Looking for a commuter bike which I can generally just ride around my city. My commute is around 6km each way. I plan to get my current bike serviced and keep it for longer rides/fun races before upgrading.

I’ve seen two bikes for a similar price which have caught my eye. I am wondering though which is better, more reliable and appealing to you.

Whilst they are going to be commuters, it would be ideal if they could handle a longer recreational ride the odd time as well, if my current bike is getting fixed etc.

I’ve attached photos of them both. There are more for the Specialized.

Firstly, Specialized Allez A1 (2002?) – £90. There is room to haggle here so maybe £60-£80.
The seller says the frame is in excellent condition. It’s been unused for a few years but stored in a shed. The size is at the smaller end for me but I think it would be fine for what I need it for.
Here’s some of the specs and add ons listed in the ad:
– 2x 8 speed Shimano Tiagra Gears (16 speed)
– Shimano Flight Deck gear shifters
– Shimano Flight Deck SC6501 Module
– Look click in Pedals (plus have the original Bike pedals)

Secondly, Vitus Razor VR (2015?) – £120. Again, with haggling I might save £20.
The seller knows nothing about the bike, not even the size. From the pictures it looks in good condition.
It is also a bit of a drive to go and view this one, so I’d need to be sure it’s worth going to look at.

Are these bikes worth it as a commuter with potentially a bit more? Should I go cheaper, more expensive, newer, older?
