off road. It can be used to go get your shopping. Can be used to do most things to be fair. It’s a really, really good bike. Like I said, I took the mick out of it for so long. And to be fair, I don’t know why. Well, now I don’t know why, but yeah. Leadeds has a lot of cool factor to it. It really does. You know, growing up here, getting to come into Leeds on a on a on a Saturday used to be such great fun. You come out on a Saturday, you go buy some new jeans and a new top and you go out Saturday night. But nowadays, you buy your clothes online and you don’t bother leaving leaving the house, which is for me, it’s a bit of a waste of life. So these are easy to get on the train as well. That’s the other thing. Doing a quick hop from Weightfield into into Leads is a dodle. You know, you get to just jump on the train, bring your bike with you, hop off the other end, and you get to see so much. So yeah, you’ve seen me up on a train with one of these before and it’s great. You just get in into leads on the train, York, wherever you want to go and you get to go on little adventures for pretty much low cost really. Train prices, if you get them right, are quite cheap. I mean that time I went into London. I think there and back and coming back it was first class and they put me in first class on the way there because the bike alarm kept going off on the bike I was testing. It was 80 quid weightfield down into London. Why wouldn’t you? Leeds has got some great architecture. Really has. I mean, there’s museum there and then some monstrous looking weather spoons. I mean, look at that. It’s always looked this good. Even when I was younger in my teens, it’s always looked this good. I mean, even the Brotherton wing over there, the hospital, the art deco look it’s got to it. It fits. It fits with that, but it doesn’t fit with shite like that over there. It’s planted right in re at the rear of the town hall which is a stunning build in its own right. I love leads. It was a big part of my my youth growing up here. Let’s go have a mooch. See what else we can see. I see Jim Jeffris is coming to Leads in November. If you’ve not seen him on Netflix, he’s well worth a look. Modern leads is still as much fun as I remember it being. Really is. It’s just it’s not changed that much. There’s all swaves of leaves that you can have a mooch around. I mean, look at that big glass monstrosity there. Where are we? We’re allowed. Nothing like this. We’re here. Some big ones over there. Yeah. Going around leads on days like this. I got a clue what he’s saying. There’s work going on everywhere and every time I come into Le there’s new work going on. These are so nippy. Such a nimble bike. You know, you got all that. I mean, I can virtually turn this virtually round onto its facing itself. Go down bigger lane. Over the years, they’ve really sort of wouldn’t say gentrified it, but they’ve improved it a lot. I mean, this this used to be really poor down here. It was all secondhand shops. It was like guitars and anything else you wanted to buy used, keyboards, knives. Leads market coming up on my left. But that’s sort of died to death over the years because of supermarkets. But yeah, leaves market they have cleaned up, but there a lot you can do with it on the inside. We’re coming up to uh the Corn Exchange, which is one of my favorite buildings in Leeds. If you’ve never been to Leeds, it’s a must visit. It really is a must visit. Yeah, it’s always been one of my favorite buildings and all this has been all done over the years. But yeah, I digress. This bike’s as good as I remember it being. It’s just uh it’s a joy to ride around on. As we come down here onto uh onto Bar Lane. Bar Lane. When I was a kid, this was all shops along here. This was again, this was all closed shops. This was all closed shops, secondhand shops. This where everybody used to come on a Saturday first and then head up into the center of town. But yeah, I mean, yeah, the the roads coming into leads are set up for cycles from virtually every angle. So with that, you can get yourself into leads commuting wise. 10 miles out, 10 miles back, still not really put any much pressure on the battery cuz most of it’s flat coming in anyway. It’s only when you get to the outskirts that it starts going up into hills and stuff, but most of leads towards the center’s flat. Over the years, I’ve seen this all pop up. I mean, this is an original building over here, but these are all new cuz all the bus stops used to be here going back to Pudsy where I I lived. And this used to be it’s an O’Neal’s now, but it used to be the conservatory. Really good night. No, really good bar nightclub. So yeah, as you can see, getting into leads isn’t a problem on a on an ebike and an ebike like this. It’s just it’s a dole. It’s a really nice thing to be riding round on. I think it’s fab this point. Oh, sorry. Go from there down first row now. and then back to the truck cuz we’re going somewhere else. The whole idea about today is show this in different environments. So, as an around town toy, this is fab. It works really well with the torque sensor, the boost button. That boost button’s brilliant. Well, I haven’t had to use it around town because it’s all flat. Using it does sort of have a go at the battery a bit. But yeah. Yeah. I’m I’m a big fan of this bike. I’m a big fan of the boost button. if you didn’t know, come up with the idea a couple of years ago and sort of I think Enuway Nick, well, Enuway have admitted they nicked the idea off of my page. But I’m just glad somebody ran with it. It just works. Bit pro for you. And that was like oh good 9 months before the bike come out. And they’re throwing a boost button on everything now. And yeah, with good reason. I’ve just popped onto it now and it just takes you up to the legal limit quite quickly. When you’re nipping round town or places like this, it’s something you really need. [Music] Going across the river now. [Music] You want to pull out on me cuz I really need that. I said you pop that boost button and you’re away. What’s not to love about that? [Music] [Music] These They’re just fun days out. They really are. They’re just fun days out. You can just go off and just go see things you haven’t seen for a while. It’s like putting on for me coming into Le is like putting on a pair of comfortable slippers. It’s always felt that way. You know, even when I’ve lived elsewhere and I’ve I’ve come home cuz I I call it home. I know I weren’t born here, but I call it home. This is home to me. And I really really do love it here. Let’s go have a look at some else that are faster for example than a moped and yet if you want to ride a bike but they’re not ebikes they’re emotos but if if you if you ride a 50 cc bike you’ve got to get it legal and I think that if you had to insure it and tax it and all the rest of it that would go a long Hey, but what about these? Well, I don’t know. Cuz they’re slower than they’re slower than a normal bike. Yeah. All the pedal does is it pedal assists you. Yeah. So, it’s not like there’s no throttle on it. And they I mean, I see these have a go of it. Have a look at it. Um, so what it is, I’ve got it impact. There’s this I designed and they took the ID on which is at the boost button. So, if you just kill on it, just have a go of it. Yeah. And you’ll see what I mean by when you pedal it. So, if you push that boost button while you set off, which is there, right, and start pedaling, that just brings it automatic, does it? Well, it does it anyway, but that just gives it a bit more boost. So, if you hit that button now. Ah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. [Music] [Applause] You see, to me, this is a proper ebike, but the ones the ones that we’re talking about are emotos are completely different, are they? I mean, they’re they’re called e- motorbikes, so they call them emotos. So, they’re not they’re not technically an ebike. But, can you see how well that assists? Well, I tell you something. If you uh let’s say having to commute or getting sick of your buses or trains or whatever, it’s ideal, is it? I reckon that’s and leads is set up for for for bikes going into town cuz I’ve just been filming down in Leeds. Yeah. Yeah. So, we come somewhere else. We’re out on the Yorkshire Moors. This is Ilkley. Ilkley Moore B Tat. And I’ve been asked by somebody on one of the Facebook groups about what these things like going uphill. Well, if you watch my original review, they’re brilliant. They really are brilliant at going uphill. That boost button, it’s worth the price of admission. It really is. There’s nothing like it. It just really gives you all that extra torque you need. He’s bouncing around. I mean, these don’t need rear suspension. They really don’t. Rear suspension on one of these is just a bit of a waste of time. [Music] This is going to be a nasty hill to come back up. [Music] Really is going to be a nasty hill to get back up this. But we’re we’re stopping off up here now. You may have seen this place in pictures before. It’s quite a photo photogenic spot and it’s right at the top of Elkley. But yeah, let’s grab a mooch up here. They don’t want you up here on bikes, so I’m not going to I’m not even going to bother. But yeah, look at that. We used to come up here when we were younger looking for magic mushrooms. I don’t know if that sort of thing still goes on, but yeah, this is the entrance to Oakley Mall. [Music] Heat. Hey, Heat. [Music] [Music] [Music] Get up here. You used to be able to all around here when I was younger. It used to be magic mushrooms. We used to uh come up here in the summer early hours of the morning and go have a hunt for magic mushrooms. Something different. [Applause] But yeah, look at that view. That’s all down there. So, this is quite a steep hill. As I say, somebody in the comments said, “Good can show this bike getting up hills.” And yeah, not a problem. I’m actually in seventh gear using the boost button. I’m just having no problems getting up here. None whatsoever. might be picking up some wind noise. Got new mics, the DJ Mic 3. I’m also finally getting round to using the Action Osmo Action 5 Pro and the 360 camera is the new Osmo 360. So yeah, and this is Oakley Moore. [Music] And there we are back to the truck. me. We’re back. Yeah. If we’re in about rear suspension, um that’s a 27 some mm. So, you’ll want a 27.2 mm seat post. So, you can get a suspension seat post. You’ll have to buy a seat. Um but well, actually, no, you don’t. You can take that one off. So you can use the seat that’s on there and just get a suspension seat post if you’re not bothe bothered about sort of having to take the saddle off if you’re not bothered about having to pull the seat post out if you want to take the battery out to charge it. But most people charge them in the bikes anyway so it’s an irrelevance. I reckon 3/4 you still charge them in the bike. Anyway, weather’s turned a bit shitty here. Just a closeup of that color. But I love it. It seems to change color in different lights. It’s virtually black in the dark, but it’s such a nice color. You know, the video doesn’t really do it justice. Right. When you first get your bike, the the brakes are never actually set up properly. It’s very rare that they are. You’ve got two H hall. You got two Allen heads here. These were a bit tight, actually. So, they do send you some tools that you can do this with, but they’re uh they’re not long enough to get enough torque on these to do the job properly. So, let’s loosen these off a touch. Just a touch. So they’re away from the uh they’re loose enough to move around a bit. There you go. That’s enough. Look. So you can see a move. You can see the brake caliper actually moving. So we come up here. So after you’ve loosened the caliper off, you come up here and you pull the brake t. I just usually use an elastic band like this. So it’s just tight enough. Then you come back down and then you retighten these hex head screws until Don’t overtighten them. They just need to be tight so they bite. There we go. It’s always a good idea to have a longer set of Allen keys because you get a bit more torque on them. The smaller ones, you can’t get enough torque on them. So, once you’ve done that, come back up here, take the elastic band off, and then there you go. What we’ve done there is we’ve aligned the brake pads to the disc. And to bed them in, what you do there is you ride around and gently squeeze the brakes until locked 10 15 times. And that should take the shine off the pads and bed your brakes in. Job done. Let’s talk about the color of this bike cuz it tends to change color. And at the moment because it’s dark and about to rain, it looks like a really deep wine color. But yesterday when I was up in Illey, it went like an orangey red. And while I was in Leeds, when it was really sunny, it was a different color altogether again. So yeah, it’s my favorite color of this bike. It’s well put together. you know, my original review. I’ll put in the link in the description. I’ll also add it at the end of this video. But it’s just a cracking little bike. It’s everything you’ll need. It’s got comes with a front rack, rear rack, fenders. You know, like the only let down is the mechanical brakes, but it doesn’t break my anything that goes over 20 mph. At this weight, it should have hydraulics cuz this one’s legal. You can unlock it and go. Well, you could unlock it. I don’t know if the newer ones you can unlock. I mean, my my argument about this lock unlock thing and whether it’s illegal or not. Why would you buy two ebikes? Why don’t you just have one ebike and then unlock it when you’re in a position to be riding it around where it can be unlocked? The law’s stupid. Make the law do the work, not your conscience. And if you’re not riding round like an idiot, they’ll leave you alone anyway. Yeah, I grew to love these bikes. Um, for the obvious reason, they’re just step through, easy to get on, get off. You know, they embarrass these higher bikes. Those higher bikes that they have in the center of Le, the Braven bikes and in Manchester, the Burnham bikes, they’re just shite. They really are. But these are just fabulous. And you know, for what they cost, I think at the moment they’re 1,099 quid with my discount code. That could be bringing it down near a grand, maybe even less. So, discount code in the description. Hope you enjoyed the video. If you did like, send me a like. If you really liked it, subscribe. I do loads of things like this. Have a look at my back catalog. Always appreciate new subscribers and a like helps with the algor al and a like helps with the algorithm. So else we get this video out there more. Have a nice day everyone.

  1. You can buy a suspension seat post with a seat on l got one for a Fido C11 was extremely comfortable.
Great video you had an excellent day for it, the City and countryside looked sharp and stunning.
Not a fan of the fish eye though, looks weird and not in a good way lol.
Magic Mushrooms abound in my local churchyard ( no longer used for burials ) an old wiccan woman ( l called her a hippy which she denied and declared herself a wiccan of white magic and put a curse on me for being cheeky lol ). She asked me to destroy them in a few years after she passed to stop folk being harmed by them she gave me an example of a lad who had freaked out at the things he had seen and was still mentally ill 20 years on, its odd because the lad she was on about was my cousin on my mothers side, he has agrophobia and psychotic episodes where he screams he sees some kind of goblins that leer and beckon to him grinning evilly and threatening him thru his bedroom window, he's 45 now aint been out the house in 19 years, has been sanctioned to stay in instead of being put in a care home, he is seemingly normal for a few hours each day but if he relaxes while he's talking suddenly his attention will wander he will stare at the window with a horrified expresssion on his face and often before we can get to him he begins shaking and screeaming about the faces that elongate then shrink, sometimes he will see them on the faces of people like me who've known him all his life, he's only a danger to himself, has been ordered to take meds, which help to a point but eventually he will see the horrible faces.
So l wack away the mushrooms and squash them up into a muddy mess, l had noticed squirrels and hedgehogs eating them and certain birds, the hedgehogs would be out in day time looking for them and sometime later on a warm days night fall or the next day you could find them dead totally dehydrated, once after observing two grey squirrels eating them they ran amok in the trees going berserk and began pelting each other with small plums that grow in there, they even threw some aat me, which is odd because l thought the shrooms had to be dried out first to have an effect.
I have seen birds and rabbits drunk on fermented fruit from crab apples, wild plums and pears.
Its a strange world the old wiccans been dead 12 years now. Said she was 97 when l met her, she looked 30 years younger maybe shhe was a witch, she must have been 103 when she snuffed it if she really had been 97. I once asked her if she knew a way of making my wife look 20 years younger she said yes, drink whisky heavily.. Lol
