The Château de Chambord, the “jewel of the French Renaissance” is an architectural marvel. With over 400 rooms and 77 staircases, it was a colossal undertaking commissioned by King Francis I in the 16th century. We delves into its revolutionary design, believed to be influenced by Leonardo da Vinci, and explore the immense challenges faced by the 1,800 workmen, from building on marshy terrain and transporting 220,000 tons of stone, to constructing the iconic double-helix staircase. We will learn about the staggering costs, the unexpected modifications demanded by the king, and how the château served as a hiding place for priceless artworks during WWII. Five centuries later, modern technology helps uncover its secrets, revealing the genius that made Chambord a timeless masterpiece and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

  1. It’s amazing in real life. Most is closed to the public. You can access the rooftop though, and the views are absolutely breathtaking

  2. so thousands of engineers just come to the king and built is for him? or everyone that liven in the surrounding towns that lived in wooden huts' were engineers?

  3. Yes ! How did they actually build this ? I thought we were in carts and horses ? I don’t believe it , ahhh… no floor plans… how many times was there a fire ? Having to be fixed ? I don’t believe we can build something like this now , that would actually last for years. This is from the old world, where all massive castle types and towers, were ( founded) then claimed. What of all the old world buildings that are still standing today ? Huge gigantic Roman type ?

  4. 11:56 Swastika. So as a "fractal" form…🤷‍♂. Maybe beauty starts from the beginning 🤷‍♂… Be interesting to walk those kingly steps here🤔. Maybe from Kings vantage point you might spot something else 💁‍♂.
