I’m testing out a budget folding eBike called a Hitway BK35. I want to see how far it would take me so I planned to visit my friend and Maya the pug on the other side of London.
I saw some classic London sights along the way including Buckingham Palace, Big Ben the London Eye and the Shard.
If you would like to see Maya again, you can watch a video I made about my trip with her to a loch in Scotland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qkf7pp7R9RQ

The bike was given to me by Hitway so that I could test and review it.
hello and welcome back to my channel Darren’s Adventure Chronicles I think that’s the name I’m going to go with so sticking to the folding bike theme today I’m testing out an ebike it’s the hitway BK 35 which was sent to me by the company that makes it um apparently it’s got a range of 25 to 60 km depending on the weather and heels and what uh assistance of power you use so um today I want to go and see my friend mayor the Pug who’s featured on my channel before um and Herona who is my friend as well um and it’s on the other side of London I live in West London it’s on the opposite end in East London um it’s about 25 km away um the uh Direction say it’s going to take about an hour and a half to cycle there so I’m going to see if this bike can get me all the way there so let’s see how it goes [Music] oh it’s chilly – 3° I [Music] believe so we’ve got a little screen here that tells your speed oops and your level of assistance I’m currently on level two and I’m on 7 mph the Max is 15 mph which is in line with the UK law and I’ve got a full battery at the [Music] moment andoo got a long way to go [Music] it’s freezing today but it’s a beautiful beautiful day and it’s a bit hazy so it’s created this beautiful mysterious atmosphere here down down by the temps I’m sitting comfortably so far it took a while to adjust the seat and the um handle bars to something that I thought okay this might work for me bike apparently weighs 17 kg it’s not too bad carrying it up a few stairs for me so I’m riding on assistance number one at the moment let’s go to number two doesn’t feel that different number two okay here we go some on number two I’m going to try number three who okay it’s an immediate boost whoa [Music] yeah that is fast so I actually just gave myself a little boost through High Street Kensington going on level three and it got me through there nice and quickly um and now I’m I’ve arrived in hide Park but when I was in three the battery level went down to two out of four so I was like oh is the battery if I used half the battery already and I haven’t even gone um that far um I put the um assistance level down to two now and the battery level’s gone back up so it is a bit confusing with the battery level that you think you’ve got half the battery left but actually it’s you’re on the highest level of assistance this is just not that clear but um I’m sort of starting to figure out how it works so uh yeah the other thing is when I was going with full assistance really fast it’s really fast down um I got cold cuz I basically didn’t have to pedal or do anything I’m just sitting on the bike in the middle the mid I’m going to say low medium high for assistance and battery will be 1 2 3 4 it’ll make more sense so in medium um you have to do a bit of pedaling it’s not actually that much but you know at least it will keep me warm on this chilly chilly day uh otherwise I’m just enjoying the cycle actually it’s nice I like coming through hide Park there’s so many people out and about um I know it’s a Sunday I’m surprised on the day when it’s like – 4 everybody’s out and about running cycling and walking but I guess it’s a nice day so why wouldn’t you come on let’s go go [Music] go give myself a little boost up here I should be trying to save the battery but hey ho [Music] [Music] [Music] it’s busy busy busy busy stop take a look coold busy I’ve just seen all the SES today Howes the pament in Big [Music] Ben isn’t that lovely look at all these people curing for a picture with the phone box I love that just take things like that for granted when you live in a city like London [Music] I’ve got the lon eye [Music] [Music] now [Music] yeah sh I just stopped cuz the seat’s gone down again which is really annoying just rides down even though it’s really [Applause] tight just means that I end up cycling with my knees in my face so I figured out I’m 15 minutes away which is great um because I’m getting cold um it’s been all right apart from the seat riding down over time um everything else is fine I’ve still got more than half of the battery apparently although I’m not 100% sure cuz it keeps changing um I’ve been on the medium level of assistance pretty much all the way and every now and then I give myself a little boost if there’s like a long stretch of road or cycle way or I want to overtake a bus or whatever um so that’s been cool looking forward to getting there getting a nice hot cup of coffee and um catching up with my friend and mayor of course so uh yeah see if I can keep up with the line bike come [Music] on oh no not [Music] quiet yeah there we go I thought line bikes were also set to 15 [Music] oh got to stop [Music] here come [Music] on oh damn it because I was trying to keep up with the line bike I’ve now gone the wrong way so where do I go where am I let go left left then w [Music] [Music] right so let’s take a look at the specs of this budget friendly ebike the bike is made from aluminum and priced at around £450 for that price you get a fully powered foldable ebike that’s really convenient for storage or transport it weighs around 17 kg with the battery so it’s not the lightest on the market but I found it manageable it comes with a single speeed drivetrain so no years it has 16-in wheels and they’re nice and thick so I found it quite comfortable across different terrains from city streets to light off-road paths it’s got disc brakes and I didn’t experience any issues with them they seem pretty solid overall I think this could be a great little ebike for short local trips whether it’s visiting friends exploring the city or just getting around its foldable design makes it easy to store so could also be a handy companion for car camping trips plus with the thick tires it’s fun cycling on gentle Forest tracks or Trails however there are a couple of things that I wish it had a front or rear rack for carrying luggage would be a nice addition and I think the battery level indicator could be more accurate while I know ebike range can vary based on a lot of factors a more precise indicator would help a lot in managing that one issue I did have was with the seat post it kept sliding down while riding I’m not sure if this was a setup issue on my side but if anyone has a solution feel free to drop it in the comments so I’m just about there now I’ve made it I still have a bit of battery left again not sure how much but it’s showing two bars um so that’s pretty good I think so that’s 25 km I think that distance was just try now to get across a very busy road and I’m through and now it’s time to hopefully get warm and get a warm cup of coffee please [Music] [Music] that’s Maya [Music] hello oh my God it’s so warm in here God where are you [Music] hello hey hello man where are you I’m [Music] here are you so [Music] excited what are you doing what are you doing come here come here where are you oh yes oh yes oh yes

Nice bike but can you attach bags? London is great to cycle in as so flat compared to Bristol.
Stick to your Brommie!
Like you Darin I love my Brommie but it’s always interesting to look at other bikes. That little e-bike looks like it is just the job for getting about town, not a bad price and a lot cheaper than getting taxis. Lovely to see Maya again – she was obviously delighted to see you – must be she remembers you as the guy that took her on that amazing Scottish adventure!
China junk.
Curious, how long would it take you to do the same distance on your Brompton? Range anxiety is always a concern on an ebike; especially once you start to load it down with a rack, panniers and camping gears. These things cut down the distance drastically, even when kept in level one for assistance.
Such a wonderful tour 😊😊😊
Hi Darin, another interesting video which makes more sense following a recent visit to London where I could recognise the locations.
I have an electric Brompton which is absolutely fabulous and I'd love to take it to London sometime in the future. It provides much better range performance and accelerates very quickly even in setting 1 of 3 although I've never needed 3.
Was that a nav aid on your handlebar? I currently use my phone but thinking that an independent nav aid to my phone might be better? Any thoughts.
Aww Maya’s zoomies at the end
Awful bike but the music is so bad – I think u should think about something a bit more melodic 😊
Maya has requested another appearance on your channel
I enjoyed your video! One thing I noticed is that with a few small changes in your video description and tags, you could reach an even wider audience. It's just a small SEO tweak that could make a big difference. I'd be happy to share some tips if you're interested!
There are soooo many nicer folding e-bikes out there that are sold by shops that will take care of them for you. You should maybe try this on a nice bike and show the differences.
Really enjoyed this! Felt like I was right there cruising through London with you such a cool way to see the city. By the way, I had a quick creative idea regarding your thumbnails that might help highlight the tone better. Would love to share are you open to connecting on Instagram or elsewhere?
the music you pick for your adventures matches what your doing so well,
If you still have the bike, is it possible to buy the battery off you
