Hey folks,

I’m deciding between two bikes within my ~$6k budget:

• Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 8 — Ultegra Di2, DT Swiss ARC 1400 55

• Cervélo Soloist — SRAM Force AXS, Reserve 49/42 wheelset

I know some will say the Aeroad should be compared to the S5, but given the budget, these are my real options.

The backstory:
I was lucky enough to try the Aeroad for about 120 miles and loved it — no slowdown on 5–8% slopes during 3,000 ft climbs. I’m a previous Canyon Ultimate rider and it felt great. But then the DT Swiss recall happened, and since I was still in the 30-day return window, I sent it back.

Unfortunately, the Aeroad is now unavailable online. That’s when I started looking around. My LBS is offering $1k off the Soloist, which puts it right in my budget.

My background:
• Regularly bike, run, and swim — generally fit.

• Comfortable with bike maintenance and upgrades; I’ve assembled 4 Canyons myself with no issues.

• First Canyon was an Ultimate CF SLX 8, which was stolen — hence the new search.

• Never owned SRAM — always Shimano (MTB, GRX, Tiagra, Ultegra mechanical).

My main question:
How big is the real-world performance gap between the wheels and drivetrains on these two setups?

Specs:

Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 8:
• Wheels: DT Swiss ARC 1400 55

• Groupset: Shimano Ultegra Di2 FD-R8150 (latest version)

Cervélo Soloist:
• Wheels: Reserve 49 (rear, 24.5mm IW) + Reserve 42 (front, 25.5mm IW)

• Hubs: Zipp 176/76, 12x142mm, XDR freehub, 24H, centerlock, tubeless compatible

• Groupset: SRAM Force AXS (not the newest version released last month)

Would love to hear from people who’ve ridden either (or both) and can speak to ride feel, component quality, and upgrade potential.
