British four-time Tour de France winning cyclist Chris Froome was airlifted to hospital following a “serious” crash in training.

A statement posted from Froome’s official X account says he did not suffer any head injuries but scans revealed he has a fracture in his lower back, a collapsed lung and five broken ribs.

The 40-year-old is in a stable condition and is set to have surgery for his back injury later today, the statement says.

  1. So, that is pretty much the end of his career. His contract with Israel Premier Tech is up this year. He was not likely to be resigned or signed to race a bike by anyone, and he has not had a good result since probably 2019. Done. The reality is that he probably should have retired in 2021. He had tried to return after his 2019 crash, and by the end of 2021, it was pretty clear he was not winning another grand tour.

    I would wish him well, enjoy retirement, enjoy your money, heal well, and well, that is about it. I was never really a fan, but he has not been relevant ofr a while. Good luck to him.
