Welcome to Day 8 of our 11-day cycling adventure along the Danube River! 🚴
Today’s ride covers 88.4 km as we cycle from Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava, into northwestern Hungary, arriving in the historic city of Győr.
Our day began with a challenge: navigating out of Bratislava and trying to reconnect with the EuroVelo 6. Google Maps directions didn’t cooperate, and we spent nearly an hour detouring and backtracking before finally finding the route again.
Once back on track, we followed the Danube’s winding path through rural Slovakia, passing through small villages, open farmland, and tranquil stretches of countryside. We crossed the border into Hungary—our fourth country on this journey—and continued toward Győr, a vibrant city rich with Baroque architecture and cultural charm.
We arrived at Hotel Garzon Plaza in Győr for a well-earned rest after a long day of riding. Before ending the video, we included a Google Earth Studio flyover of Széchenyi Square and the beautiful Benedictine Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola in the heart of Győr’s old town.
This journey is part of our full 11-day, 773 km ride from Passau to Budapest, cycling across Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary.

📄 Description:
Welcome to Day 9 of our 11-day cycling adventure along the Danube River! 🚴
Today’s ride covers a gentle 43.8 km as we cycle from Győr to Komárom, Hungary—a shorter, more relaxed day after yesterday’s long journey.
We started the day with clear skies and a smooth departure from Győr. Midway through the ride, we stopped at Leo Pékség, a charming local bakery, for a well-earned coffee and a look at their mouthwatering display of croissants and Hungarian pastries.
The route followed peaceful rural roads, offering scenic views of the Hungarian countryside. We arrived in Komárom by early afternoon and checked into Aranytál Panzió, our hotel for the night. In the evening, we strolled around town, explored some of its historic buildings, and visited the bridge connecting Komárom to its Slovakian twin city, Komárno. The day ended with a cozy dinner back at the hotel.
This journey is part of our full 11-day, 773 km ride from Passau to Budapest, cycling across Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary.
