We enter country number 5 – Croatia. We cycle to a small town (Ogulin) to catch a train into Rijeka. Flooding in the area has changed our plans and a lot of the paths/roads we had planned to cycle are now under water. However, it was such a new adventure taking the train anywho! We also achieve a new milestone – cycling 2,000km!

we’re Lauren and scottt and we are cycling 10,000 km across Europe starting in Greece the plan is to cycle to the West Coast of Ireland passing through 15 countries we cycle through some of the most magical Landscapes Europe has to offer so join us on our first ever Bike Tour as we learn to navigate the European cycling networks encounter all weather conditions and overindulge in our favorite baked goods mine’s so crunchy where are we where 3 Cas from slange no hold on we’re in Croatia ah yes we are in Croatia double done we’ve passed we’re officially in Croatia officially now in shenen yep and our time is ticking time tiing 77 days we have left in the shangan today we’re headed for where Ro Jaa we’re going to go to ogland and catch train through r r yeah the route we’re going to take um Scott was saying ear that that that mountain range is forecasted over 90 Ms which is false but still you don’t know it would have been cold and wet so but the road we’re on at the moment is really nice it’s really quiet um until we stopped just now and now is like that’s the most seen all day um and it’s like very undulating go like real steep hills um keep competing for Te in the mountain points and and then down this is really fun yeah 5es from SLO where we’ll have lunch probably oh nice and get money out got no Euro uro uro and the train leaves a for so we’re somewhat qu to 12 now we’ve done 50ks we got to do 90 I think so yeah 40 OD rough Quick Lunch back on the road yep we’ve also just made it to slunch and uh there’s a surprised surprising waterfall here that we’re checking out that we didn’t really know that we see today I saw some photos but uh Lauren hasn’t seen any we’re probably at the wrong side here cuz there’s another viewing Point way across there but it’s a bit far away but let’s have a look [Applause] so we got a view of the lower waterfalls but uh just behind me here you can go through I it takes heat of souvenir shops you have to buy ticket restaurant it’s like a reception and then it’s like a ticket yeah but this is our view look at those little things over there yeah like faires not bad this is what it looks like on my phone what which doesn’t really oh that’s down there ah don’t know how much dig it is I just read how much 6€ 6 you get to go to all these separate things inside this area lot of things but it’s very small it is very small but it’s pretty cool anyway quick Pi up for us better get going it’s going rain looks late yeah hungry too so lunch time [Music] [Applause] hi my name is Lauren and my chain is off again no but you can’t really say you can’t really say again because it’s only happened like three times I just got chased by a dog and it got really close to my leg chased by a dog I jump off really fast and really scared me I even went I never scream Oh no I got to L my shirt what about when we watching the Juro they put their chains on in like 4 seconds and here’s you I’m half on the big and half on the bottom oh no there we go you on think so oh so my fingers this has been I think the fourth time this has happened where she’s gone from the fourth in like8 weeks wow she’s fired up and aggressive and because it happened to you mate didn’t it m also Scott just almost broke his chain on the on the bridge back there in lunge should have heard the noise wouldn’t that wouldn’t hold up in court without evidence so this is evidence oh watch it Ki going a she’s good I’m just coming down this hill and as it came to the plateau something on the side was like we saw two wild BS the body’s huge I went running somewhere in there could get the GoPro out fast enough how funny was he snort [Applause] yeah a quick little pit stop of a beautiful waterfall down there inside the valley I’m going to get the Drone out but apparently there l a private property around not sure if that really means much but uh push off a little bit sun’s out too I thought you usually the private property thing fine but they had like all these like Barb wide fences that were really high and there was a lot of private property signs oh okay so this morning I was riding behind Scott and it was wet on the ground so I was getting like sprayed by the water so I was trying to stay kind of f a b and then something flicked up and I thought it was a rock but it never fell down on my like fell down my legs so I stopped and I looked and it was a dead snail and I flicked it off and now I’ve got all this gross stuff on me it was like a dead slug e just boarded the train just boarded the train and uh she said put your bikes in any compartment and now put them in the middle we thought there’d be a luggage compartment but they barely fit in here yeah they kind of advertised of taking bikes on these trains is okay and you paid two and that’s it and so we thought we’ get like a little area for your bike to either hold up straight or just put in somewhere to keep in place but there’s no way to go put yeah could put them in the door section but then no one can get on or off so it’s like I don’t know it’s about like this is the best there’s a wash closet on the left and that’s that’s actually it but at the FR carriages and down there the other carriages seem to be like first class kind of they a bit more fancy oh it seems a bit more non fancy if we’re close enough to the door then we can get off quickly I suppose even though they’d be very OD well we’re only really taking up eight seats right now yeah that’s not that bad oh boy no one no one’s seen anything I don’t know where the conductor guy is or whatever so know we’ll we booked two nights in raka by the way after we got our train tickets from aul to R and it started pissing down so it’s was kind of good decision but now it’s no it’s not too bad apparently it’s sunny in 2 hours and 15 minutes of [Music] weits oh good oh smoo say be sunny yeah so already time to head first time seeing the oce in uh 3 weeks we gone like backwards haven’t we we were so close to that bridge before like I do like heaps of circles back and forth around to get on the yeah to get down from the mountains we’re at like 800 M elevation so to get back down the sea level so slowly just going around back and forth good views at the moment what about the clouds so nice they not rain yeah jeez sun’s out might have to hit the town or not not you Bey we’re made it to our apartment in roer went out for one beer and did some shopping for breakfast in the morning this a cute little place on the fourth floor got our bikes in the back corner TV fridge small little kitchen entry and then the bathroom on the right first small very modern though uh Missing oil salt pepper the usual things that no one ever has and besides that it’s pretty cool um we’re in raka checking out the town on a Sunday where it’s quiet good start so far with some nice buildings wow it’s pretty cool isn’t it it’s a big one very wet today ground’s very wet but it has stopped raining apparently this building looks like d alley called la I think it does no green gos green gos sorry green Gods heading into the water now you see a big cruise ship there called the nor and Gem oo go check that one out and this supposed to be a really nice Beach CU it’s 3 days away but what do you do on rest days you get the most amount of steps in 30,000 today apparently I don’t know how 30,000 when it’s wet and rainy so many of these yellow buildings you think that’s like Hungarian looks a bit like it oh that’s messy it’s it’s the cruise one what have you what are you seeing well Catia has McDonald’s this whole time we haven’t had McDonald’s not like we usually eat McDonald’s at home but really wanted some chips then I Google it when we’re in Bosnia apparently they did something with like their franchise like they broke their franchise agreement or something to all the McDonald’s inv have to close is that why you sit in McDonald’s in front of you yeah what have you seen I’ve seen back hey I just saw something else open oh and it’s gelato gelato not the best morning for gelato gelato at 10:00 in the morning yeah this is the main street of Roa well the old town or whatever they call it I love the Mac in Europe are always in like the best [Music] building the oldest fanciest building ever the Mac is also has a 4.1 on Google which is like Massy for a fast food restaurant of that um size pretty weird oh there’s a big shopping center there go there Where Shopping Center interesting with in town it’s a nice nice strip very big black Square that’s not what do you see here big piles of Rock with something in the middle pouring out water what do you see wow that’s your artistic mind I don’t know maybe um the cogs of The Working Man yeah new country but Lauren still carrying the tradition out of eating B in every single place she goes 10:15 in the morning she’s got another one how is it is we’re going to have to stop the tradition because not as good here no it wasn’t a Bor shelf but it is to Bakery it seems doy here not as flaky um it was also more expensive it was €2 that’s a taste too spin yeah what was with that the ones we’ve been getting the last two days from this lovely lady at a bakery and they’re only three and it was meat and now hot and much stealing my food all the time follow oh there you go pigeons this is a bell tower I told you I’m very good at taking you places you want to know how I knew it was here how heard the bells ring Jo can you go up there you could I don’t want to just got reading face what am I trying to read concentration face hey is this where we are so you could go straight where I said to the water incorrect L wanted to go oh my goodness we were sitting late in here and got wanted to go over this way I said the water is in front of us and we’ve walked that way so yes I was right I’m again all right oh it’s Sunday the church is on people going for Sunday church I’d say so 11:00 MK let’s un interrupt them then so we just walked over this bridge and there was an American tour guide and she was saying something about some stairs that lead to a fortress and I think that I understood her instruction so we’re going to go try and get up to the Fortress she said that it’s in mini pilgrimage does that mean it’s far I don’t know 500 steps to the Fortress the 500 stairs stairs yeah she said this direction so let’s see if we can find it hope it doesn’t rain on our school started spinning on our way to the stairs now we’re deciding should we make our pilgrimage in the rain or should we go get ice cream aato or maybe just continue walking around the old town okay so my beach is 2 km away Beach delato filmage they’re all in different directions let way Pap Dr no no no no if I win then we go to the beach if you win we go to the pilgrimage and if it’s a drawer we go to gelato no no just pick which you want to paper SC is Rock oh it’s gelato off we go so it started raining so we hid under some cover and it just happened to be outside of another bar place so here’s Bar number two for the day this one’s meat and it’s like lay pastry and listen to our CR cheers that was a good crunch snaps it’s really [Music] pepper doesn’t even look like there’s any meat in it another coffee second for the day that one was €16 and better than the first coffee but uh the rain hasn’t stopped for like an hour so we’re heading back to the apartment to uh recoup and have some noodles and then I’m going to go back into town and get some more bees and okay after a short rain break what do they call it in the cricket rain delay rain delay after a quick rain delay quick meaning 3 hours um had some lunch rejuvenated and the sun is out let’s go discover some more of rea amaz the sun is out also Scott’s taking me to the place may or may not be a brewery oh what I said may or may not be a brewery it’s not like we ever go to breweries I said where are we going and he goes taking you somewhere don’t know who benefit is for sounds like I said may or may not be of my benefit it’s going to be surprising we’ll see usually if we go on Brewer wiy it’s a HCK so we’re only at 7,000 steps actually so we got a lot more to go yeah yes it’s me hello you’re stuck on the wrong side I how did she get over I don’t know follow me though because I’m taking her somewhere she doesn’t know where like I said before um I’m actually taking her to get some real ice cream more dor which happens to be next to the Brew Pub that I want to go through SS of winwin for both of us so uh follow me we’re now walking up the steps we me to do 3 and 4 hours ago before it started raining this is the way we have we just had to go to those places it’s VI the steps I didn’t choose to come this way just ended that way I knew it knew we were going to go to the castle what’s that I knew we were going to go to the castle M I am blowing up 50 steps in rotate the jacket off 5% of the way there then we rounded this corner that’s a whole lot of stairs a lot of stairs we love an adventure on a rest day we’re about 150 steps up now very yeah roughly it is so humid very warm haven’t even started and I’m sweating wow look at the view ready oh my goodness oh that’s F away oh that’s lovely so I think we’ve been walking for about 12 minutes that number 12 as you know we walking for 14 minutes almost at the top The View amazing like just to walk 12 minutes out of town and get this that’s really nice so we just got this beautiful view of the old town here just down there big cruise ship uh but the Oldtown looks really M rustic and and and kind of grungy from up here which is kind of the feel you get when you’re on sea level but bit different to your normal Old Town that’s been like restored and stuff the ship looks so big the ship’s massive and we’re going over that way tomorrow we think maybe over the mountain range over that big mountain the coastal towns we can see on the coast over there supposedly are really busy so we’re not going to ride that way just straight up over the Green Hills I think it’s only like 1,300 made this if that all right we’re almost at the [Music] [Music] top all right we’ve just found and the tresy castle say that again triski Castle say that three times for us trisi castley Castle I don’t know but it gives a great Overlook of the city I think it’s free to enter too which is quite odd and unusual I love the walls too imagine me popping you from up here where is Lauren come on Lauren [Music] it cost to enter so I am not going to risk [Music] it Cafe looks nice I don’t like walking into places where it’s got ticket price and then you have to get in well we’re Australians we like B AB biding by rules so no castle for us I think it was only like a year but we had the same view from five step way so there you go can’t go into a City without finding some kind of craft beer Kenny this is actually a really cool place though finally got a decent beer here go we S A New England IPO 420 400 mil equates to about seven bucks maybe yeah this actually cost the same as Lauren’s ice cream she just got pretty much pretty good price it’s a cool place and it even has a non-smoking room which I’m really happy with just on untapped at the moment ratings so bear with me he’s a happy champy welcome back welcome back 5:15 615 6:15 615 on the way to Burg finally heading in town to go a burger just had some 10 out of 10 pints actually pints minus 110 Ms the non-smoking room still SM like the smoke it was getting questionable very questionable very happy to be outside breathing some fresh air fruy I love fruy the beers are really nice and SC always finds way he get CRA e in doesn’t he just loves it where to walk 2.6 km hour 2.6 km out of our way to come to this place and like I said in my little intro that I had to con luren into thinking that we’re going to just [Music] gelato so when we’re in the old town before it was really busy and like even when it was raining there was like people everywhere and so we just realized they’re all from the cruise ship from up there we can’t like they can’t see the cruise ship anymore it’s gone and it’s so quiet the old tourists gone from the cruise and there’s four buses just on my left here massive buses and they’re gone now oh great but yeah it’s like way quier than it was before are you taking us uh king cafe PB and beer welcome to the King’s p sorry there we go [Music] so we’re actually walking down to the water at the moment because I can see a super and I want to know what it looks like wow love a good super Road have a look at this one might just walk myself on there maybe someone invite me we got the uh Lady Lady Len here and she is an absolute magnificent Beast we home yes we are didn’t find anything open 7:45 there were place is open but they were dead and I thought could not go there save the coin for a place that actually has a bit of vibe to it we have fun by ourselves don’t we we do got to walk
