Fun fact. Chambord has an amazing double helix staircase, designed by Leonardo da Vinci. When je had to leave Italy, he was invited to live in France by François 1e. He brought with him the now famous Mona Lisa, that the French king decided to buy.
DaVinci lives in château du Clos Lucé, that you should visit too. Lots of recreations of da Vinci's engineering inventions there. And he is burried in château d'Amboise. Magnificent too.
The Loire valley has so many castles. Totally worth spending a few days there
