So finally I meet up with Ian again after a 3 months absence, on this trip I get the train down to Stafford, where we head west to Telford then down to the river Severn and pick up the Severn valley rail trail, from here we then head north for the train home form Warrington. A very hot and sticky 3 days cycling enjoying the views and a few beers along the way.

[Music] This is the trans service to Central. [Music] Cheers. Thank you very much. Thank you. Hello. Usual spot there, mate. Good to see you. Yeah. Yeah. Good morning. Hello. And we’re back in Stafford again. We’ve had a a few trips that have start or ended here, but uh this has been nearly a 3 month break for myself. You’ll all know the old shoulders been giving us grief, but uh thankfully it’s a lot better and uh it’s the start of another trip. That’s good. And we’ve picked the right weather week, haven’t we? I mean, I left, as I say, Kala last morning and uh obviously rain overnight, but got to the lakes. It was chucking it, but it’s it’s it’s all right now. So, it’s red dot. I was going to say this is You want to come south? Oh, no. But, uh yeah, we’re heading sort of towards Iron Bridge. We’ve got a few off-road routes, haven’t we? Is it the green way? We’re going west first to Newport along the uh the greenway and then we’ll go directly south to through Telford to Iron Bridge. Yeah. And then for the following two days, we’ll just be heading straight north up to Warrington. We’re heading back our trains back to from Warrington on Wednesday. Well, late afternoon, it’s like 5:00. We put any pressure on ourselves, have we? Like, but you know, us, we’ll be stopping, taking the views in, and enjoying a few beers along the way. So, we’ll see you out there. See you later. Finding the railway. Yeah. Over the railway bridge. Yes. Still standing strong. Thank you. Cheers. [Music] Just stopped at Nosul Morrison’s for some supplies. [Music] [Music] Right, we’ve just arrived in Newport. The last in. The last in. That might be that might be just what we’re looking for. Yeah, but it’s slightly um a tad early for opening time. It’s what is it? Quite past 20 11 or something. It is past 11. But as the crow flies 1.2 mile, but we’re doing a dog leg. Go. Right, we just stopped at Barley in Newport. Ian’s gone for the uh the beers. Oh yes, just what the doctor ordered. Zumbar. No. Oh, in the glass. In the glass of Zumbar. Uh, tribute Cornish pale ale. Oh, and nice and cheap. Could be doubling up. Yeah. Oh, thanks channel. Yes. Yeah. So, we just like to thank there was three supporters on the coffee. Yeah. Um on our last on the end of our last trip, but obviously with me not being out on trips, so this is the first chance. So, thank you very much. Much appreciated. Thank you, guys. M Oh, yes. Hits the spot. That’s a good one. [Music] Yes. [Music] [Music] Okay. [Music] Heat. [Music] Take a while. All right. We’ve stopped at the Thomas Botfield in Telford um for a paint and a little snack. Yeah, that’s what it’s all about. Right back on the road. We’ve had a point. Going to try and find our route. Which way is it? He hasn’t got one. Where’s your cap? Guys, okay, we take a left here heading towards Coalport and Iron Bridge. So, what are you thinking of it so far? Wonderful. It’s a nice route, isn’t it? Considering we’ve been off the canals. Yep. We’ve got virtually to the south end of Telford from Stafford. hardly touched the road. And now we’re on this lovely old railway line. [Music] [Music] Okay. [Applause] [Music] Right, we’ve stopped at the All Nations Inn for a well- earned beer. We just have to come up this big hill right around and into here. But uh very nice, lovely place. Love it. Bit of character. Heading north then eventually Warington. Smell of sewers there. Bit of off-roading fallen tree. What the? It’s getting a bit narrow. [Music] [Music] We are on the coal port bridge above the river 7. And the wood bridge in looks very inviting. Right, we’ve stopped at the wood bridge in just off of a coort bridge for a well earned pint. Yeah, it’s a very warm afternoon. So, yeah, got to keep rehydrating. Got to keep rehydrating. But we’re going to head up the hill and then get some tea. We’re heading to a village top of the the bank called Brosley. Yeah. Get our get some tea up there anyhow. And then we’re heading south along following the river NCN45 along the top of the bank. And then we’ll basically look come back along this river. But we’re looking for somewhere to camp along the uh seven the old Seven Valley Railway, which is now the Seven Valley Rail Trail. So I’m sure we’ll find something. We usually do. Yeah, there’s the old station at Coport. Right, that was a big pull out of Coport Bridge after that point, but uh we’re leveling out now. So, we’re humming in on somewhere to get some food for tonight before eventually finding somewhere to camp. You know us, we like a good pizza. Yep. Pizza O’ Ian’s got the same lovely bit of pizza. Oh yes, dinner time. Nice. Why not? What not? We’ve had an accident with a cider can. We come bombing bombing down that hill. It’s as rough as watch. It’s at the bottom. Exploded. Dave’s busted a cider can. That one’s all right. Decanted it. It’s not all right. It’s Oh, we’re having we’re having two drinks here in this layby. Oh god. So, yeah, I’ve got to drink it out the old bag. Yeah. Right, we’ve just come off paste. There’s a little woods here. We’re going to have a look here. See what it’s like. See what the lay of the land is. Right, we think we found tonight’s camp spot within this little wooded area. Yeah, clearly somebody has been here many moons ago, but there’s an old remains of a tent there. Yeah. But this is a flat bit and it drops off down to the river 7 just over there. So, we’re trying to keep slightly up a bit. Yeah. But we’re next to the field. We did see a car on our way in. It’s like obviously a footpath that runs through. So, we’ll wait till they disappear before we decide to uh we’ll get sniff. Yeah. So, we’ll just we’re just going to sit and chill and have a beer or two. Just have a bit of crack and beer. Whatever. But uh not the crack that you’re thinking of. [Music] Right. There’s not going to be much of a sunset, I don’t think. Very dry, isn’t it? What a beautiful place, isn’t it? Lovely. The hair bales in the field next to us. I love seeing that harvest. It’s a good one. But it has gone very hazy. But yeah, that’s what’s going to be of the sunset tonight. Turn out a lovely evening. We’re just getting camp set up. Right, that’s us all set up. I’m just in the tarp and bivvie configuration as is Ian. He’s just over there over with his tarp and bivvie. It’s the last light of the day, but we’re in this forest area just along the edge. A bit of look down this side, but there’s lots of like bird feeders, like game game feeders. So, we decided to avoid those, but yeah, freshly cut field ready to be collecting. Lovely harvest field, isn’t it? M. But, uh, it is so warm. It’s still about 25°. It’s just It would be nice if there was a little breeze, but yeah, we’re always fussy, aren’t we? Right, we’ve just come down the woods towards the river 7 and we’ve come across this humongous chicken of the woods. We think it is. Anyhow, that is a beauty. Right, we just been down to the uh River 7 and thankfully we didn’t camp down there because it’s it’s flies, midgetes, and whatever every flying thing you could think of. But we’ve just wandered back up to our camp and the rain’s come on. It has. It’s not bad. It’s very light in it. You know, I I was putting my top up thinking, “Oh, do I really need this?” The thing is, though, if you hear the pitter patters at three, we’ve made the right choice. The thing is, they’re up now. We can duck under them and you know and we ain’t got to worry about it. Stopped, hasn’t it? It has. But if it comes again at 3:00 a.m., we’ll be like, “Well, I don’t care.” Just like we’re sorted. Okay, we’re going to call it a night. Yes, it’s uh getting late4 to 11. So, we’ve had a long day on the bikes. Couple of beers to finish the night off, but uh we will see you all in the morning. Yep. See you tomorrow. Carry on along the river 7. River 7. Look for somewhere for coffee. Yeah. See you tomorrow.

  1. Good to see another of your adventures, Dave! The other Dave who cycles with Ian, doesn't like me very much. Said my last comment was stupid! Even though I was warning him of putting hot food and drinks in plastic containers. Potentially carcinogenic?

  2. One of my pet hates is cyclists that stop in the middle of the path, not moving and not considering anyone else who might be walking/cycling on it. Those coppers did a great job of exactly what I mean, well done guys 👏.

On a more positive note, nice to see you both back out, nice to have a bit weather too 👌 enjoy lads.

  3. Nice one Dave and Ian! Really nice start too with the route and the weather. Close call nearly losing 1 (or 2?) ciders. Surprised you found any level ground to pitch on after chugging those. lol Looking forward to day 2. ATB

  4. Nice to see you both back on another adventure 😊, looking forward to the next video! Btw, the young cyclists you passed tapping their heads were warning you about the police further on. It's one of many biker signals.

  5. Last week I got the train to Carlisle and then walked Hadrian's wall from bowness on solway to Wallsend and then finished off in Tynemouth.
Have you walked that? I loved it. Did it over 7 days and finished Sunday last week. Great video.

  6. Many thanks for your videos Dave. Bought myself a gravel bike after a knee injury has stopped my running. Had it a week and done 100k already in between work. Rode the Lancaster coastal path after watching you did part of that. Planning some overnight bike packing trips with the wife. Thank you and thanks to Ian 👍👍👍

  7. Brilliant to see you two back out again, perfect weather for it as well. Just about got my bike sorted and ready for getting back out and enjoying the ride myself once again after a long break. Keep up the great work gents 🍻
