Day 2 of our bikepacking journey from Salzburg to Vienna took us from the calm shores of Attersee to the dramatic beauty of Traunsee, one of Austria’s most stunning alpine lakes.
Although the ride was shorter — about 32 km — it was full of scenic variety. We started with quiet lakeside roads along Attersee, surrounded by blue water and rolling green hills, then gradually climbed through peaceful forests and rural paths. The roads were smooth, the traffic was minimal, and the views just kept getting better.
As we crossed into the Salzkammergut’s inner valleys, the landscape began to shift. The lush hills gave way to rocky outcrops, and in the final stretch, the mountains opened up to reveal Traunsee, with its deep blue water framed by steep alpine cliffs. It felt like arriving in a postcard.
