The second part of Series 3 sees the Cyclers take on another stretch of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal having covered the terrain between Burnley and one of the ends at Leeds previously.
The Summer holiday feel seemed to be missing from this one but makes for good viewing, albeit quite different.
the words of the heita LJ heren the heat is on the race is on off the cuff Journey Back along the canal from Manchester Road in Burnley going the other way haven’t got a ticket yet suggested to Marcus we meet at our usual time of 9:30 in the morning but instead we’re aiming for 1:00 and they’re going to try and get to Wigan so I’m going to race Marcus to Burnley [Music] okay just come up to Blackburn this train good job I got the earli one my took the TR did not come into the platform on time for turn rounds I still get there at 1248 which beats marg’s time of arrival of one 28 so see you later am still here at Manchester Vic this 1204 train has been cancelled so let’s go and see what’s happening with that one to this chap at Burnley oh BL bur how we going to Burley next stop know like we meant to this time we didn’t last time Marcus have found a couple of guys to go ahead they set out for Le at 7:00 this morning they’re going all the way to Liverpool so putting things into perspective getting to Burnley getting from Burnley to Wigan shouldn’t be too bad it’s 39 miles we’ve just come past that little Gano little boat where we realized we gone the wrong way last time onwards forward our Pace set has just fallen off before this bridge we we’ve got 30 mil to go we’ve done 10 miles already from Burnley these guys have still got 65 to go is it or something like that okay bigal B is broken off but I’ve still got minees up some stairs and this marks 63 and an e miles oh while you’re there while you’re there3 34 it’s a little weeny DVD extras right DVD extras we’re exactly half the way along the canal same distance leads as it is to Liverpool please found you know we’re about rib calling who who an now rib rib Chester rib Chester are we near there now H it’s somewhere near Blackburn but it’s the other way yeah Chester there you go rip Chester onward sewer we’re ahead of the people that are off to Liverpool they stopped off at the halfway mark 63 and E miles I maintain I think just before we got to the halfway the train was quite bumpy Nick marus nearly fell off and you can hear something from behind [Music] [Music] yeah [Music] [Music] pass as I was passing under under a tunnel the the cobblestones are a bit bumpy I’m vicious dog bit me in the on the thigh on on the back of the thigh not pleasant apparently if I have rung my bell it would have been a bit better for me apparently would have been all right yeah yeah probally crept up on the dog and bite out on my leg as a result so uh yeah fair warning any big dogs go up quietly ouch H Marcus is having an easier time of things further up the canal burn now bit of [Music] rain bit of wood in there Uncle coming off as well me move got a flat tire think there’s some confusion as to where Marcus is cuz he says he’s at the he’s past the top lock which means he’s about 13 miles further than me I’m going on previous performances even though I had the phone call with my bank and with the is it still doesn’t quite compute of course bitten by a dog so I’ve been a bit slow because of that and now I’ve got a flat tire so I can change this and put the new inner tube in and and crack on yeah I’m not going to get this done very quickly so it’s going to be embarrassing how slow I change it of sand baskets across resurfacing part of the canal not a moment too soon they must have used a b barge to drop them off loads of them I keep moving forward in the rain we’ve got about 49 miles to go to Liverpool but 14 until Wigan which is where we are I think Marcus is probably already in wigging but I’m still not sure still a bit disputable where he actually is so Marcus tells me he’s in Pub number two the kirkless hold Pub I’ve had to stop and readjust cuz my orange bag is consistently falling off the The pener Rack I should have just brought the pener bags probably I’ve taken my Poncho off and I put my empty water bottle in my bag and broken in the tube just TR to fill it out a bit so it it stays firm so I’m going to crack on give Marcus a call find out exactly how many miles he’s got in I haven’t seen a sign for a long time and it’s so slippy I’ll point that out as well really is and these P Pebbles are uh not ideal to ride on even though with these thick tires in the wet weather and and I fell off I was coming as I came over the bridge and turned left I just felt myself going slipped I grabbed hold of the railing to try and minimize the impact so I kind of still cut my leg leg again that’s two cuts on the same leg don’t know what that is but yeah this is not for the fainthearted these um poor guys going all the way to Liverpool tonight at least Marcus has G on the cheeky vimto and is having a break now and I’m looking forward to that because I’ve got a can in my bit bag I might even have that cuz it’s been a real TD time uh and just playing catchup as well it’s unusual for me to play catchup with Marcus but he’s he’s doing well for himself so it’s not really particularly Scenic around here but uh yeah the canal and uh don’t know if I’ve pass the top lock Pub I’m coming up to it and coming up to about 47 miles surely but the kgas Hall Pub is where I’m going next see how it goes over okay things are looking a bit better now the streets paved and we’ve got past the uh top uh lock and the kirky’s pub so pushing on forward assume I didn’t turn left there the canal seemed to go off uh to the side it did actually turned to the right when we got to the top lock okay let’s see what Marcus wants shouldn’t be too far behind him now there we go it’s chucking it down still probably even more so now but I made it in all its glow here we have Wigan Pier so now to Wigan Central is it a pub who knows but safely go home now and we’ve done made a very good time considering especially Marcus but it’s quter to 8 and last trains back home to the whe are not till about 930 so Wigan Pier there we have it next time we’ll be going forward from Wigan Pier scratch on him wig Central uh station which isn’t a station just like Wan Pier isn’t on a pier well that’s what it’s called well it was a pi we saw it I saw it well deserv [Music] try so we um we we came across some cyclists I don’t know whether ry’s video probably did video probably so uh yeah um we had how this started we had a little bit of Munch and I I overtook Andy I was like I’m going to keep going and um I I overtook these guys twice um but then I got a little bit ahead of where we originally planning to go to anyway um so then what was the first Pub you stopped that called um well that one you mentioned that look like it was closed oh so you didn’t go in it you went into CT Le did you go somewhere before that no no but the one the one you mentioned it look like it was I did yeah the top so is this your second thought you went somewhere else this is the third one oh yeah it went somewhere else and then yeah so this this is the third this is the third um yeah did you go to the navigation na no I didn’t go to that one didn’t you navigated yourself past it yeah no I did go to I went to m i trailed off just before went to wiger Trail off got back on and then wig and pier and then that’s where I got a bit confusing because the uh the canal kind of goes into like kind of three ways um W Pier stops off there then um one way it heads towards Lee yeah pretty sure I got the right way where we going the end onwards toward Liverpool passive here been a good been a good outing yeah great SC the moment outing next stop is going to be maybe EAS different trains now Marcus is getting on the London Houston to crew my train hopefully will stop at Mery side got about 20 minutes to wait that was a good raspberry slush puppy and a fi tell [Music] marus being led to get his bike in the special reservation spot hi you will go stting [Music] stop [Music] [Music] [Music]
