Why are pro Palestine demonstrations grabbing all the headlines at this cycling race in Spain? Protesters have been popping up along this year’s Welka Espa route and causing major disruptions. The demonstrators want the Israel Premier Tech team kicked out of the race. The team is owned by Canadian Israeli billionaire Silvin Adams, who in turn is a vocal supporter of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Leading scholars and human rights groups have called Israel’s actions in Gaza a genocide, charges Israel has repeatedly denied. Adams has said his writers will not be excluded and called the protesters terrorists. Spain along with Ireland and Norway recognized Palestine as a state last year and Spain’s foreign minister has even come out saying he would be in favor of having the team removed. For now, Israel Premier Techch is still racing in modified jerseys which no longer feature the word Israel.
