Welcome to PedalICELAND — a solo bikepacking adventure across one of the most rugged and breathtaking landscapes on Earth.

I’m riding a fully loaded bike, her name is Alev, around Iceland’s legendary Ring Road and west fjords, mainly camping in a tent, with a camera, and a desire to explore.

Day 5 – Stykkishólmur to Þingeyri
I started the day in the camp of Stykkishólmur, and I went to the port to get the Baldur ferry to reach Flókalundur. Rainy and a little windy weather were waiting for me, I climbed a mountain with an elevation of 820, then visited the magnificent Dynjandi waterfall, and after that, passed through a 5.6 km long Dýrafjarðargöng tunnel to reach out Þingeyri.

PedalICELAND’e hoş geldiniz — dünyanın en engebeli ve nefes kesici manzaralarından birinde tek başına bisikletle seyahat etme macerası.

Alev isimli bisikletimle, İzlanda’nın efsanevi Ring Road ve batı fiyortlarında pedalliyorum, çoğunlukla çadırda kamp yapıyorum, yanımda sadece kameram ve keşfetme arzum var.

Iceland, where ice and fire meet in the North Atlantic Ocean. It’s just me and my bike, Alev. Hello from day 5. I’m leaving the Stykkishólmur camp and heading for the ferry. There’s an open café there, some coffee and we’ll see whatever I can find to eat. Stykkishólmur is a charming Icelandic town located on the Snæfellsnes peninsula in western Iceland. This town of 1,200 people is a natural harbor due to its location. Therefore, most of the population earns their living through fishing. Today, I will take the Baldur Ferry from Stykkishólmur Port, cross the Breiðafjörður sea route, and arrive in Flókalundur. Then, I plan to cycle 66 kilometers to Þingeyri using my bike. So, as of today, I will have entered the West Fjords region from the West Iceland region. I have planned my route to go around the island. There are two main options for this. To go clockwise or counterclockwise. For several reasons, I chose to go clockwise. First, an Icelandic meteorologist wrote an article stating that moving clockwise would provide a 55% better wind advantage. Second, the western fjords and the north are much more rugged than the south. Therefore, I want to tackle this more challenging section with fresh energy. Thirdly, and most importantly, many of the places I want to see and spend more time in are in the east and southeast. For this reason, after the western fjords, I plan to travel north by bus to Akureyri and Mytvan, and then travel west and south by bicycle back to Keflavik. Yes, I arrived in Flókalundur A slightly windy and rainy weather awaits me I have 63 km to go. Nothing hits the wheel! Yeah. Þingeyri is 57 km away, and the first 15 km are uphill. I’m talking about a steep uphill climb. I must have to push hard. The temperature dropped as I climbed the mountains. It’s about 3 degrees right now. The temperature difference between here and down below is 8 degrees. Yes, friends, I’ve arrived at the Dynjandi waterfall. I wanted to stop by here by changing my route a little. It’s really fascinating. Also known as Fjallfoss, the Dynjandi Waterfall, with a total height of 100 meters, the largest waterfall in the Westfjords. Leaving the Dynjandi Waterfall, which I never wanted to leave, I continue toward Þingeyri through the 5.6 km long Dýrafjarðargöng Tunnel. Yes, I have reached the campsite in Þingeyri. They have set up a campsite in the empty area behind the town’s sports hall. Right behind the campsite. The seaside. There’s a very strange bird here. There was an ATARI game like You were flying a plane and When you flew over the FUEL, you got gas The bird is making a sound that refueling an effect on ATARI game. I’ll go through here tomorrow. This is the campsite kitchen. There’s electricity here. Now I’ll charge my batteries and stuff. There are three tables inside. I put the bag on one of them. The rain has stopped. That… I’ll inflate the sleeping mat too. That’ll get it out of my head. Then I’ll sit there and… spend some time. then I’ll go to bed. Sooo fifth day… Finitto!
