After finishing my train journey, I set off towards Ferry Meadows, one of the largest and most loved country parks in the region. Just a short hop—less than three miles from Peterborough—the park felt like stepping into another world. Wide-open meadows stretched into the distance, lakes shimmered in the afternoon light, and winding woodland paths invited me to slow down and explore.
I wandered along scenic trails, watching cyclists pass by and families enjoying picnics on the grass. On the water, kayakers and paddleboarders skimmed across the surface, while others sat patiently with fishing rods, waiting for a quiet tug on the line. After soaking in the calm beauty of the park, I stopped for a moment of rest at one of the cafés, where the smell of fresh tea and cakes drifted into the air.
Eventually, I made my way back into Peterborough’s city centre. To my surprise, I stumbled upon live rock music spilling into the streets. A crowd had gathered—dancing, laughing, and tucking into street food while the band played. I didn’t catch the name of the event, but the atmosphere was infectious, and it felt like the whole city was celebrating together.
Before heading home, I took a short ride along the river, looping gently around the city centre as the evening light softened over the rooftops. With the music still echoing faintly behind me, I finally arrived at the train station—content, a little tired, and carrying the memory of a day that had felt both adventurous and unexpectedly joyful.
