I'm looking to pick up a Marin Presidio 3 for my ~6km (each way) commute. Looking for something I could use down to -10C or so, with as little maintenance as possible.
The two concerns I have with it is the usability of the gear hub during the winter (less efficient due to the oil getting cold), and the bike only taking up to 40-45mm wide tires. Preferably I would mount the widest Schwalbe marathon winters on for the winter which are 50mm, but those won't fit. I would have to use 42mm without the fenders, or 35mm with the fenders.
First time commuter and winter rider so I'm not sure exactly if this would be a good solution or not for my situation. Any advice (even completely different options!) is appreciated!
