[Music] if you do come to a stop on a steep climb it can be an absolute nightmare to get going again and if it does happen to you I’d say it is possible to get your speed back up and get riding again put your bike to the side somewhat so it lessens the gradient use your dominant foot to clip in and you want a really big powerful stroke to get yourself going on that dominant foot your left foot in my case would then get onto the pill try and keep the pillows going before you clip in don’t try and clip in straight away if you can clip in on the second pedal Revolution just like this so keeping it going and then clip in and you’re off

flatpedals for the win
I wouldnt know of any other way.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This works.
I ride downhill for about ten yards then, with the speed from that, I cut a sharp U-turn leaning into the curve and with the centrifugal force I ride out of the saddle a few strokes to get me back up to speed going back up. Works for me!
Since that sandy loose MTB climb, now I'm not afraid of backwheel spinning in place or lifted front wheel
no problem wearing flats 😎
Don't do this in a place with traffic
Happened to me on a wet busy narrow steep road, had to walk to the top with my worn out spd's 😅
I always walk the bike specially with clipless. Sometimes the slope is so steep and you need to pedal so hard, the clip go into the pedal no matter what you do
get some speedplays😂
Just ride downhill a bit and turn round if the road is wide enough over course, simples!
or just downshift
I wish i had this advice earlier
I learnedcthis the hard way
I just do a quick loop round.
Go with flats – problem solved
Dropper post, install a dropper post trust me. 😂
I guess it's all a matter of perspective – I never thought going uphill on tarmac would be hard. But then again I don't deal with traffic or clipless pedals. I usually redo an entire tech uphill section on my EMTB if the ground is loose or muddy. Once the momentum is gone, there is absolutely no way to get traction.
Not if you are smart enough to turn around and ride downhill for a few metres while you clip in, then urn uphill again. You can just also ride directly across the hill, zero gradient there lad.
Just go downhill 10 metres and then turn around and cycle uphill again
I clip both shoes into the pedals, start cycling and then put the shoes on as I’m going up the hill. Works every time 👍
Crap foot could slip whilst you’re not clipped in you do a 90° pedal/with your dominant foot what are your clipped in?
I once stopped on an 18% grade. Did everything just as Connor described, but when I pushed down, the front wheel came up and over and I landed on my back with the bike between my legs. I guess I pushed a little too hard.
In my case (as an out of shape amateur ), I seem to stop every 10 pedals on the uphill, so I will try all techniques.
Like who gives a s#@t
In some situations you can steady yourself against a wall or fence to clip in on both sides before setting off. Set off with vigour though or you'll come a cropper!
you can of course kick yourself forward with your left foot which should be step 1
Can't you just twist the throttle?
What if their is cars passing? You can't ride across the road?
It is an absolute nightmare when you are forced to overcome inertia to make your bike move. I was completely stumped when this happened to me, but your solution, applying force to the pedals, is absolutely brilliant. You are a scholar, sir.
Yea, I just fell twice going uphill 😂
