Throwback to Tour de France 1994 when Miguel Indurain overtook Lance Armstrong during the Stage 9 individual time trial.
Transferred from a VHS recording of the 1995 Tour de France stage rest day coverage on ESPN. The recording was made on July 10, 1995.
Well, indign has looked very strong since the start of this tour to France and it’s going to be very strange for Lance Armstrong, the current world champion and he’s about to get caught by Indrain. You can see Indrain will just fly by him. Well, I know that Lance Armstrong expected to catch him and who wouldn’t but I don’t think he expected him to bridge a gap of 2 minutes in just about 16 km which is 10 miles. I completely died in the end. I mean, I’m I was going I started 100%. And I was going as hard as I could in the beginning. Uh, and then he caught me and then I tried to match his speed. I didn’t expect him to catch me so soon. I I I knew that he would catch me, but I didn’t think he’d catch me in the first 10 miles. I wasn’t devastated because, like I said, I knew that he was going to catch me. I was very impressed. I knew that he was having a good day.
