Sir Keir Starmer is under pressure as Labour-run councils consider legal action against migrant hotels, following a key High Court ruling in Epping.
Epping Forest Council, run by Conservatives, won an injunction to remove asylum seekers from the Bell Hotel, which had sparked protests and police clashes.
Now Wirral and Tamworth councils are exploring similar action. Wirral leader Paula Basnett said the Home Office had imposed asylum hotels without consultation, breaching planning rules and upsetting communities.
Tamworth’s leader, Carol Dean, said the Epping case could set a precedent and confirmed her council is reviewing its legal options.
Both councils stress they support refugees but oppose “unsuitable, short-term” arrangements that bypass local decision-making.
