  1. For Dutch people Drenthe is traditionally a destination to go cycling . Thats why it caters to bycicles and tourism so well. It;s not overly touristic but it has the stuff you need for a a domestic vacation. Nature, landmarks, pretty towns, places to sleep and to eat and interesting places to visit.

  2. As someone who has lived in Groningen their whole life, I find it amazing that you've been there.
I also bike in my free time, I've done bike rides with over 100km.
The countryside up north is also amazing, lots of rural places.
And yes, the station was under construction.
It's still in construction, but a few tracks have already been opened.
When I had to use the train to get to Utrecht last week, but it's a bit too modern for me.
It's still nice, it really needed a makeover.

  3. Two things:
    1. When you cycle on roads, leave some space to your right hand side for emergencies. If you think of a car, you should be on the road right in the middle between the driver and the passenger. That’s where you want to cycle. This also slows down oncoming traffic more than when riding right next to the ditch.
    2. If you like offroad cycling, then you could also opt for the TNNZ route from Groningen to Limburg. Unmarked and there’s no description anywhere. The GPX-tracks which are available in public, are ‘non-original’. The original can be obtained, but you will have to put in the effort.

    Safe and happy cycling!

  4. When you were in Hardenberg, you probably would have noticed the massive yellow building that's in the city's center. It's their municipality building and officially the ugliest building in the Netherlands

  5. We were convinced your hint from last episode related to the small fietsveer (ferry) just south of Hardenberg. There is no operator, the biker presses the go button and the ferry pulls itself towards the other side. There is supposed to be one near Zwolle where you have to cranck it by hand too. Tip for you next visit, from fietsveer to fietsveer.

  6. About the cycle paths in Drenth. You make the hidden assumption that cycle paths are luxury and additional cost. But every cyclist on the path, gives less wear and tear on the road. Isn't it just saving money?

  7. Just a quick note, Maastricht doesn't have a cathedral. Maastricht falls under the Diocese of Roermond, where the cathedral is also located.

  8. 06:07 This right here is what grinds my gears. I have been living here for over 2 decades , but people be walking on the wrong side. Many many many near collisions because i could not see them because a biker infront of me suddenly swipes to left or swerves to left. If there is justice , that should be a criminal offence . I understand many rules may not apply but for feck sake walk the right way this isn't UK. In here the walkers are cyclists from the USA.

  9. The Canadian geese in NL are actually pretty chill, even when they've got chicks. It's swans that are the biggest assholes here.

Excellent video once again, thank you very much! If you ever make it to Zwolle I'd be more than happy to take you across the Northern Veluwe and/or the Vechtdal. I don't even have a driving license, just two electric bicycles and an OV-chip card 😀

  10. Walked half of the Pieterpad with a group of scouts fully equiped a couple of years ago, it was amazing seeing our own country by foot and gave me a new appreciation of my own country i would recommend cycling or walking at least a part of it to anyone who is able.
