A few weeks ago the Brompton website listed a g line electric handlebar assist. It then quickly vanished. So I thought I'd just do another search to see if there was any news. The USA version of the Brompton site now fully list the g line as coming with a handlebar mounted assist as standard and it's even listed as a main selling point. But so far here, there is silence on the UK site and from UK Brompton.

I'm frustrated that as a UK company and as a G line electric owner (I pre ordered at first launch) that there seems to be no urgency or priority to get this launched in the UK. It's also frustrating that it didn't launch with the bike for us here and if it even does launch here, it will likely be a fairly expensive gadget. That kinda sucks. If I was buying a g line right now I would be doubly annoyed to see this coming as standard on the American ones and not here. Or buying only to see it released here shortly after.

This kind of thing leaves a slightly bitter taste, as it feels a bit like the UK customer base are the test mice who invest in the new bike, for overseas customers getting a better deal.

However, I am eager to see if it does release here, as I would really like a handlebar controller for the assist. I don't like using my phone for that. And something like this really should have come with the bike in the first place.

Has anybody heard anything a out it launching here in the UK.

  1. I’m assuming the hardware requirements are different over there?

Does the US version have a throttle?

EBike rules are different in the US, so what works there could be illegal here. And I’m guessing the time taken to get something certified is slower and more rigorous here too.

Brompton continue to forget about where their bikes originated from, they continue doing way more special edition bikes and accessories for markets outside of England and if the British G line doesn’t start coming with the controller that’s another kick in the teeth for British consumers and a clear demonstration Brompton care more about overseas markets than they do their own here in England.
