Day 4 of our bikepacking journey across Austria took us on the longest ride so far — just over 100 km, as we followed the flow of the Danube River from the Enns region all the way toward Melk.
We left the hills behind and entered the open plains, riding through one quiet village after another. For most of the day, we followed riverside bike paths and peaceful country roads. The elevation was minimal, making the distance feel smooth and enjoyable despite the long hours in the saddle.
This day was all about rhythm — long, flat stretches, tailwinds through fields, and the steady hum of tires on perfect tarmac. We passed farms, forests, and small churches nestled into the land, and for long moments, it felt like we had all of Austria to ourselves.
By the time we neared Melk, the Danube was shining in the golden afternoon light, and the fatigue from 100 km melted into satisfaction. Day 4 was a true endurance day — but a beautiful one.
