Cycling to Monmouth, hopping in the van to The Tumble, and catching the pros at the summit finish of Stage 5 of the Tour of Britain — an unforgettable day on two (and four) wheels!
I rode from home to Monmouth to catch the Tour there, before meeting up with Tom and jumping in the van to head to The Tumble – the epic summit finish for Stage 5 of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men 2025 (Pontypool → The Tumble).
We parked up, tackled a short but beautiful hill climb to the finish line, and were greeted by an electric crowd atmosphere. The tension, the cheering — absolutely magical.
🚴♂️ Race Highlights
* Remco Evenepoel powered to victory.
* Huge cheers for the legend Geraint Thomas back on home turf in Wales.
After the race, it was an epic descent back to the van, buzzing with adrenaline and good vibes.

Hello everybody. I hope you’re all well. I’m a bit hot and sweaty currently. I’m out on um Old-Fashioned just making my way along Red Brook Road into Monmouth for the men’s tour of Britain. Just having a little breather. Then I’ll have to get back on it or um I’ll be late. It is stage five. Pontipool to the tumble. And um I’m going to meet Tom in Monmouth. He’s driven down to park nearby. He has got his bike with him as well. He’s going to cycle from there to Monmouth cuz the plan is to catch them going by in Monmouth and then hop in the van and drive across country to the tumble to hopefully catch them when they go over the finish line. Right back on it. I’ve just got into Monmouth. Just making my way across to where um they’re going to be coming past. I’ll be going through the town over the Mono Bridge and out the other side. I’ve um I’ve actually just been past Tom. He’s stuck in traffic. It’s a jam. It’s absolutely chocker. So, I don’t know if he’s going to make it. Here we go. Just heading over the bridge over the mono. It’s busy. There’s lots of people here. Looks like I made it just in time. I don’t think Tom’s going to make it here though because he was stuck in traffic. So, it’s very busy. And uh yeah, they should be coming through this way. This is going to be a good spot, I think. Um they’re due through at like about 52, but they could be early. So, um this stuff Oh, yeah. I know you’re carrying a lot there. And these guys are going to zip right up those hills. Oh, yeah. They will do. Yeah, they’ll be like zoom. And I was like this. So these are are these the pros like the big guys? Uh yeah, there’s um Garrett Thomas is coming. Mention I don’t know cycling as much. It’s his last um professional road race and then yeah that’s it for him. So um yeah it’s sort of a celebration of his career really this one. Here they come. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] That’s great. Here we go. Woo! [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the whole 15 seconds. Yeah, that’s it. Yeah, I know. Hi, I’m Terry from Canada. I’m on my way from Lanzen to Jonno Gros. Maybe make her today. We’ll see how it goes. That’s going to be great. We just um met here because we we’ve been watching the Tour of Britain stage five, haven’t we? So um we sure have and I’m I’m going to get going now so I can chase him down and see if I catch up. Cool. Well, best of luck to you. And um yeah, thank you. Thank you. Nice meeting you. You too. Bye. Tom’s here now. But missed it. You did. That was such a shame. It was like a flash and they were gone though. So, I think we’ll have like a better chance of seeing them if we go to the tumble. Just met some really lovely people. I just met Terry um who you’ve probably just seen on his way from L’s End Jon. And I just met Alan who was here with his wife Kate. So, yeah, he he watches my YouTube videos. So, that was really cool. Right, off we go then. Find the car again. Yeah, we’re just having a snack. We found a spot about three miles away, three and a half miles is it to park up because we’ve just been told um that the end of this road is shut, I think. So, we’re just going to chill out, have something to eat, and then hop on the bikes and make our way the rest of the way up to the tumble. You have no idea how steep this is. Barely. I don’t know. Hope it is. Do you want to check bit of a climb? Look at that. Gorgeous. I think we still got a bit more climbing to do. Not right at the top yet. It’ll be fun on the way back down, though. Wow. I have loads of layers on and I’m boiling, but anticipating it being chilly once we get to the top. Wow, this is a nice road along here. Very nearly there. I’ve um I got Tom’s backpack on to give him a bit of a rest. It’s quite heavy. It’s got all his camera gear in it. Hello. It’s a bit windy up here. All right, made it to the top. We just need to go find a good spot down on the road now. Should we carry on down there? Down to the road. Yeah. Right. Okay. Let’s go find us a spot. This is why we love Wales. Such a beautiful country now to the base of the total final ascent on the two leaders. There is a ferocious scramble in the pelaton to bring forward the leaders. Check fighting for all he is worth. So many bikes everywhere. We’ve made it to the tunnel. We found a spot. We’re just waiting for them to come through. Come on then, Wales. Now, let’s show them. Woohoo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Wow. [Music] Heat. Wow. Three left. Wat incredible sound. What are you one of our Woo! Woo! Woo! [Music] I know Heat. Heat. Woo! Woo! That was awesome. That was so cool. I really enjoyed that. I’m so glad we came across here. I hope you got some good photos. Probably not. That was so cool. Right. Well, now we’ve got a nice descent back down to the van. Yeah, I’m quite looking forward to that. It’ll be a bit windy going down there, I reckon. What a place to end this stage. Absolutely gorgeous. There’s no way I’m going to be able to film the descent. It’s too windy. This is so much fun. I wish I could have filmed that bit back there. That was great. Back at the van. That was really fun. That descent was so cool, wasn’t it? I really enjoyed that. We had our own little pelaton on the way down as well. Right. Well, I think I’m going to end the video here. We might as well call it a day, haven’t we? Because there’s not going to be anything else exciting happening. We’re just going to drive home. So, thank you very much for watching. I hope you enjoyed this video and hopefully we’ll see you next time. Maybe just me, maybe both of us. Who knows? Bye. Very good.
