I found this locally on marketplace for $20. The seller said her grandparents were restoring it before they passed away. Everything but the rear derailleur and pedals is original

I found the catalog from 1983 here: https://vintagecannondale.com/year/1983/1983S.pdf

I'm planning to replace the 27" wheels with a set of 700c from my '89 Schwinn Prelude, I hear it's hard to get 27" tires nowadays. I'd like to get bar-end shifters for it, since it already has downtube cable stops, and I'm going to need replacement shifters anyway. I hope to put a set of fenders and a rear rack on it and use it as a sort of commuter bike, and occasionally for much longer rides.

Questions:

How good or bad is the Suntour XC derailleur? I have a Suntour Edge from the '89 Prelude that I might swap in if it's an improvement.

Is this actually a ST-500? I read that if there aren't lowrider rack mounts on the fork that means it's a SR-500, but I'm not sure.
