A challenging ride in places with some deep ruts and a few steep hill climbs to get the heart working but this ride will take you far from the madding crowd and the craziness of mankind.

  1. What a lovely exploration of many places and many subjects Sandy.
If we dip our finger into the sea, we are actually dipping it into all (the connected) seas of the world in much the same way that all the land masses are a part of the earth's crust and all the peoples of the world are cousins, even if many times removed, something that gets forgotten all too easily.
I was toying with the word 'Velocipede' and wondering if 'Philosipede' could describe your trusty steed/adventures but sadly (or happily) it would mean 'One who loves on foot' rather than one who thinks on wheels….Oh well, I tried.
I am looking forward to a cycle ride in search of Lower Lowham! 😉

  2. Hi Sandy, another nice video, of England's green and pleasant land. Great to see you out on your bicycle. Nice lanes you rode on. Some steep hills on this post, good job, you are fit. Good range of low gears on your bike. All my bikes are two by,apart from my Gient Trance emtb. Hope Mandy is progressing with her health. Great that you include lots of history in your videos. I'm now getting more miles in on my bicycles. Do miss the English country side. Have some great trails here in Victoria. I'm 15 kms from Port Phillip Bay. Have the Dandenong Creek trail, and can cycle all the way to the City of Melbourne 40kms. Also 5kms away is Lysterfield Lake, which has an mtb track that hosted the Commweath games. Maybe down the track you will get an electric bike, Sandy. Thanks for making interesting videos. Look after yourself, allth best Tim ❤.

  3. Your knowlege of the Wiltshire tracks and byways is excellent. We watched this video on our big telly and it was a real treat to see our beautiful countryside. Thank you. Like the flag too.

  4. Fantastic stuff, love the Union Jack in the corner of the screen, I love that flag, I’m told it’s only the Union Jack when it’s at sea but I was always brought up calling it the Union Jack, that’s what I call it anyway, best wishes to you and family as always 👍🏻🇬🇧❤️

  5. 🌳Wonderful Video Sandy, love the history lesson, great countryside, just love to hear you talk about our past and our heritage and admire your discretion and correctness about the things that are happening today, I'm not sure the old days were that bad after all ? Regards, Colin.

  6. One of your most reflective videos Sandy, had a melancholic feel but also uplifting at the same time. One of your best. I know the area & those tracks well but never tire of riding them or seeing others ride them. Hope all is well, Gavin (the chap you met in Avebury recently) 👋

  7. Nice to see you to see you nice again sandy back out on your bike nice to get away for a short time on the bike and relax little bit of history good video plenty of people about were you are enjoying there self's remember to stay safe one life enjoy blessed be

  8. Wonderful ride Sandy, I am going to pop down from Stroud with my MTB on the train to Swindon and ride your route, I checked the cornfield and it looks like the best route is not to turn left into the field but carry on into Aldbourne then turn left into Back Lane, round passed the excellent church then left up Crooked Corner then fork left up the bridleway – thats the bridleway you took after climbing over the fence.

  9. Lovely bike ride, some beautiful countryside, loved the barrow's, you can almost feel those ancient people that lived & died so long ago.

I often think the world of 3 or 400 years ago would have been a very silent place excepting the wild life, no traffic, planes or trains , without all the lights of the modern age the night sky would have been magnificent.

I was astounded to see a clear sky at night when I travelled a overnight bus across Afghanistan almost 50 years ago, the milky way is a very thick cluster of stars that runs across the sky which we can't see here on account of light pollution, which is a great pity. I will always remember that.

  10. I am Wiltshire born, Wiltshire breed, definitely thick in the head (Stratford Sub Castle). Now living within the Southdowns National Park, the downland is an area that fills me with an energy and I feel a deep connection to this landscape, that I don't feel anywhere else but up in the beautiful rolling countryside, and beech woodlands. I just ride there to recharge.

People who litter like that are scum. I can not get my head around why people would drive out to somewhere so beautiful to throw rubbish out of car windows.

  11. Brilliant commentary, the land belongs to God, super, it's what hunan beings do with it that makes the Story, and thats anywhere, good luck Sandy.

  12. Sad story about Snap redolent of the Highland clearances, and that remnant stone put there to stop the carts catching the side of the cottage is kind of academic and an ironic memento that progress demolished it instead

  13. I recently tracked one my family lines all the way back to the 1600s. For centuries my ancestors lived within roughly a 20 mile radius in the north Cotswolds. The small village, where my parents still live, has been in existence from around 800-900AD, the church (the original part) has been standing since the 12th century. In many ways it's amazing how so many people just overlook or ignore the depth of history that surrounds them in Britain.

  14. Loving the atmosphere, time literally flew by and this video felt like just 10 minutes. Best regards from Sweden, where there are fewer madding crowds in general, though cities anywhere in the world are always crazy. I live in a rural area and sometimes miss the freedom of being able to bike everywhere in a city. Now I have to drive everywhere, but it’s worth it not having to see crazy stressed city people all the time. We do get loads of tourists in the summer though, hordes of Germans who invade the land quite literally. Every other car or campervan you see has German plates. But now that most of the holiday season is over, it’s finally peaceful and quiet here again. It's like living in the past here, everything feels like old Sweden with traditional rituals and more conservative people in general, but that's what Sweden is supposed to be like.

  15. What a great video certainly not an easy ride. Brilliant information about things we know nothing about, thanks for taking us along, look forward to the next time 🚴🚴

  16. Great video Sandy you captured Britain at its best I know this ride would have done you good it did me good just to watch it nature is natural medicine to us and a lovely bit of history too. Many thanks Sandy my very best to you both regards Shap.

  17. Made in England! Thankyou so much for posting, I know the Marlborough to Swindon road very well from when I lived in Devizes for a year or two. Great to be reminded of how beautiful the countryside is in England, far too good to give up easily. So good to see you getting out on your bike, its holding up well and you dont hang about!

  18. Pleased to see the favourable comments about the flag. Although holding a British passport I see myself more as a citizen of the world.
The UK is a lovely place as long as you find somewhere away from people. Even then you see thoughtless actions and litter or graffiti done by yobs with zero artistic skills, why????
Looking at you crossing the motorway on the curly worly bridge I wonder where all that traffic is going to.
    Thanks for the video.
