    New Town became Old Town – La Bastide Saint-Louis in Carcassonne



    If you are into shopping, architecture or people watching from luxury terraces? This is for you.
    Back in the middle ages, a new Carcassonne was built on the left bank of the river Aude and is called the Bastide Saint-Louis. Most visitors focus on the old citadel, they don’t notice the imposing gates across the old bridge to this fascinating area that’s rich in history, architecture, cafés and restaurants, shops and markets.
    I went on a day that most shops where closed to have the whole place to myself. But take it from me, on every other day you will find it packed!

      How refreshing in a tourist town to still have days when everything is closed and people relax! I am so happy that in Europe, everyone can enjoy leisure days like that.

      Beautiful walk with you today. As you said a quirky place but a very balanced mixture of old and new architecture. A very pretty place. You always find bridges 😂. Would love to see your home town one day . Here in Thessaloniki there is also a problem with graffiti 😢 What is wrong with kids today. Thank you for a very relaxed,enjoyable tour. Have a good week 😊

      I love our old towns in Europe lol My son is the same so we know what kind of town we wanna live close to. I a notarie from France speak about the deals of buying houses in France. It takes 3 month….almost never goes faster 🤢 Yours should be done now or very soon . Now I wait a week….. 🙄😛🤣 Take care of You😘

      I was glad everything was closed for the holiday and you were kindly able to show us the beautiful streets. Some of the buildings were just spectacular, but it was sad to see bars on lower windows of a lot of them. The taller buildings were very fine and grand and reminiscent of Paris. Thank you so much. I hope you found your car more easily than you expected!
