I’d been looking to build a sturdy commuter/grocery-getter from a steel touring frame with cantilever brakes, dropout eyelets, and enough clearance for some wider tires and fenders. Lo, I spotted and picked up this ‘88 (year of the dragon 🐉) Miyata 618 Grand Touring with all original components — nothing fancy, but they all work great, and the OvalTech triple crank is interesting. Splined triple-butted tubes, forty-spoke rear hub, braze-on rack mounts, and bar end shifters are bonuses. I cleaned, tuned, and regreased everything, stuck a milk crate on the rack, and hit the road. Rides like a dream, and as an 80’s kid the decals just make me smile. Fenders and wider tires coming soon. Go Blue! 💙〽️
