Hi folks,

There seemed to some conflicting information on the web about whether Mount Diablo State Park (Bay Area, California) actually has official Hike and Bike campsites.

Hopefully this info below will help clarify things.

This info is from State Parks as of Aug 18, 2025:

"We do have one official hike and bike campsite at Mount Diablo. It is located at the Junction Campground- intersection of North Gate, South Gate and Summit Roads. The hike and bike site is number 3. The nightly fee is $5.00 per person, with a two-night maximum stay, and a maximum 10-day stay per year at the same park unit. The hike and bike is a “communal” site, but we rarely have anyone using it, so chances are you will be camping by yourself. The campsite can’t be reserved in advance- first-come, first-served.

Although the Junction Campground doesn’t have showers, hike and bike campers can use the showers at Juniper Campground or Live Oak Campground for no charge. Depending on availability, we may be able to allow hike and bike camping at Live Oak and Juniper. I have found that most bicyclists get to the Junction Ranger Station and don’t want to ride the 2.25 miles/ 1,000’ in elevation to Juniper.

The hike and bike campsites are not intended for park visitors who park a motor vehicle at Mitchell Canyon or Macedo Ranch and hike to a campground.
