Welcome everybody. Welcome back to another video on what is a very very gray August day. Thought I’d uh take a little ride out on the bike today. Haven’t been out on it for a while and I thought I’d come to a different part of town. I um if you don’t recognize it, if you’re not from the area, this is Wallace down and I wanted to show you a couple of bits and one of those things is the new cycle lanes up here. Little bit controversial, I suppose. A lot of people say that they don’t use them and most of the time there’s no one on them. I suppose they only really get used when people are commuting. Anyway, this is a very busy part of town. It’s like a main road. You can get through to pool from here. So, let’s just cross over. So, as you can see, the traffic is starting to pile up. It’s getting busier and busier. All right, so this is some of the new cycle lane that has been put in in Bournemouth. There’s been a few of them. And this one was finished recently. I think this part I’m on now was last year. And the bit I’m about to go on was earlier this year in the red. Now, what do you think of these cycle lanes, guys? Bournemouth is big on cycling. It’s almost like they prefer the cyclists over the motorists. I don’t know. Now, when I first came to Bournemouth many, many, many, many years ago, I always said, “I’m going to have a run in with a cyclist.” There’s a lot of cyclists. And I did. It wasn’t my fault. Some cyclist banging on top of my roof, and he was trying to get through on the double yellow lines, which was probably in a width that was less than my hips. Okay. So, yeah, you got to have your eyes eyes open. So, let me know what you think. But this goes all the way up here. This bit looks a little unfinished. In fact, I think I’m not sure if I’m on the wrong bit cuz it’s not been marked up. I’m going to say that this is for pedestrians and this bit here is for the cyclists. Now, if you come up here, there little bit of residential bits and bobs. And then coming up, there’s like a new go-kart track, which I’ve not been to yet, but I’ll show you that in a second. Where is the cycle path now? Is it this or is it the bit I’m on now? So, on the right or here, it’s probably that, but it don’t look very good, does it? So, anyone I speak to about these cycle lanes, everyone says it’s a waste of money. And I was following someone on Instagram. I can’t remember his name. Make sure there’s no one behind me. I can’t remember his name. And he was basically saying, “Why don’t they make a cycle lane down the seafront?” Because at this time of year during August, you cannot cycle. I think it’s till after 6:00 p.m. Now, I’m going to turn around a second, guys, because the go-kart track is just up the road here. So, bear with me. And it’s just starting to rain as well. Hopefully, it holds off. Right, here we go. This is us. Thank you. Okay, it’s just starting to rain a little bit. I may need to wipe the lens in a second. So, yeah, you can’t cycle down the seafront in the summer. And where do people want to cycle in the summer? They want to cycle down the seafront, isn’t it? So, maybe just a bit of paint down there. It’s wide enough to have some cyclists and then a bit for the pedestrians. I know people, you’re probably going to say some people cycle very fast and that is true. Okay, just changing the subject for a second. This is the go-karting track. It’s actually very expensive. I think I looked it was like £40 for like 15 minutes. So these cycle lanes have been causing a little bit of carnage up this end of town because it’s such a busy main road. Lots of people commute to work on this road pretty much. So this road, not this one here, but the one that’s just over there will take you all the way through to Bournemouth. And if you follow this one, this will take you into pool. So I’m going to show you the latest bit of cycle lane. if you’re into some cycle lane stuff. Okay. Right. I am going to go on the pavement here just because it’s a bit dangerous and that’s my other thing. There’s some bad drivers about these days. Not everyone. Right. Here we go. So, this is the latest bit. And I’ll tell you now, this just putting this in caused so many problems. So, they’ve made this wider. That bit over there, I think, is a bit skinnier now. And the cycle lane is only on this side. I had an idea of bringing some wild flower seeds and putting them down the middle there just to brighten the place up cuz it’s so gray. It’s like anywhere in the UK, anywhere that’s built up is really flipping gray. So, and then it goes round here. This is a nice new bit. And when the wind isn’t against you and you’re coming back the other way, which I’m going to do in a minute, you can proper race around this bit. Although the bike I’m riding is very limited on the speed. It’s electric up to 15 miles an hour. Then I’ve got to really work hard. Right, let’s turn around here. So, the next bit I want to show you is up the top of the uh top road there. Look at this. You can probably get your speed on around here. Doesn’t look like much, but I’m honestly I’m going 15 12 mph here. I’m flying. All right. So, I’m on the Ringwood Road now, the A3049. And if you’ve been reading the news, there’s a famous speed camera up here which has caught, I believe, and I’ll put the correct number on the screen, 11,000 drivers in the last 12 months. Prior to that, it had caught, I think it was 60 and 50 the year before. So, they changed it from 40 down to 30. And here is the culprit. I’ll pull over. Let’s stick me arm out. Let them all know. So, this is the camera. If we’re lucky, we might even see it go off 11,000 times, I think it was. That is really, really crazy. So, if you’re up on this road opposite wicks there, be really careful. Right. One other interesting little fact up here that someone told me about, but I’ve got to ride down there and it’s all the way down there by the Bear Cross roundabout. And talking of speed cameras, yeah, look, it’s not often you can almost beat the cars. Hold on. No, he’s gone. Talking of speed cameras, they’re just down here. The speed camera van sits and waits. Apparently, there was someone they caught someone doing 100 mph on this road in a 40. That’s crazy. I’d be too scared to go that fast. Well, this is quite nice down there. Shame about all the cars and all the pollution. I just put my hand on the side up on the top there just by the speed camera and it’s just filthy pollution. It’s black pollution. So, what I want to show you and what maybe you can help me out. So, someone told me that on this corner right here. So, this thing here is apparently, let me show you, something to do with the old trams or the old trolley buses. You can just see on the front there. Don’t know what it says. Can make that out. Let me know guys if you know what that is. It’s on the roundabout by Bear Cross. There’s the pub. There’s the roundabout. There’s a quick fit. Let me know if you know what that is. So, that’s it for this video, guys. I hope you enjoyed that. Just wanted to do a quick cycling tour to show you the cycling lanes, the notorious speed camera, and that little green box. So, don’t forget to let me know your thoughts on all of that or one particular thing, but let me know and I’ll talk to you all in the comments. Take care.

It's very rare to see a cyclist in Bournemouth using the cycle lanes.
So YOU are the one using the cycle lanes!
"A bit of paint" along the prom for cyclists won't work. Children won't understand it and there will be accidents.
Very surprised to see you on my road lmao.
The cycle lanes where you went are very annoying. A lot of beautiful nature was removed to build it, but cyclists STILL use the road. I think you're one of 10 I've seen actually use it haha.
A lot of us put out "protection" papers on our tree's to prevent the council from removing them, preventing them from doing the cycle lane on the corner towards the end of wallisdown road.
2:30 yes, the inner lane is the cycle path. It's not labelled at all, very uneven, and very clearly, unfinished.
Thanks for showing the area at least :), It's seriously a shame that this cycle lane is here, because its unusable, hence why people still cycle on the road.
Again, thanks for showing the area, very weird seeing the roads I'm on every day through a camera of another person haha.
I just wish cyclists showed better care for both themselves and drivers.
Pedestrian path and cycle path need to be clearly marked.By all accounts, Bournemouth is now ruined. Not safe .
You want to see mad cycle lanes? Head between Cemetery Junction and Richmond Hill. The roundabout just before the Wessex Way is so dangerous!
Even the council admit they are not uded. It should be the law that you usr them.
its not that bcp prefers cyclists to motorists. there are 800miles of roads in bcp only 10 miles of proper ltn 1/20 compliant cycle lane in bcp… its just about redressing the balance.
the bit from scott road is unfinished. its waiting for ringwood road to get finished.
You can cycle between the piers on the seafront
the section of road with the camera was dropped to 30mph because there had been 3 deaths, also added an extra pedestrian crossing.
There's also a great new bit of shared path that runs from turbary park avenue to wallisdown road between the industrial estate and turbary park
<From Bournemouth – Cycle every day 20 miles for my commute. Cycle lanes around Bournemouth are a joke. Most don't even cover the full distance of a road – Wallisdown road a perfect example – half witted job done to spend Tax payers money. BCP council spending GOV grants to put into pockets of their friends doing a half arsed job. Typical example of unaccountable councils/Politicians serving themselves and not the public.
The new cycle lanes are great. I mostly drive. I would like to cycle more. Unfortunately, plenty of roads are not safe to cycle on around Bournemouth due to the poor standard of drivers. These cycle lanes make it much safer to cycle. The cycle lanes are being completed in random bits rather than focusing on completing a whole proposed route.
The planned cycle network details can be found on this link and then clicking on the 'read the plan' link.

It's decent network that is planned and will give those that want to cycle, a safer route to cycle. Anything that helps get people out of cars locally on our congested road, will benefit all road users in the end.
To have a cycle lane on the front would just cause a safety issue with pedestrians. Children run around adults not looking where they are walking.
You mention Bournemouth all the time. Do you know that the houses and shops on the left are in Poole so you are on the border of Bournemouth and Poole. Don't forget BCP is 3 towns
there was a council leader, now mp, who owns a chain of cycle shops.
Those cycle lanes are woefully inadequate. Next to high speed traffic with zero protection. Classic gov doing performance rather than doing it properly.
2:20 That section is to be completed with full segregation of cycle lanes from September to December this year. ✌️
Nice to see they’ve installed a cycle path down Wallisdown Road. Many years ago I commuted down that road daily on a bike and it was horrible. The lumps and bumps and potholes by the gutters were bad enough but the proximity to vehicles was pretty scary
a great video. i wish i could cycle safely still. i'm in Paignton, and it's hell for cyclists here. narrow roads, cars parked everywhere and cycle lanes are very scarce ! we can't even walk along the footpaths for parked cars! i see quite a few cyclists about. the brave ones.
love the camera views as you cycle along, thanks. 👍🚲
the good old days are over 😢 long gone are the days when we had proper roads without stupid speed limits! roads use to be 40mph but yet councils waste millions on unused cycling lanes that only 2 percent of people use😅 bcp council are bankrupt times are rubbish, should never if merged the councils together
Superb stuff mate. When I used to drive around Bournemouth/Poole/Christchurch area, the cyclists used to drive me insane. I'm glad they are at least trying these days. Best wishes Ty 🙏😊
Incredibly poor signage which could cause altercation between cyclists and pedestrians. I rode the prom from Poole to Southbourne last month and the number of dogs running loose was insane. It's not the speed camera on the Rignwood Road that's the culprit it's the drivers that are speeding. If people would drive, walk or ride with consideration for each other all these "problems" would cease to exist.
Once along time ago I got pulled over by police in Wallisdown for being drunk in charge of a bicycle not good 😮 was told to let down my tires or get taken in so I deflated them and walked 100 yards to the BP on the corner to pump them back up and on my way again…..the good old days 😅😅😅 I'm much more sensible nowadays ❤
Needs physical separation from the traffic and better marking.
Just watched your video and one of the places you where riding through I use to go to Y.T.S many moons ago how much its changed .
The lanes up there are amazing! The hate everyone seems to give them is so unjustified lol
The cycle lane you're on at 1:00 is in Poole. Bournemouth is on the other side of the road.
Wallisdown Road is the boundary between the two – BH11 (Bournemouth) and BH12 (Poole).
Having just 10 miles of cycle path does NOT justify of spending millions to build something. So let’s look at the finished paths that were ridden. 0:35 Was that LTN1/20 compliant? A cycle lane/foot pay with shops, housing and parking to the left and a road to the right? That was a footpath with a cycle lane image painted in the surface. This was repeated at 0:58. Here the path was strewn with road furniture and vertical surfaces. I’m assuming the path at 1:25 is unfinished. Why the black bollard at 1:29? Is this. A target for a dark, rainy night? At 1:35 the bidirectional cycle way expects cyclists to travel against opposing traffic with just a kerb between them – one mistake away from an unpleasant outcome. The Kamikaze lane? At 2:44 you have placed traffic lights in the cycle path? The reason they should not be placed here is the same you don’t place them in the middle of a road. How will the cycleways, especially the one at 5:55 get swept? Do you have a cleaning programme? Very few of the pathways seen here will make cycling a safer, more viable form of transport. I’ll stick to the roads thank you.
I fear for pedestrians on some of the narrow pavements we see here.
lol cycle lanes…..apparently our roads – too dangerous for cycle lanes. Try B3058 through Bashley, one of main routes to New Forest. Do try B3055 especially past Sammy Miller motor cycle museum 🤣 to be fair NARROW indeed, but the state is…..challenging very lol
No wonder that speed camera catches a lot of drivers. I’ve never come across a 30 mph dual carriage way before.
