Pogačar is on the attack! But there’s something different about the way he’s doing it this season — he seems to be staying seated during all his early accelerations. Is that a deliberate tactic? Is there a scientific reason for it? And is it something we should be copying? We speak to Jeroen Swart from UAE and Jayco-AlUla coach Peter Leo to find out! 💪

LACTATE SHUTTLINGGGG
And yet again, 20 years after Armstrong is everyone trying to find "scientific" explanations for Pogacar's (let's be honest) impossible actions. It's the seating ! It's the nutrition ! He has better professors in physiology and aerodynamics guiding him than all the other teams in the peloton ! I heard the same BS in the years of Armstrong winning. In 10 years we will find out his secret.
I’ve been seated climbing for years. I’ve never understood why people think standing up with their bike shaking around behind them would be faster. They are actually just giving into the pain. Remain seated and stable and you aren’t shedding energy “wagging your tail”
I think it’s all about the right posture and comfort in your cadence. Got a tall cyclist, standing on the paddle means excessive bending on the backbone. It would be very stressful to keep doing out of saddle cadence for the many stages in the TDF race.
seated since I cannot last more than 10 seconds on the pedals! hahaha
Please don’t confuse mass and weight
Hedgehog day. It was the other way around when Lance was faster than Ulle
I’m amazed by how Tadej still look like his seated very forward on his saddle even on steep climbs. He maximized the use of his weight and centre of gravity even when seated. Perhaps you can even produce better torque around dead spots in this forward position.
As a friend of A world class endurance racer, Jim Elliott I accompanied in The Race Across America. I drove in shifts and almost always drove 2 AM to 6 AM shift. Any way, Jim rode 90 to 120 cadence most of the way across America
That’s called PEDs.
Generally if I have to stand up on a climb, I'm probably close to unclipping so it's moreso to see how much further I can get before I get off vs fall over. I'm not terribly good at standing and cycling. I vastly vastly prefer to take hills seated though (that and I don't take a terrible amount of hills because I don't find them as fun)
A pro athlete doing something unusual is never unintentional. He's lying, but why is he lying?
I would have loved to hear about if there’s anything that would be helpful for anyone trying understand this topic on what pogacar has said about that he loves reading very long hours at zone 2 because from my understanding you would be able to ride faster with a lower heart rate and have more watts with less stress = more the needed strength to hammer out a attack? With ease So if you’re not training in that area to start you would run into trouble and then have to force yourself to ride putting pressure on the knee like the man said
I carry a thules charriot with my kids nd its way better when i am siting . Even more on gravel
Staying seated is more efficient. Standing is like turning on the afterburner, yeah more power but burns energy much faster and is less efficient. Stand strategically yes, but don’t rely on out of the saddle efforts frequently.
Didn’t watch the whole video but did anyone mention anything about the shorter crankarm’s 🤔
in MTB seated attack nearly 100% of the time
I absolutely LOVE this! i have always been a seated accelerator! especially on climbs. Love that there's good science behind it. i TOLD YOU SO!
Great content
I've been doing this for years. Im sure he must've seen me.
Alez Pogi! We are fortunate to be able to watch such a generational talent.
I've been noticing this for years now…I can give you 2 complete opposite examples. Carapaz and Almeida! Carapaz is always OUT off the saddle and Almeida is always ON the saddle.
Marco Pantani listens from heaven 🙂. Very interesting thank you!
I never stand up on climbs, it kills my legs and I see no benefit. The only time I stand is when I want to stretch my legs after long time in the saddle.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a level playing field. Thats sport and monetary gain i guess. Even short cranks went through the roof. Cevelo went through the roof. Its economics and sadly not who's strongest. Look at Contador would he have been great seated? If drugs give you the advantage and it's not accpetable why is having different equipment? Look at all those strange bike changes in the tours past…I think there is a possibility cycling loses the heart of what it was and just becomes scientific, equipment based and bonus seconds…all very dry. Watching Henauit gives you shivers…Watching seated Pogacer does not.
To be honest I would rather get out on my bike and see for myself which is best rather than listen to this typical drawn out GCN bullshit
